MISCELLANEOUS TRICKS AND GLITCHES
Updated 6/20/99

A lot of gamers have sent in some glitches and unique tricks to the Odyssey of Hyrule. Now these won't give you the power trip that some of the awesome ones like "Swordless Link" and "Crooked Cartridge" provide, but they are still fun to do. Thanks goes to all these gamers that took the time to find these and look throughout the game for great finds.

Scott Found: have you ever wanted to use your sword under water? Well, you can!!! The only downer is that it's a one time thing and you have to use magic. Ok, first, go to Lake Hylia or another water source where there is a slope. Next, put on the iron boots. You then charge your sword so that it turns "fire-engulfed" and walk slowly down the slope into the water. If you "drop" down a level, your sword won't be charged anymore and you'll have to start over. If you did it right, you'll have a charged sword, and you can release it on any enemy you encounter. If your hookshot or longshot is equiped, then it will light up, while the other c-button items are faded, proving that you're underwater.

Email Scott about his trick - [email protected]

Scythium Found: It's me again, with some new tricks! Didja know you could kill poes inside the walls of the graveyard? Didja know that you can stun Gerudo guards as a kid with bombchu? Didja know that if you play your transport songs but don't transport on each correct medallion symbol around the master sword, picking it up with occur in total silence?

But wait, there's more! Two twists on Swordless link: 1.Lose your sword, save, and reset. Get on the horse, ride it into LonLon ranch, and accept the obstacle course. Play the song of storms during the obstacle course. Purple Haze!

2.Get on the horse, and do the ocarina detachment. At lake hylia, you can kill tektites by brushing their sides.

Let loose some bugs or fish on the master sword pedestal, and pick up the sword. The bottled creatures will stay throughout the cinema, and if you can time it right, follow you into the past or future!

Play the song of storms inside the gravekeeper's hut. The sounds of crickets and rain are REALLY loud in here!

Ice keese: In the fire temple, in the large room with the column of fire where you have to push a block onto it, there is a large grating that you can climb. Climb to the top of it and get on the catwalk, you should see two bats resting. Shoot each of them with an ice arrow. The frozen keese will never melt and never be harmed by anything you do to them. Also, you can push them around by walking into them. The only way to fully kill them is knock them off the catwalk.

E-mail Scythium about his tricks/glitches - [email protected]

[email protected] Found: When you are young link, stand on the island above the gate to the water temple. Go to the part of the isalnd where it starts to curve downwards toward the water, but make sure it is just above the gate. Now use Cup to look down as far as you can. You will hear a noise far a while and then a boom. What you just did was open the Water Temple gate early!

[email protected] Found: This glitch is entitled " You'll need a parachute!!" First you go in front of Hyrule market town and climb the drawbridge chains. Then play the Sun's Song to make it night. Once the drawbridge is up walk onto the drawbridge and roll towards the town. If you did it right you should fall right through the ground.

[email protected] Found: FIRST TO PROVE THIS TRY USING THE SAME SYMETRIC ORDER ANY WHERE ELSE IN HYRULE AND IT WON'T WORK!!!!!

FIRST MAKE SURE YOU HAVE BIGGORONS SWORD OUT AND A SHIELD"DUH" NOW STAND RIGHT IN FRONT OF THE PEDESTAL WHERE IT SAYS DROP ON YOUR ACTION BUTTON. MAKE SURE YOU HAVE THE SWORD OUT. NOW THIS MUST BE DONE IN ORDER OR I WON'T WORK!!!!!!!! ( HOLD TOGETHER) FIRST HOLD "Z" THEN "R" now "A", IF YOU DID IT RIGHT YOU WILL BE STANDING IN FRONT OF THE PODEUM WITH YOUR SHIEL AND BIGGORON SWORD OUT!, ONCE YOU LET GO YOU WILL TRAVEL BACK IN TIME!!!!!

