YOUR IMPRESSIONS OF ZELDA: MAJORA'S MASK

Having completed Majora's Mask, it's now the time for you to decide how you felt about this game. Did it live up to the standard of the previous Zelda? Did you like the ending? What could you have done to make this game an even better experience? What effects does this have if any on the possible future of Zelda, and Zelda on the Nintendo GameCube? These are just a few things to think about when writing a reply.

Erin Explains: Great game if held independant from Ocarina of Time the problem with mm is that we all want to compare it to Ocarina of Time. Ocarina of Time was great...an epic if you will. Majora's Mask was just meant to be a small side story and if held up only by itself...not comparing it to any other zelda game i think it's great. it does bother me a lot that it's not a zelda game if you're a zelda fan. the only thing that allows them to put the name on it is the fact that link is the central character and through his memory zelda teaches him the song of time. termina is not even close to fitting in with the zelda genre. what the hell is up with those blobs in the fields?! like that completely misrepresents a zelda game go me, that and among other things the ALIENS (?!)invading romani ranch in search of...milk?! i'm sorry, but a lot of the attraction to the zelda games for me is the celtic/medieval/pagan characteristics that are so imbedded into the other games. the abscense of these highly upset me. however, if you do not judge it as a zelda game i think it was very well done.

Smarketallstar Explains: Hey VGX! Cool sites! I don't know if you care, but I just mailed about the two N64 zelda games matching up to one another. I thought Majora's mask was fun, but I liked Ocarina of Time much better. Sure, MM's graphics were a shade or two nicer, but I thought that the story line was just a bit too cartoony. Whereas in Ocarina of Time, there were instances where you actually felt like the Hero of Time,...where you actually got so caught up that you took the salvation of Hyrule as YOUR sworn duty. Personally, I just didn't get caught up in Majora's Mask in that same way. Majora's Mask was fun, don't get me wrong, but I just don't have the special place in my heart for it that Ocarina of Time will always hold

Danut Tabacaru Comments: It was an ok game i guess. There were a few problems with it like all those heart pieces you had to get (52). And the ending......Oh my god couldn't they have done better? I might regret this but i think that Ocarina of Time's ending was Kinda better. I would rate it a 7 out of 10. I would say this was another side-quest of Zelda.

Lauren Says: Now for someone's point of view who only had the game for 5 days: When I rented Majora's Mask, I was sooo happy. When I first started my account, I was amazed at the increase of speed and graphics. After Majora's Mask went back, I was fustrated with the slowness of OoT. I thought the storyline rocked, and Nintendo gave people with smaller parts in OoT bigger parts in Mm (Like Anju, who was the chicken lady in OoT). It was fun figuring out puzzles, and I thought the Bomber's Notebook was awesome. There are a zillion side-quests, which I also loved. You can keep playing the game over and over and not get bored. Exploring the vast world of Termina was a whole 3 days itself. It makes you itch to go and try something another way, just to see what will happen. Now I beg to rent it every weekend, so I can play this awesome Zelda sequal.

[email protected] Says: I thought Majora's Mask was a wonderful game, I loved all the side stories and the noises the characters made. The ending was mildly disappointing, although it makes me curious if there is some way to help the Deku butler's son somehow. They don't even show Kafei as an adult (or at all for that matter) in the end sequence. I enjoyed the music greatly, the graphics were superb and the story was very good too, although I wish there was still more to do. All in all I am happy that I bought the game and I am already planning another go around on it.

Manacle Thought:MM was a great game for the N64, but the reason I tend to like OOT better is because it was more emotional for me. I think MM was a great game, but I didn't get as involved in it. That is partly because I at least really didn't feel a sense of accomplishment for doing anything in MM because at the end of the 3 days, it all goes back to the way it was. At least in OOT after you beat a dungeon Lake Hylia would fill up and Hyrule field brightened up, etc. etc. You don't have that in MM.

Lore Seeker Says:How can people complain about Majora's Mask? Ocarina of Time was cool while it lasted, but Majora's Mask is a LOT harder. The fact that all of the people have such significant roles is great. And also, I like not having to play as normal Link the whole time. Deku Link sucked a little, but Goron and Zora Link are sweet! I haven't gotten Oni-Link yet, but it looks sweet. Everything is taking a step towards Game Cube, which is gonna hold the best experience for us yet. Right now Nintendo is experimenting with some stuff that will make Game Cube better. But anyways, don't complain guys. This is harder than OoT by far.

[email protected] Says: Majora's Mask is highly superior to Ocarina of Time, yet there is something missing. The world of MM is HUGE! I still can't get over how many places there are to go, not to mention the amount of characters there are. Plus, the transformation masks are way cool. There are tons of sidequests and the whole mask concept is neat, though some of them are kind of silly (Link dancing?? I think the creators were on crack making that up..hehe) Going back to the first day all the time does get very annoying though. You have to do some sidequests all over the again, like getting the Couple's Mask and the Keaton Mask...who else didn't think that was annoying? The bosses and mini-bosses are cool though. Wizrobe is sure annoying though. As for the music, very cool! Ikana Canyon is just plain creepy (in a cool way) and the original Zelda theme is back and as awesome as ever!!! Very cool tidbit here for those who haven't noticed, but when you go to Zora Hall and visit each of the band members, they play tunes from other Zelda games! Anyone notice that? One thing I do notice about sequels for nintendo games is that they NEVER have anything to do with the overall plot! Take Super Mario Brothers is a perfect example, remember the sequel? No Bowser, no Goombas, no Koopas, no nothing! MM is fun, vast, and cool and all, but because it has nothing to do with the orignal Zelda plot, it still lacks that certain Zelda "magic".

Jeff Stenton Gripes: Some people may have liked this game, but I thought it was a piece of garbage made my Nintendo as yet another cash in title designed to get more money for themselve as if Pokecrap wasn't enough. This was a mockery of the Zelda legacy, and you could tell it was designed to use the Zelda name to make a quick buck. I gave this game to my little 5 year old brother, he would like it, I know that! This game is rather uncreative when compared to stuff coming out of developers like Squaresoft. I found much of the game repulsive, the music was horrid aside from the Hyrule Overworld theme, which itself was pretty uninspiring considering that I heard no changes from 16 bit Zelda. Ocarina of Time was a better game than this, and it shows. Nintendo really needs to get its ass in gear and stop patronizing the children. Just think how cool Zelda would be if there were more knight like enemies, the plot involved some romance, and greater character development and showed a little history. Damn, Nintendo has a gold mine in their hands and they don't even use the full potential of Zelda to outpace things like Final Fantasy. This isn't even a half-ass RPG, this is couple steps above Quest 64, another completely shitty game for the Nintendo 64. Nintendo sucks!!!! I give this game a 6 out of 10, so much potential wasted!

Ronald C Comeau Commends: Hi, I don't really care what everyone else thinks, I thought MM was a great game! I enjoyed the graphics and thought the speed was amazing. I felt that to really get into the game you needed to complete all the events in the Bomber's Notebook. I liked all the temple Bosses, especially Gyorg and Twinmold. I thought it was sort of cheesy that inside the moon was just a giant prairie. I like Link's different forms, since you don't have to play as just Link.(No offense.) I loved the Deku Scrubs in Oot, and I'm glad they got a larger role this time. I hope to see this letter posted! Seeya!

Unikron Writes: I have several things to say about Majora's Mask.

First of all, I've heard that some people don't like Majora's Mask due to the fact that it is so different and lacks a sturdy storyline. While playing Majora's Mask the impression that I got was much different. I love the fact that you can see all of the characters actually DOING things. I emphasise on the word word doing because in OOT many of the characters just sit there. The cucco lady stands there, all day long, waiting for someone to find her chickens for her. While Anju, the cucco lady's Termina counterpart, actually shows signs of life. On the second day you see her leave the Stock Pot Inn and walk through the rain all depressed like. The Nintendo guys hit a milestone with this one. They seem to have discovered a way to bring a video game to life. While playing the game I found the land of Termina to be much more vibrant and colorfull. I also like the fact that the characters have different and diverse reactions to the situations you put them in. I don't want to make a personal jab, but I read someone's comment that they didn't get any emotion from the game? Trust me, play the Goron Races and you will react with an emotion called anger. That race is very difficult. Anyways, I just wanted to add my two cents.

Other Comments and wierd things: At night time, when the stars are out, stand somewhere where you will get a good view of the night sky. South Clock Town is where I like to stand. Look up at the sky. See anything familiar? There are constellations up there, real ones. You can easily pick out the Big Dipper and Orion. Although I believe Orion is upside down from the way I see it at my home, suggesting that Termina would be somewhere south of the equator if it actually were on earth. I also think that Pegasus and the Southern Cross (It's also a Goose) are up there but I'm not too familiar with those particular constellations. It's just something to look at. If you pay attention during the opening screenshots of the game, you can see Orion's Belt during the scene where the Skullkid looks up at the moon. I believe it eventually ends up going out of sight behind his head. I would bet that the game programmers put the constellations in the game to add to the unsettling fealing of familiarity.

Something else struck me as odd: There is a strange similarity between Majora's Mask and Link's Awakening. #1 Link encounters characters that are familiar to him. #2 Link is on an entirely different continent, and in MM's case you're in a different dimention all together. One other thing is that the Wind Fish is mentioned in both games, Although it plays no role in MM you do hear about it. (Toto mentions that the origional Indigo-gos used to sing a song called The Ballad of the Wind Fish.)

One more thing: To do Swordless link trick for other versions of OOT you should play throught he game as child link without the sword, using Deku Sticks as a substitute. Then, when you draw the master sword you should immediatly put it away by pressing A and then go strait to Lon-Lon ranch. Ride epona, win the race and escape. Once all this is completed you will no longer have a sword. Sometimes, when you turn the game off the sword will come back. I haven't figured out a pattern. All you have to do is mount Epona to get rid of it! You can then attempt to go through all the Temples with no sword. It's possible to use arrows instead of a sword. There is only one draw back: If the sword just happens to come back after you've gotten the arrows, it will never again go away. That's why a way to predict how the sword returns is a vital element. I'm also going to try to perform Swordless Link on Majora's Mask. My theory is that when you go to get your sword reforged and they take it away, you should then go to a place where you can mount Epona. I haven't tried it so I don't know what will happen. It could work unless the programmers caught wind of the glitch from the first game and fixed that.

That's it. Love the sites, VGX.

Todd Says: i just want to say that the game is enjoyable. it can also be very annoying. having to put on/take off the masks over and over every few seconds is a real pain, even though you can speed up the video sequence by pusing a button [im retarded and didnt realize that until tonight and i've been playing the game for over a week.] also the were more complex and difficult to remember, which was REALLY a pain in the ass in the stone temple, where i must've played the elegy a million times. i like the fact that the smaller characters have bigger roles, but i HATE the fact that the major characters dont even HAVE roles. do you see zelda actually participating in the game anywhere? no. there's a memory of her. wow. do you see gannon anywhere in the game? not me. what exactly does this game have to do with the legend of zelda? i havent beaten it yet, because im still working towards oni-link.. trying to complete the game 100% my first go-round..so im not 100% sure on some things, but im pretty sure this DOESN'T involve the legend of zelda. it has link. thats it. the name of the game is "the legend of zelda: majora's mask"... does majora's mask have any effect on zelda, the triforce, or even hyrule as far as anyone else can tell? just curious. but the game is enjoyable as far as games go, i just think it'll be a long time before i sit down and play it through all over again.

Stars-flamesniper Explains: I was rather dissapointed; mainly because I think the creators tried to make it a follow up to OOT. Seeing the lady who lost her cucoos (Anju), the man who ran the fishing shop (Curisoty Shop man), and all the other people really gets old. With a new game, most people hope for some new elements in it. I found myself getting through the dungeons rather quickly because I knew exactly what to do. (hit the eye w/ an arrow, use a deku stick the set things on fire) Too many things also looked the same, (crates, buildings, trees, enemies) I found myself wanting to get through the game as fast as possible just to finish it. Maybe because I really wanted the game to continue OOT directly. It's not good old Hyrule, not trying to rescue Zelda, no Triforce, and after seeing Link as an adult, I don't take Link as a kid as seriously. I didn't feel for the characters and I didn't think I really needed to help them.

The whole thing played off a sub event (Mask selling) and made the game seem minor to the rest. The ending was just as worse than OOT, not at all what I expected. People have just been building up hope for something big for too long, and most had a big letdown. Nintendo should have waited till Gamecube to release it, give it extra umph. There were still some good points, and they gave the game a type of insane funny sense.

NF#2 Wants To Add: I'd just like to point out:

Majoras Mask is a perfect game! How can anyone have the right to complain about it? Even though I have still only defeated three bosses (Twinmold, Odolwa and Goht but not the Great Bay Temple one), I still love the game. My parents have gon as far as to limit me to 4 hours a day on it!

I have 22 masks, missing the Couples Mask (Curse you Sakon!) and the Fierce Deity's mask. I think that the masks is just a brilliant idea/expansion on OOT's idea, and the effects they have on Link are brilliant. The Goron curling is amazing! Episode 1 Racer in a Zelda game! Wahoo!

I must have misheard. Someone complained about the three day cycle? What the heck! It adds a new dimension to the game. It gives a sense of urgency, a sense of panic.

How can a Zelda Game be unemotional? The Goron Races are exciting, the Anju/Kafei subquest is sad (and annoying!) and when I defeated Odolwa, I stood up, pointed at the screen and said: "Haha! In your face Tarzan Kong!" Doesn't that say anything to anyone?

The fact that people move in the game, instead of just standing around is also brilliant. You will spend a lot of time in just Clock Town, just watching peoples schedels.

Yessssss! You can fight bosses you've already fought! Good on you Nintendo!! Why they didn't include that in OOT is beyond my understanding.

Overall, although the skin of a Zelda game isn't there, the heart and soul is.