Rotis Found: Hi. First of all I'd like to say that your Odyssey of Hyrule page is awesome ;) I love the reported glitches, such as the windmill cucco (and falling off of the edge of the earth), and the swordless link and "lost in space" link tricks. Well, the other night, I was playing around with the Lost in Space Link trick and something really strange happened. I was playing around in Lake Hylia (for some reason my game won't let me use the hookshot at Gerudo Valley, no matter how many times I re-equip it--I have the gold cart), not really doing much of anything, just seeing how far I could go. I was on the very far edge of the lake, and I was resting up against the "mountain wall" that marks the edge of the playing environment. I wasn't really trying to get over the wall... you know how those annoying little crows will make you go up in the air a bit, scream, and then fall if one hits you? Well, one of those came flying right into me. It hit me just right, and I went up and over the wall! The strangest part is that I didn't just fall and fall and fall and fall... I landed in some invisible water... so there I was, treading water in water that didn't exist, surrounded by an endless void of sky pattern, staring through the wall back to Lake Hylia. It was quite odd, to say the least! After flipping out briefly, I just sat there, almost afraid to move. I then wondered if I was stuck outside the lake, and swam towards the wall. I went through the wall and was back in Lake Hylia, as if nothing had ever happened... I haven't had a chance to try it again, but that brings up all sorts of fun new questions: what would've happened if I had put on the iron boots? How far could I have swam out? Why the heck was there water out there in the first place? (Lazy programmers that figured that no one would ever get out there? ;)

Link 23 Found: Wanna know what adult link can get in serious trouble if navi catches him with a deku stick Why? How the hell should I no I didnt make the game just the code!! Perform the swordless link trick then go to anywhere that big deku babba's roam.Slice one up so it will turn into a DEKU STICK then just collect the prize when the stick floats above links head So u know u got it Push START!!! Now save and hit reset. Turn on your file, and u'll be in the temple of time, with a deku stick in the B!!!! button look at the start screen, and link will no have a stick equiped on his hand Push B and navi will give you the message of when you first became adult, "Looks like you can't use some items you got as a kid link!" Then it will freeze! Have fun

[email protected] Says: In Ganon's Castle, in the last hall before Ganondorf, you hear Link running on the carpet, but when you run on the strip of floor to either side of the carpet, it still sounds like Link's on a carpet!

Mastersord Points OutI remembered in a link to the past that you could use the bug catching net on agenhiem or whatever his name is so I thought about bottles being like the same thing so I used a bottle to reflect ganondorfs magic I think you can use other things but I havent tried yet .I wanted to tell you first cause your site is so awsome!!

Matt Kinney Found: Hello, my name is Matt Kenney and I've found two simple tricks that I have not seen on your site, which is, in my opinion far superior than those idiots at Nintendo Power. 1. After you have defeated the Gerudo woman and gotten all four keys, you talk to her. for some reason she has the same color shirt as you. If you then change shirts/tunics, she will change colors too! 2. That simple trick is not however the reason for my writting. I have found a way to easily score 2000 points on the horse back archery!!! First you must lose your sword doing the ganon trick. Then simply go to the archery range, pay your 20 rupees and start out. Set the ocarina to one of the c-buttons and the bow to another. You will not be able to see either while riding. Start out the game, then use the ocarina, this will get you off the horse, simply press B and then you can run around freely. Now, line yourself up with one of the targets, not the jars, but the targets. Z-TARGET and use the bow. Now simply aim correctly and pump out all of your arrows. If you aim well, you should get 2000 points. NOTE: you can not do this by just using the bow, you MUST Z-target. Also, I have the gold version, so it might not work on other versions. I did this to see if you could get anything for getting 2000 points, perhaps that horse sitting there... Unfortanately you get NOTHING! He merely says, 2000 points... quiet impressive. But hey, I believe I am the first to figure this out as I have not seen it else where! Enjoy!!

[email protected] Found:As child Link, go to Hyrule Field and go to the ledge near Gerudo Valley in front of the owl (where the flying Peahat is) Look to your left and you can also see the owl near the entrance to Lake Hylia (only works if you haven't spoken to the owl near the entrance to Lake Hylia)

[email protected] Found: Use T-dog's trick to get outside Korkiri forest then go to zelda and say yes about the "spiritual stone" and it will work. You will lie to zelda!

[email protected] Found: i was trying your purple haze trick a while back and discovered a cool cheat. i started a race and i was playing around . i pulled out my ocarina and played the sun song. i went inside one of the buildings after that and then went back out it.i played the sun song again and when i walked up to malon she gave me a new time of 36 seconds. i tried playing the sun song on the time 0 and went through the process again and i got the time 0 seconds! it was cool, just make sure you got the swordless link trick on.