Natalie Explains: i realy liked it. True it didn't have the same Zelda flare OoT had. But befor i start to sound like i'm bashing MM i want to complament the diffucuty level i mean you HAVE to do things in the game that would have been side quests such as Romaine's alien problem. You have to help her to advance in the game, i myself think it's cool that the entire game is based on helpng ppl and from helping ppl you get masks and from the masks you can advance in the game. and a tip for all you kids that want the game but you're parents won't buy it for you just say "but the whole game is about helping ppl" it worked for me ;-)

"MaT" Would Like to Say: OK how in the world can people say that they didn't like MM? What the heck. The game ruled. Yea OoT was cool but I mean MM was just awsome. No emotion?! oh come on! Ei: I beat the Mask w/oni link, stood yelled as loud as I could. And I thought it was awsome how people went places. I mean the only person actually "went" any where was the old guy in the market who just walked. I heard some guy on your site say the it wasnt "zelda material" What the heck. Hey have you played Link's Awakening? He said that there was no Triforce. You didnt even get the triforce in OoT!!! And he said no Ganon. OH come on that was what I liked about it. New bosses and A LOT harder than Oot. The Game ruled simple as that.I defenitly like this game more than Oot. I'm not dissin Oot though. Yea the game was awsome. But the ending sucked. The ending in MM was awsome! I mean it cant get better. Escpecially the tree and the butler. That was totally unexpected. Who cares if you couldnt see Kafie's face. Speaking of, waiting in Anju's room for Kaefie was emotional big time. I just cant believe that people could be saying that MM sucked. I think that it was an awsome chapter in Link's travels.

[email protected] Wants To Make Known:Hey VGX John here. I personally think that Gaiden was a dissapointment, but then again I think it was a big improvment. If I compared Ocarina of Time to Majora's Mask, I'd have to say that Majoras Mask's plot and overall layout of the game was more challenging( espically the Woodfall dungeon and the Stone Tower dungeon). But I think that they could have improved on the out side challenges. The personal things like with Anju and Kafie. A lot beter than Ocarina of Time. But Ocarina of Time seemed to me to be a little more mysterous like with more secrets for example the triforce. People are still trying to locate it. But I would recomend playing Majora's Mask Ocarina of Time finatics would enjoy it. I mean because it has a lot of material from the other Zelda. O and bye the way isn't one of the songs on the wall by the big dodongos the Nocturn of Shadow.

DonIncognito Puts In: As I played this game I got the impression that some other Zelda project was scrapped and this is what was created in its place. Now that I think of it, it all makes (almost) perfect sense. Originally, in the ending of The Legend of Zelda: The Ocarina of Time, Link was never meant to "return to his own time." Think about it: because Link never truly left his own time-line (he didn't travel seven years into the future, he only slept for those seven years) he never had to be returned to his own time in the first place. In fact, sending Link back did not repair the timeline but actually altered it (if Link goes back in time, thus keeping Ganondorf from gaining the Triforce, how is Ganondorf able to use its power to wreak havoc throughout the remaining games?). What I think was meant to happen was that the "new" Zelda was simply an add-on cart. Perhaps the add-on even involved a similar quest: maybe adult-Link had to use happy masks to save Hyrule from a falling moon. This would explain the role of the seemingly useless Happy Mask shop in TOoT (one of those "plot-hooks" Miyamoto frequently spoke of). But Nintendo got wind of the second-generation consoles being planned by Sega and Sony; therefore they planned on scrapping the original add-on idea (or at least greatly scaling it back in Asia and not even releasing it State-side) in favor of the new Project: Dolphin, which we all know as Gamecube. But Nintendo still wanted a new Zelda game to use as the Nintendo 64's final hurrah before Gamecube. Miyamoto and company decided to base this new game on the original add-on premise. But for some reason this new game was to feature child-Link (probably because the original premise involving adult-Link was too narrow in scope to support an entire story-line). As all these new decisions were made prior to TOoT's release, Miyamoto had to do a quick re-write. In the re-write he had Zelda sending Link back in time, totally disregarding the obvious continuity errors. But Miyamoto was going to be busy with Project: Dolphin so he left the new game, originally termed The Legend of Zelda: Gaiden, now The Legend of Zelda: Majora's Mask, almost entirely in the hands of his team.

Now after that longwinded introduction comes the inevitable question: did they do a good job of it? To answer: yes and no. Yes, because this is a fun, entertaining game involving numerous puzzles, mini-games and side-quests while being more challenging than its predecessor; but also no, because truly it isn't a bona-fide Zelda game. I mean, come on: Termina ain't no Hyrule. When you're saving Hyrule, you actually want to save Hyrule, but with Zelda: MM, the best part of the game was letting the moon destroy Termina: with the increasingly ominous music; the rumbling and crashing as the moon reduces Termina to a pile of shite. I mean: wow! And as the name implies, the Legend of Zelda should, conceivably, have Princess Zelda in it! (No, dream sequences do not count!); especially in a game attempting a return to its roots by bringing back the overworld theme and the shooting sword (speaking of which: Oni Link = bad-ass!). I would gladly exchange the shooting sword and the overworld theme for Zelda and Ganondorf and some good ol', Triforce-inspired mayhem. But I digress: because it does star the kid with the clipped ears, and because it does bear the Zelda name (and of course because it is a fun game), it is a must for any serious fan of the series. And for the very reason that it doesn't further the Zelda story, it will appeal to non-fans because they won't have need of the excess baggage of the past titles. Now bring on Zelda: Cube!

[email protected] Says: well i think OoT had the best epic storyline but the gameplay and quickness of MM was much better. tons of other enemies to kill. and those blob things on the termina feild were cool and not the mention the origonal Zelda theme! MM was fun and i did do more cussing at it than i did in OoT which is a plus. the more scussing = the better game. lots of it was tough and gave you headache's unlike OoT. now the time thing at time got on my nerves when i wanted to do something but it wasn't that big a deal. i like the unindexed songs. (double song of time, inverted song of time) the graphics are better overall also. i am looking foreward to the next zelda expirence on Game Cube. if it is what nintendo was bragging it up to be then it will be unlike any of us had played. Oh yea. VGX will there be another Gameshark blow out for MM? Keep up the good work!

Sean Smith Wants to Say: Hi. It's me again. I just wanted to say that this is the best game I ever played. It has better graphics than Ocarina of Time. I noticed that every little item plays an extremely important role. For example, the stone mask. It may seem like an insignificant item, but it helps you get through the pirate's fortress. I beat the game after only three weeks! Do you think this could be a record? Well anyway, I think this is the best game ever.

Zelmon Says: I really do think Ocarina of Time is better.....my ideas and dreams about Majora's Mask were way better than what it turned out to be. The whole Anju and Kafei was also a wee bit of disappointment for me, I REALLY wanted to see Kafei as an adult. The hand coming outta the toliet scared the crap outta me at first...but really....that was REALLY disgusting...to think that a human was trapped in that....if someone would've gone to the bathroom......well....you know. Majora's Mask is great, but it didn't have me getting up at 5 in the morning just to play it, and spend all my extra free time to playing it like Ocarina of Time did. Everything should've been a lot harder too. The only thing I thought was better was that that fairy hardly ever disrupted me when playing ^_^

Gegory Zimmerman Says: The game was incredably cool. though I don't think it was as awesome as OOT, it was still a great game. It had a deep story line, and characters you can get to like. More temples would have been nice, but hey, I won't complain! This was a great game. I will keep this one forever I think.