Steve Allen (?) Found: now i have a trick that works become a child and equip the sling shot and the ocarina now hold down the button you have the sling shot to while hold ing down the z button you should be looking at link holding the sling shot do not let go of nethier of the buttons now while holding the buttons down push the ocarina button. now link has a dancing blue ball in front of him while he's playing the ocarina.

Tony Davis Found: Hey, I found a small glich at the fishing pond. But its not real big and its a one time thing. First, do the trick where you catch the fisherman's hat on the hook. Then drop it in the water and the fisherman should say "im not letting you off that easily, pay me 50 rupees, im serious!". Now goto the exit door with the fishing rod but don't press anything. The fisherman should say "Hey! when your done fishing return the rod to the counter, im serious!". Haha looks the fisherman must not have been that serious about it, he forgot about the 50 rupees. You lost the fisherman's hat and didn't even pay him for it, naughty you! I guess changing the subject sometimes can get you out of trouble!

[email protected]Hey waz up? I just found your web site and I think it's phat! I have also been reading on all the tricks people have found in Zelda. It got me in the mood of trying to find some tricks to. I found a little trick but I really think it's stupid. You know if your caught in the castle as young link you get kicked out right? Well, I did a trick and I don't get kicked out BUT the only thing is that the game gets stuck! Heres how out do it: 1). Go in the castle and get behind a guard, but don't get to close or else you'll get kicked out. 2). Have the Ocarina on a C-button. 3). Move towards the guard and right before he catches you press the C-button where the Ocarina is. 4). Play the Strom Song or the Sun Song. The result is that Link won't get kicked out! Link is then looking up at the guard and the guard is looking down at him! The game should now be stuck and you must then rest. It's stupid and hard to do. I just wanted to share my find. Thanx for listening.

Alan Found: Hey! I just found a really interesting little trick! (I thought I'd send it to you because you have the best, and mean BEST, Zelda 64 webpage!) Here it is: *Being a kid or and adult doesn't matter; it works both ways*Play the Noctourne of Shadow and warp to the Graveyard. Go into the Shadow Temple, and then come right back out. Stand at the base of the stairs that lead to the Graveyard (inside that room with all the torches) and play the Song of Storms. Wait for a second, after the rain stops, and the sky outside will turn blue and gorgeous. YAY! NO MORE RAIN IN THE GRAVEYARD! Wait....When you go back outside, It will start raining again, but the blue sky will remain! Pretty crazy, huh? nothin special, just a little trick I thought was cool. thanks!

Joe Ross Found: Im telling you this first because i love you site. These glitches are about Nayru's Love. First if you cast Nayru's Love in a bosses room that you have already beaten and then walk onto the shiny spot on the floor you will be warped outside of the temple. Nayru's Love will no longer be in affect but the magic meter will still act like it is and you can't use any magic until it "wares off." Once again cast Nayru's Love and then play The Prelude of Light once again the magic meter will still be glowing without Nayru's Love working. Now run outside of the Temple of Time and the spell will be back in affect. Now you can go back inside the Temple of Time with the spell still workin and watch the cut scene with Nayru's Love in a effect.

Angus Donohoo Found: m Angus Donohoo and I think I may have discovered a new trick for Zelda. I have allready writen to you once or twice but I got no reply so I have sent my trick in once again. Anyways my trick is this: As young Link go to a patch of soft soil where a magic bean has been planted and play the song of storms. A vine grows up and 3 fairys pop out. Pretty cool, very usefull if you need your health back and or you've got a spare jar or 2. Whilst I am here I might as well ask a question thats been bugging me for ages. In the game I generally play on I have done absolutley everything I can [without Dying too] as far as i know, Navi's icon now never flashes and when I go to Navi[through Sarias song] Navi says "Link...try to keep on moving!!" Whats with that i cant think of why Navi would want to say that to me maybe shes worried im going to get captured by Ganondorf if I stay still, it just seems kind of weird to me?

What do you think? Could there be something more [ I personally doubt it] or is it something that was supposed to be there? Has this happened to you or anyone else? - [email protected]

-Lone- Found: Blue haze: Yes, I have seen the purple ones, but blue haze exists too. While Lon Lon Ranch generates purple, Gerudo Fortress has blue. Just do the swordless link trick in the Horseback archery race, get off the horse with the ocarina, and play the song of storms. One question comes to mind: Did they color code the different areas? Why are the hazes different colors?! Can you get orange haze? Green?