[email protected] Says: I think Majora's Mask was a great game, better than OoT.The Ending was better, in that you got to see a special scene about the masks you get, and some some sweet closeups of the ones you didn't.the transformation masks ruled though the deku one sucked. The Feirce Deity's Mask, was great, but going back to beat earlier bosses was too easy. Speaking of which, i liked going back to beat the earlier bosses. The Moon was unexpected as a place to visit. The Bombers Notebook was phat.Epona is Faster in this Game(or it seems like it) I loved The Side Quests. Overall this Game was way better than Ocarina Of Time. 9.8/10

[email protected] Says: Hey VGX, I got Zelda Majora's Mask for Christmas and I beat it six days after I got it! I mean the game was great, a lot better than Ocarina of Time, in my opinoin, but it should have been longer. With more temples like in Ocarina of Time.

[email protected] Mentioned: I loved it but the problem was if Ocarina of Time was short..... This is a minigame! The coolest part was seeing Link getting dragged along on his horse at the start with his eyes closed.... Me and my brother were cracking up. It is still an awesome game, I think better, though it's shorter, than Ocarina of time.

Tyler Ingersoll Explains: I think Majora's Mask is a cool game in it's own right, but it falls short of the epic storyline of previous Zelda games that we all know and love. I'm not saying it wasn't a great game. I thought the basic storyline was awesome. I just wish they didn't put a face on the moon. If that one little error had been left out it would have doubled creepy factor of the game. There are other ways to make something menacing without putting a stupid "scary" grin on it. And did anyone else think the giants looked stupid? Sorry for the spoiler but don't read these things if you haven't beaten it. However, there were some really good features. For one, was I the only one impressed with the little flips Link does when he's jumping. Okay, I know it's a pointless feature in the big scheme of things, but it was still damn cool. The 3 day thing was interesting and I loved the fact that you could beat bosses over and over again. Also, there are some interesting things left unsolved. I remember when I first walked into the door to Termina (or whatever) and Tatl pointed out that tree I was very intrigued. I wish they had followed up on it a little more. Is there a way to help him? Probably not. Just like in OoT there are many unanswered questions. Anyway, did I enjoy the game? Yes. Was it worth the money? Hell yeah! Did it satisfy me the way that OoT did? Not quite. Like many other people I noticed the lack of the traditional Zelda feel. The feeling that made so many others fall in love with the series. Still, it was a good game in it's own right.

Richard Fague Advises: Majora's Mask had a few problems. The way the game started was perfect. It couldn't have been better. The life every character has, the mask system, the bomber's notebook, beautiful stuff. But...Jeez, there was so much wasted potential. Do you have any idea how phenomenal this game could have been? So many things happen in the beginning that don't follow through in the end. The deku butler doesn't find his son. Anju and Kafei aren't shown at all. The ending was so uneventful. And why, why dear God why was the Triforce shown on those blocks near the Stone Tower?!!? OoT suffered the same mistakes, but with much less consequence. Nintendo needs a serious reality check if they want to become independent and successful for older games. It would do Shigeru good to read all of this stuff, the stuff that the gamers write. Otherwise, well, two words: wasted potential.

Jonathan Wrote (Very Well I Might Add): I left Ocarina of Time with a sense of honor; of dignity. Defeating evil, rescuing a princess; it was a great example of what video games can be. Had it the luxury of better graphics and speedier gameplay it could have easily blown everyone away.

Majora's Mask had these luxuries, yet in the rush of developing a game they left out the essential - the plot. It was like tasting candy rather than savoring a warm juicy steak with potatoes.

As i played through the game i desired to find some connection, no matter how small, to the great Legend of Zelda. I found none. I do realize that maybe this was a game to hold Zelda fans over until the gamecube arrives, but i felt disconnected, unfulfilled at the game's end.

My whole argument is this: With a plot revolving around a knight's quest for honor intertwined with love, light and true fulfillment, Majora's Mask had the potential to leave Ocarina of Time in the dust. The plot as i followed it went something like this. Now mind you this is extremely general: Link wants a friend, Link gets tricked, Link ends up in wierd world, Link saves stalkid, Link becomes friends with stalkid. Now with a game revolving around this. . . no wonder people left it with a sense of "what the heck did i just do?"

I had hoped that Oni Link would be an answer to my plea. He was stinkin cool, however i had hoped that he would have been the one to tie up the connection between this game and Zelda. He had the essence of the desire i had for a greater fulfillment. He was the definition of classic good versus evil. I felt no hatred for Majora's Mask, only petty annoyance. The mask itself was nowhere near as evil as Ganon and the fact that Link was more powerful in this game than he was in Ocarina of Time was ironic.

If you've followed me this far i congradulate you. What i've said in short is this: Every story needs a good plot. extra sweetness (candy) is optional, but you dont make candy your main meal at supper. For Majora's Mask to last it needed the plot. It doesn't have it. In a few years- expecially after the gamecube comes out, MM will be forgotten and Ocarina of Time remembered.

"Legends are created by Time. If in the end it is not remembered, then in the end it will not be a Legend."

[email protected] Says: What up VGX! Great sites man! I was disappointed in MM. I have only had the game 3 weeks and I am already finished. I really feel this was just a chance to cash in on the name of Zelda. The cinemas were nice, but it lacked that Zelda appeal, and I really didnt find it that challenging, and what the Hell was up with that last boss, the mask itself ? I mean come on, it turned itself in to a damn ballerina and danced around the screen with some stupid ass music, I cut him up in about three seconds flat, only to have him turn into a bigger version with tentacles and exploding tops! (sorry if this ruins anything for anyone) I mean really I havent played with spinning tops since I was a kid and they damn sure werent intimidating. So I totally destroyed this guy only to be greated with a lame ending about how lonely the skull kid felt and how everyone was still his friend and didnt give up on him, and I asked myself WHO CARES!!! I didnt stop Gannon, I didnt rescue the triforce and I didnt return Hyrule to its glory and save Zelda, I didnt protect the sacred realm! I mean come on!! All in all MM had some good parts, Ikana Canyon was just plain wicked, especially every time Tatl would come up and say the quote about the blood, it gave me chills, especially during those midnight gaming runs! I just feel that Zelda has gotten to the status that it should be a flag ship game, it has its own huge following, and should be treated as one of the greatest story lines ever created, and should only have games that contain Link, Gannon, Zelda, and of course the TRIFORCE which has been missing from the last two! Everyone knows what Zelda is, even though some have never played the games. I guess all in all I expect Zelda to be a more mature title, with a more complex story line. This was more of a , man I REALLY hate to say this, PokeZelda, just not what I expected. Well thats if for me, gonna check out your tricks section now that I have nothing else left to accomplish. Great sites, and keep the Zelda coverage coming!

Dan Boivin Explains: When I first got MM for christmas I was So happy! This game was honestly the best I've ever played.I thought that ocarina of time was good but this game blew me away! Majoras Mask has pretty much Everything I like in a game well almost. There were a few things that did bug me like the time factor.I hate having only three days and having to always warp back in time.Another thing is that you can't just save anywhere. You either have to warp to an owl or play the song of time. There are alot of things in this saving situation that make you lose items and somtimes your progress in the game. But other than those two factors it was a great game.

Andy Schneider Would Like to Say: These games are terrific. The programming is fantastic, albeit a few minor glitches in each game, but those are to be expected. I would have to say, that, even though Majora's Mask is a better game from a programming, layout, and challenge standpoint, I would have to say I enjoy Ocarina more. "Erin" had a good point in that Ocarina, like the Zeldas 1, 2, and 3, had a "legend" quality about it, while Majora's Mask (I can't emphasize enough what sweet games these BOTH are) has more of a separated plot, much like that of Link's Awakening (once again-- another great game). If I had one "major" problem with Ocarina (other than the mysteriously absent Triforce), it was that after about the second or third adult temple, there was no more exploring to do, that all that was left was to play dungeon after dungeon until the end, which I thoroughly enjoyed. I have a feeling when Majora's Maskwas being made, they (programmers) had figured this one out. They also made the cinema scenes, which had been stunning in Ocarina, some of the best I've ever seen. By the way-- This is easily the best and most thorough Zelda-related site on the 'net. Keep up the good work, VGX!

Allan Jacobson Says: Brian Says: Now that I have beaten this game, I think it's supurb! It's so much better and more realistic than before. Also, You actuially had a use for ALL The items. in Ocarina of time, you basically used the gauntlits a total of THREE Times:to get into the spirit temple as an adult, to get the life force doubler from the fairy and to get into a part of ganon's castle. Also, I'm Glad they left out that girlish squeak that they gave Adult Zelda in the previous game. God, that was annoying, but I am pleased that they gave the Fierce Diety Link the voice of Adult Link. it's good to hear that again, and the use of epona-that was cool. with enemies everywhere, you actually had a Reason to be able to use the bow on horseback. The 3-days till moonfall is really only a time limit on defeating a dungeon or accomplishing a certain task. you really don't have to do everything over and over again if you get it right the first time. when I play this game, I don't think of "Groundhog Day", I think of an allready Classic Zelda Game in a line of classics with a unique twist.

Kevin Steeves Wrote Briefly: Majoras Mask was way too easy, OOT was easy but MM is a discrase to the Zelda series (took me about a year just to get to the second quest on "The Legend of Zelda" (Nes) the gamecube zelda better be better...

[email protected] Says: I totally loved Majoras Mask. It needed more levels and the title was confuzing, I mean the title Zelda but no Zelda in it. All the levels where fun, but... I did get the players Guide beacause I didnt know where Woodfall Temple was but OOT was better by far . It was harder it had a better storyline. Some say it lacked the Zelda feeling. It did. I got it For Chistmas and beat it on Jaunuary 30.I was sad it ended beacause im a Zelda freak. Ive betten every Zelda and it needed more stages a harder quest. It was cool . Great vebsite,VGX see ya

[email protected] Says: Hi VGX! just writing to tell you my overall opinon anbout the legend of Zelda: majoras mask. the was a great game, just took me a while to relize it. it took me a week to beat it. yes, the temples are VERY hard, but they didn't take me more than a (real, human, non-game) day each. i was VERY dissapointed to see how short it was. afterwords, i played the game alot, collecting hart pecies and masks. then i relized how great the graphics where and how much effeort they muat have put into the game. now, having collected most hart peices (i need two more!) and all the masks (including oni-link mask. oh and by the way, "oni" in japanise is "devil". so, insted of oni-link, its devil link.) the game is kinda boring. i must have gone through all 4 temples a million times! i would start a new file, but my sister has that one. over-all, i would give this game a 6 out of 10. its also very weird, espechily the only reson why he ever set foot tin termins is to save epona. (right? epona is the "friend" they ramble about in the begining, right?)

Zman Says: I thought that Majora's Mask Rocked. I have the Gold Cartrage and it makes you feel dizzy looking at the hologram. I just couldn't get over the part where the skull kid is shivering in the rain all alone. I just couldn't beat him cause he felt so alone. I didn't even rent the game before I got it. If you feel that you need to rent the game then you must not like it that much. Majora's Mask is a must. Even if you dont get Majora's Mask or the Triforce in the game you shoudl still get it. Nintendo, Just next time let us gorons carry more than 1 power keg. I mean if link can carry 40 bombs with velcro (inside joke) than why cant Goron Link Carry atleast 5 power kegs?

Gamefreak Adds: think the game is the best zelda yet and possibly the the best game ive ever played. this game has great graphics, fun levels, not long and boring like ocarina of time, i especially like the way you can change form by putting on different masks. but it was all around a great game.

MaT says: Well I used to say MM was the best Zelda game. I used to say the plot ruled. I laughed at anyone who said that the game sucked. I even got mad at them. But now I realize I only wanted the game to be great. I wanted it to be a legend.
The temples, needed more. I didn't like the idea that you were stuck on one thing for four or five days. In OoT you got stuck on many things for four or five days.
The ending, I liked; or should I say used to. I watched to ending over and over again. About five or six times. Then I noticed something. In the other Zelda games Link banishes or destroys his dark nemises with a mighty blow. There is a thought that the enemy will come back for revenge and the world of Hyrule will despratley need Link's god-like strength and courage to save the land. But in Majora's Mask. They become friends. No. That is NOT supposed to happen. After I beat OoT I would have dreams of be being Link. Haveing a giant battle with the evil one that was purging the land. After hours of harsh fighting I would slay him and save the all of Hyrule. But with Majora's Mask I could not. What would I dream about? A mask with legs dancing around me? Then becomeing friends with Majora? Link is not supposed to have friends with an evil being that tried to destroy the world. It was plain and simple

Han Solo9 Explains: I think mm is the coolest Zelda game ever no comparison... therew were thimes when I felt like the people were real like during the Anju and Kefei , Cremia and Romani, andthe mayor's wife sidequests. I acctualy(sp) wanted to play the aftermath to see what everyone did at the end. Unlike Z64 this game actualy HAD the usual Hyrule overworld theame and the overall game was more challenging. It took me 2 weeks to beat the entire game of Z64mm but only 7 days to beat zelda oot. I also liked the concept of transforming into different races and accuire the different skills of each. Also the three day deadline makes the game a little tougher and more challenging. The only thing I get all burned up about is that freak of a fat, old, ugly, nasty, boring, fag of a plummer mario (uncapitalized because of disrespect)(boooooo mario booooooooo) the only reason I ever played the mario games was to see the pretty princess peach (but compared to Zelda she is nothing. thats all

Sean Ducar Laments: I recently got Majora's mask on the day it came out and I was seriously disappointed because I beat the game within a week and a half, (compared to Ocarina of Time which took about a month +) I had no players guide, no nothing all I had was my knowledge form Ocarina of Time. the game was easy from the beginning and didn't take long to get to and beat the first boss. I think the game could have been a whole lot better like have more temples, even though 4 were in the story line, the thing with the fairies was too easy, the temple bosses were SOOOO easy even for an inexperienced Zelda player, the items were the same as usual they could of add some new totally different weapon like a crossbow or something. And last but not least, that I can think of, the main boss Majora. my god he is so damn easy even without the Fierce Deity Mask( Oni Link). with the mask he took me under 30 seconds to beat, without it about 2 and a half minutes. The game's ending could have been much better. the only thing that took some thinking was completing the bombers notebook and getting all the masks. I give the game a 5.5 out of 10 stars, Ocarina of Time having 9.5. Put this on the Oddity of Hyrule so all gamers could heed my warning and not buy it but only rent it!!

Lindsey Explains:I thought the Game did Improve it's graphics from the last game as lots of people said, speed increased, and It was really cool to watch the people go around on their daily schedule, and how you could actually follow people around. The 3 day timing did add a bit of panic to the game, and made it harder, which is good because I always like a good challenge in video games. A let down I thought was the Ending. Not the cut-screen, but the final Boss. With the Oni-Link mask, the last level is entirly too easy to beat. When I first got up there to beat Majora's Mask, i thought "Im gonna have to go through 4 versions of him, like I went through 4 temples" Seeing as the Z-target help I was getting, seemed to be doing an overall of each temple. I didn't want to beat the game yet, seeing as I wanted to save my attention for when I would really enjoy it, and I liked to drag it out. I accidently killed off the 3rd version, thinking I could save and go back...Wow, was I wrong. Wrong, do not pass go, do not collect 200 dollars, whatever. I think that the Fierce Deitys mask was really cool, but I wish you could have used it more often, same with the giants mask (Would all of Termania run around in fear, seeing a Very Large Link?). I also think that Nintendo was trying to do that re-incarnation thing like they did in the last game, but I still think beating Ganon was a bit harder. In This game, i think that there was something else that everyone wanted, but couldnt have, like in the last game it was the triforce. In Majora's Mask, I would have loved to have Majora's Mask...I dont know if anyone else did, but then think of the power you would have, or peoples reaction (But then again, that would shatter Links good guy character, but In a way so did the Feirce Deity mask, which translated means Fierce God...) Over all though, I thought it was a great game with wonderfull graphics and strategies, but Im still waiting for when Nintendo is going to let you actually save and play around at the end of the game...

Epona84@aol Says: I grew up with video games. When my brother and I were little we would play Mario and Sonic. Now he has his playstation and I have my N64. However, I've never had that feeling that guys thought they were so much better at video games, though my brother repeatedly tells me I suck. I guess you could say I rate second to my brother. Though when we play video games together, I am better at coordinating what to do, and he is better at actually doing it. I suppose I'm the brains behind the whole thing. I play video games for fun. So I've never let issues of gender come into it. I'm not the best and I'm not the worst. I just want to stay young at heart!

Sara Would Like to Say: Hey, I just wanted to say that MM was a good game. My first Zelda game I ever played was Oot, but I really fell in love with the storyline. I love all that epic stuff. I took me forever to beat Oot. Literally forever and I had to cheat off of my brother a couple of times. In MM, well, I zipped right through it. The Woodfall temple is so rediculously easy and short I almost laughed. And the final boss was the most pathetic piece of crap ever. What was the second phase anyway. It sounded like a chuahaua on crack! That aside, the rest was great. It was so fast and the graphics were superb. I think I would copmpare this to Star Wars. The first one in the 70's captured the audience with the complex storyline and characters. Later Episode One is created. It has virtually no plot but just to show you what happened before you met the characters you fell in love with. Yeah, the graphics are amazing and racing scenes are cool. But it doesn't have the essence of a true Zelda game. By itself it is great, don't get me wrong. And the only reason the bosses are so easy is because you have to play them so many times. The last remark I have top make is why didn't you find Nav in the end or anything???!! It was the whole point of the side quest! Well, buhbye

Matt Says: OK. Majora's Mask was a pretty good game, but Ocarina of Time was much better. I must say that everyone agrees that it wasn't as involving as Ocarina of Time, or in other words, I couldnt feel like I was part of the game. At the end of Ocarina of Time, it brought tears to my eyes to see the ending, yet in Majora's Mask....Well that was just pitiful. I never even used any of those masks but maybe once, and for the rest of the game they are useless, all except the transformation masks and the bunny hood. The thing I hate most about Majora's Mask is it only relates back to Ocarina of Time one time and that is when he has the flashback of Princess Zelda teaching him Zelda's Lullaby. And why do they call Malon:Romani and Princess Ruto:Lulu... I think it should have been where they came along with Link or something like that, or they met each other again remembering their past. Still, Majora's Mask had some good things in it. Such as the good graphics and the transformation masks, which were really cool. The expansion of the places you could go was cool too. To sum it up, I like Ocarina of Time much better, but Majora's Mask was still a good game.

Ernesto Comments: I will have to say, Majoras Mask was great, bigger puzzles and dungeons, but the only thing that kind of let me down was that the story adventure was short...I mean, only four dungeons and a few semi-dungeons. Unlike OoT it had more dungeons to take care of, and the gameplay was short, I don't want people to think that I am saying that it sucked, men I loved it, I reserved my copy since it came on reservation and paid it as soon as I could, but I needs more game play (that's what made OoT game of the year). I understand that it had more challenges and things to to, upgrades and in order to do certain things you need certain things, I just think it needed some more gameplay?

Tara Says: I think Majora's Mask was a GREAT game. I've beaten it and I think its a bit more challenging than Ocarina of Time. Some of the changes they made were bad but, overall, it was a fun, challenging game!!

Christopher Explains: In a way I found Majora's Mask a much better game than Ocarina of time, probably because of the gameplay: It's the most original I've seen. I also like the importance of the masks. In Ocarina of Time they were there, but you couldn't do anything with them. But in Majora's Mask the play a greater role and are the most important items in the game. Plus there are a lot more mini-games in Majora's Mask- Goron's Raceway is a classic. Shure, it only has 4 dungeons, and ahure, it has a wierd storyline (A phsycotic mask trying to destroy the world is originel, although not epic). But still having a chance to swim as a zora would even warrent a purchess of this game. Majora's mask is one of my favorite games in my library, and I believe any self respecting gamer should own it.

Donna Wants to Say: I think Zelda 64 is the greatest game out there, but I think there should have been more weapons and Items to obtian in the quest( The Triforce for one) and what is the point of that stupid owl, He gives you info, but then jabbers on about the myth of this or the sage of that, Mario shouldn't be in Zelda 64, and most of all The ending should be, the triforces shoots out of Gannon, Zelda, and links hand, the form together and restore the darkness of Hyrule to its normal self, Link and Zelda get married, and Then they ride off into the distance to the castle on Epona, but the game is the best I've ever played, so Miyamoto, you are a true legend my friend, keep letting me get ZElDA for more years to come,so with that said, f*ck you Zelda haters, and most of all, down with homeworl(so I have more time to play Zelda) Peace out.

skwirt101 Explains: I'm getting major de ja vu, and it isn't because I've played the Song of Time for the millionth time. Gamers seem to be constantly complaining about Majora's Mask, whether it's the childish theme or how the game lacks the "Zelda" feel. Oh brother. Let's compare this game to one other than Ocarina of Time for once, because we all know there's no way Majora's Mask can be in any way better.

Anyone remember Zelda II The Adventures of Link? This was the sequel to the game that started it all, Legend of Zelda. It was a big disappointment because it featured the side-scrolling technique similar to Mario rather than above head scrolling used in The Legend Of Zelda. Fans complained that the game didn't have the "Zelda" feel. (Now where have I heard that before?) It also featured the fighting technique similar to Final Fantasy, which was released earlier. Basically, you fought numerous creatures, and after defeating them, you gained experience points. And to add to that, the game was HARD. Needless to say, the game was a bit of a flop. However, Zelda II really introduced the idea of gaining different spells, and allowed you to visit the many towns and villages in Hyrule. In fact, they borrowed quite a few names from Zelda II and used them in OOT, such as Saria, Nabooru, and Mido. The Legend of Zelda created the mold, Zelda II shaped it and hardened it.

Ok, now let's look at Majora's Mask. What opportunities has the game opened up? Well Link was able to transform into different creatures and opened up a wide variety of new abilities and puzzles. The characters, even Link, showed signs of life. I saw more personality in the guy than I've seen in any of the other five games. Also, I think the game was more than saving the world from being squashed by a moon. It showed human nature, and what happens when personalities clash. Watch the head carpenter's stubborness clash with the town gaurds' cautiousness and panic, and you've got yourself human nature. Then watch the mayor be helplessly caught in between, and you've got to feel sorry for the guy. Still not convinced? Next time you pull Mikau out of the water and create a grave for him, stop and actually watch. Link prays! He could be praying to Ali Baba and his forty thieves for all we know, but you know he's praying to SOMETHING, which means he has some sort of religion. And religion is the deepest thing of all. The point that I'm trying to get across is that even though some of you out there didn't enjoy this game, there's no doubt in my mind you're going to get more of it in games to come. Because that's what makes the Zelda series work, and that's what keeps the Zelda heart beating.

Eric Kersting Would Like To Say:Alright, Majoras Mask, overall, was a good game. Not great but not bad either.I will admit, the 3-day cycle sucks, playing the elegy every five seconds sucks, and the whole plot sucks, but the game has a lot of brighter points as well. Some of the masks really kick ass. ie. fierce deity, giant. Playing as zora and goron link was awesome. Deku link sucked though. Perhaps the greatest part of the game is how the people walk around at specific times of the day. And there is no better idea than having a bank. If other games had banks in them you can use, life would be so much easier. The fact that the skulltulas are secluded to homes instead of the whole land is awesome too. Ocarina of Time was, by far, much better than Majoras Mask, but MM was still a really good game.

Jeb Bush Campaigns: Wow, and I wanna say it again. WOW! Honestly, the control scheme remains, the element of surprise that was in all of the Zelda games is still alive. But it didn't follow OoT all that well. Sort of "a false sequel" of sorts. But I still wonder....where's Navi? Not that I missed her. But if this makes it to the site, call me Gary.

Anonymous Says: Hey, good sites. I thought that MM was an awesome game. I know other people have said this, but after playing and re-playing both MM & OOT, I think that OOT is better. It isn't that much better, but better. It was fun, playing as a Zora, a Goron, a Deku, a Giant, and playing 'Good guys and bad guys' w/ Majora. The ending wasn't the best in the world. They did pump up the graphics a bit. It should have been bigger, though, using the Expansion Pack. I love both Zelda's fo N64, and am looking very forward to GC. Love the sites, keep em up!

The Plumber's Helper Would Like to Say: Majora's Mask is an interesting game, being the first Zelda game to be truly 'surreal'. The repeating time aspect (reminds me of "Groundhog Day" w/Bill Murry) is a genius idea. The game has sort of an "Outer Limits" touch to it when you take everything into consideration. The way the masks are used is really cool as well. I don't mean the way that you put them on and you change into something, I mean the feeling you get when you realize that while the masks are ordinary to those who possess them, they play an greater role overall. If you pay close attention to the dialouge near the end of the game, you may come to fully understand what the masks represent and what it means to be a "mask salesman". Enough about the story and it's meaning. The game overall doesn't seem as big as TOoT, but there is a lot more to do. Taking into consideration that each person has their own lives and does their own scheduals each day makes the game even more interesting the first time, maybe even the second time through, because things constantly change. For an odd reason, in TOoT, it felt as though the world revolved around you. If you needed something, you could go find the right person to talk to and they'll always be there for you during the day (or even the night). In MM, people have their own lives, as I said, and may not always be there for you to talk to. MM makes you seem like a small part of the crowd, who must schedual according to the other people, and not some god with a sword who people wait around patiently for. The battle system remained mostly untouched from TOoT, and with the addition of several new attacks, the game really offers a lot for combat. All in all, the game is really cool, and the only part that got to me was that it was to short. Way to short. The SNES "Link to the Past" took me years to beat completely. I beat MM in about a month and a half (I didn't even play during the week). Why can't they make games lenghty like they used to? Why, in my day, games used to...

Vixen Rider Says: Hello VGX. I just had to say this about MM. First off, the game was the easyest Zelda i've ever played. Don't get me wrong, it was a cool game, (defently because of Oni Link) But the thought of playing the same three days in a row somehow maniaged to get me. Honestly, if i was going to rate this one against the other Zeldas, Majora's Mask would have been last on my list. The Ocarina of Time, so far, has been the toughest of the Zeldas, which is what i love in a game. Mind you, I have no reason to say that this game sucked, because it didn't. But compared to the other Zelda games, it kinda did. Majora's Mask reminded me of the movies, Ground Hog's Day, and the Mask. The OoT, however, didn't come close to a Movie, and yet, it did. It was it's own Movie. So honestly, I think that it wasn't as good as it was suposted to be.That's all I wanted to say, Thank you, Video Gamer X.

DarkDan Explains: I know this came a bit late, but I was reading the Your Imressions section of the Oddity of Hyrule and I felt that I had to say this. Who cares if it doesn't have Zelda, or Ganon, or the Triforce in it? We've got enough "Ganon takes Zelda to use her to get the Triforce to save the world and now it's up to a kid in a green tunic named Link to save the world" Zelda games. Besides, you don't need to get absorbed into a game and feel like a part of it to have fun! My only gripe is that the moon falls way too slow when you fail to play the Song of Time. You'd think that two large heavenly bodies with enough mass to create a signifigant amount of gravity would fly towards each other a little faster than that. And to those who compare it to Final Fantasy, I need to say this: Final Fantasy VIII, Disc 3, the outer space sequence: watching somebody drift through space for five straight minutes (I timed it) not to mention the part after the space capsule scene that precedes the "I have to catch her" "minigame" is not fun or riveting or tense or suspensful, it's boring! And it's even worse when an unfortunately place scratch on the disc causes the game to freeze right at the end of it all! I found that out the hard way.

DarkLink1821 Would Like to Say:Ok, there's just two things I have to say about Majora's Mask. First off, the music... sucked! I was really looking forward to hearing the music on the game. Knowing how great of a game OoT was.(the music was the best part) Second, I've been playing Zelda games since I was 7 years old, and every single game was a legend and will always stay in my mind. When I played Majora's Mask, no, it didn't leave me a memory and personally, I didn't like it.(sorry Nintendo, nice try) It didn't seem like a zelda game to me... too... wirred. And ONLY 4 dungions... .... I WANT MORE ACTION. I guess one more thing I didn't like about it,(and why I don't replay it like OoT) is that there's A STUPID CLOCK. At first I thought it was cool. But now I can't go back to something with out replaying it.(Don't expect me to play this game again)

Casey Says:I must say a lot a people missed stuff. The reason link is out there riding his horse is to find SARIA!!!! he wnt to find his friend. It is a good game, yes it could have been improved with more temples but they did better then Toot. in toot it didn't have decent side quests, in mm some of the side quests acually made the game better. also the tree at the begining, BUTLER'S SON!!!!! if you notice it says something like it apears to be a deku.DUH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Dan Would Like to Put In: MM was a great game. It had everything you come have wanted. It had much bigger places great sidequests and the masks.(if you ask me thats the best part) Being about to play a 4 wonderful great characters. Plus the look it was great... so much darker. It also gave me wonder...(deku butler, unopenable metal door...) Plus the bad guy is from OoT which suprized me alot. I'm pritty sure its him too...(wants to be scary, is alone, says you smell linke the one who taught you that song) Some downers is that... it feels odd beacuse your not in Hyrule, Nobody knows you.(hey its a side story of OoT, what were you expecting?) and it was easy there hard there(which is good, just suppriseing) I veiw is if you loved OoT, buy this great story neat graphics and cool characters, everything you need.

Becky Buttercup Advises: Majora's Mask is really fun but in some respects I agree with other people about it not being a centimental as Ocerina of time. I used to play it alot. It makes me sad sometimes because it reminds me of my old friends I miss that I had to move away from! But what I liked about Majora's Mask (now beaten) was how earie and creapy it is! I've allways enjoyed that! And I like the idea of the skullkid being the enemy, only I wish he actually stays evil for the whole game! All in all Link to the past is the best game, but I do prefer the more "forest" touch that the Ocerina of time's "Castle touch" But I still prefer the Ocerina of time because of the memories!

Marty Elmore: VGX, Allright, Majora's Mask was a great game, but it doesn't compare to Ocarina of Time at all. Sure, it has better graphics and all, but it totally takes off doing it's own thing. IT hasn't got anything to do with Zelda herself. Plus, there were points when it was too darn hard and then there were points when it was just too easy. Ikana was hard but goo gosh, the moon was the easiest thing I've ever played through. Plus, the ending. My Lord, that was the crappiest ending ever. It made me so mad that it never told if Link found Navi or anything. I do think its a good game and all but it could have been so much better. Mayamoto was high on crack when he thought up the whole "three days" thing. Sure, it added a nice effect to the game, but it's so frustrating to go back to the first day and loose your progress. Is that not retarded? Sure, it makes since but it makes the game too hard. It seems hard right up till you get to the end. The plot builds up right up to the end and then it just drops. Majora was so easy I don't even like to think about it and I hated the ending.
But, not comparing it to "true" Zelda games, it was very well thought up, planned, and was fun overall.

James Comments: Hi I'm james and I think Majora's Mask was a great game, a little weird but still great. I read some of the other impressions say that it wasn't comparably to any of other Zelda games because it didn't fall in line with the typical Zelda scenarios, but I disagree. You have to look at all the Zelda games. There was Zelda1 which follows the traditional Zelda theme, then there was Zelda2AOL wich was just a second adventure for Link, but didn't follow the "traditional theme". Then there was Zelda3LTTP wich followed the "traditional theme". Following that there was Zelda4LA which was a second adventure for Zelda3. I feel Majora's mask is second adventure for Zelda5OOT which is just following the TRUE Zelda tradition.

Fuuchi-san struggles to explain: I was... so... dissapointed.. in the whole... game's plot... It was fun, interesting, weird and fascinating, but, it was not... the magic of Hyrule... when I (get a chance to) play the original Legend of Zelda (at my friend's house who is sooo much older than me), I feel an incredible surge of adrenaline, and I think... 'This is how it felt... feels... to see and play the way my... "forefathers" (hee hee) did.' I loved OoT, and it's that hope that I'll find glitches, tricks, or... the Triforce (just kidding) that keeps me playing it to this day. Anyway... It didn't have the same magic the other games I've played. It was too weird. Too green and too red. The color was what really dissappointed me. It spoiled the whole effect, too, that Clock Town was so... wooden... overall, it doesn't have the same feel, satisfaction, and replay value. The triforce played no part in it... yet, it didn't have the dream-like (no pun intended) atmosphere and gameplay as Link's Awakening (my first completed Zelda game). I was... dissapointed.

Allen Pasini Comments:I thought that Majora's mask was a great game and the actual places in the game had a real great impression on me. The big differences of the 2 games, Ocarina of Time and Majora's Mask were #1 Majora was way too short. This i quote. #2 it didn't have the same addictive feel as Ocarina of Time, you know, the feeling where you actually felt like you were the hero of time, saving Gorons and defeating Volvagia. #3 The temples in majora's mask were way more creative than in Ocarina of Time, but if they incorporated the creativeness of majora's mask into the Ocarina of Time it would be almost the perfect game. #4 the ending. Majora's mask had a waaaaaaaaaaay better ending than Ocarina of time. So from this info that i collected during playing and beating the game, I think that the Ocarina of time was much better than Majora's Mask. But don't get me wrong, Majora's Mask was a good game too.

Margaret Adams Complains: For one it IS good that they strayed from the normal plot, which is that Ganon kidnapps Zelda in order to get the triforce. But they put no emotion in the game, it is a very straightforward plot, and there are no twists. The sidequests are just plain annoying, and the good things in this game just don't last. They made the chateau milk, that was a good thing, but you have to wait till the second night just to get it, and then it just goes away when you save. there were also way too many heart pieces, 52 is just going way too far. The dungeons were way too short, and the bosses way too uncreative. When they moved Link to an alternate world, they included way to much mechanical stuff. Even if it was a different world, it's no excuse to put electronic stuff in the world. What was up with all of it? Practically every boss, or even sub-bosses were electronic, and were not well programmed. Goht, what in the world was up with him, a chase around the mulberry bush, or just a lousy excuse for a boss. If you ask me, the answer is all of the above. They used Gekko way too much, and you had no sense of saving the world all throughout the game. Plus, the aliens???? Whose idea was it to put that in the game, they should be drug out in the street and shot. Like I said earlier, the side-quests were just plain worthless. Anju and Kafei were put in the game just to annoy you till the very end, and even then, it was way too easy. This game was a let-down, it was one of those "Phantom Menace" kind of things, it gets all hyped up, and then is just plain not that good. There was none of the heroicness that was in OoT. The point of the game was not really to stop the moon by yourself, but to save the "giants", if I dare call them that. And all of that just brings me to the final boss, enough said. The mask was a fluke. You beat him once easily, the second time even easier, and the third time was the easiest. He was not hard, and even if he MIGHT have been, the Oni-Link didn't help it any. All that you had to do was stand in one corner and just keep pressing B. The little disks were weak, by that I mean very lame, they hurt him way too much, and homed. They shouldn't have homed, well, for that matter, they shouldn't have even existed. And another thing that I found very annoying was that some masks could only be worn at certain times. If they're going to give you a mask, you should be able to wear it any freaking time you want to. this game was very disappointing, and does not really deserve to be called part of the Zelda series, but just Mask of Majora. I was disappointed, and maybe you will think twice before buying it.