Deku Sword: Now this one gets me thinking. A deku sowrd as an adult? Yes, it's true. Go to the fishing pond with the hover boots equipped. Slide onto the water with the fishing pole, and try to cast right as you are floating in mid-air. You'll land in the water, and a second later you'll cast. Walk over to the door, and even though it won't say open, open it. Once outside, jump into the water. Get out, get back onto land, hold Z target, and press start. Un-equip the hover boots and put it back to the good old fashioned Kokiri boots. Your rod should now be (gasp) a deku stick! Whoa! Trying to use it will freeze the game, though. Note: In a few cases, the deku sword REPLACED the Biggoron's sword. Do NOT save with the deku sword or else you will lose the Biggoron sword forever.

Purple Cuckoos: Go to the bombchu bowling alley (As a kid, of course). Go through all the rounds until the last target, then waste all your bombchus. When asked to play again, say No. Look down the bombchu alley with C-up. The chickens all look like they have been put under black lights!!

cybe(Rich)69 Found: heres a little trick i found: if you have a super controller, that will help, set the rapidfire to the same button as the lens of truth, as you walk hold that C button, you will be able to use the lens of truth without using magic, and be able to determine hidden areas easier.

Tim Found (Note: This requires Swordless Link):Swimming in Hyrule field: Go over near the enterance to Zora's River( It works best when you are by the cliff like thing with the fence where a ghost appears). Use an item to get off Epona(ocarina, deku nuts). Use the sinking boots and go in the water. Press A to mount on Epona. Link should be in the ground mounting an invisible horse. Press start and switch your boots. You should be able to swim in the ground.

Sound Glitch: Go into Gerudo Valley. Just as you get there stop by that wooden plank. Dismount Epona with an item. Go pick up a rock. Press A to get back on Epona. Hold still and then press A to get off . When you hit the ground it sounds like you are landing on water even though you are landing on the ground.

The Invisible Stairs: Go to the cliff in Gerudo Valley. Use an item to get off Epona. Simply, run off the cliff.

Die two times: Do the previous trick. Put on the sinking boots. Do not wear the Zora Tunic. On your last second of breath, press A to get on Epona. You should die then fall down in to darkness. You will reappear at the entrance. All of a sudden you will collapse and die. It's kind of fun

Justin Fletcher Found: Hi my name is Justin and I found something that I did not see on your site.1. Turn into adult link. 2. get the hookshot 3. go to the windmill in kakariko village. 4. grapple onto the wooden beam to the left of that secret passage thingie. 5. Dont move, just watch.

The Red Walrus Strikes Again! Using the gamesharks default zelda codes and the crooked cartridge trick I have 25 hearts and counting and 260 golden skull tokens and counting. The top row of hearts contain 10 like usual and the bottom row has fifteen and are expanding out under the button icons. The game shark usually gives you a limit of 255 golden skull tokens but I'm getting more. I played around with the crooked cart trick after putting in my codes for zelda on gameshark. I started a new game and could keep getting hearts and spiders. With gameshark alone it won't let you go beyond the limits. I'm gonna see how many I can get and if the heart row will extend all the way to the right side of the screen.

Another cool thing I found with the game shark is making the three spirtual stones form into one twirling, multi-color stone. Put codes in, start a new game, get saria's ocarina and play song to warp to the temple of time. On the pedestal will already be the three stones. Play song of time and the three stones will come out of Link as usual and set on the pedestal. And then they turn into one stone in the center of the pedestal and the triforce symbol above the door will light up but the door won't open. Makes you wonder if at some point the stones were meant to form into one.

HappyMan21 Found: Hi! I have a few twists on the Crooked Carridge trick. The first glitch is called "Time flies when you're invisible". I guess I've already give it away, but for those who don't get it, I'll tell you. After taking the Master Sword out of the pedestal to go forward 7 years, do Crooked Cartridge. If you do this correctly, you will hear a splashing sound like diving into water, and Link will disappear! When you arrive 7 years later, the screen will have some funky disco ultra-violet rays and sharp lines of resolution. Here you will have to restart the game (the Reset won't work, so turn it off then back on). The next glitch is called "Top Story: Horse Witnesses Teenager's Suicide." While in the air dismounting from Epona, do the Crooked Cartridge trick. You have to time it right. Link must be completely in the air. Instead of landing , you will keep falling. Epona will vanish and you will fall through total blackness until you hear a sound like falling short of the mouth with the gate in the Shadow Temple. You will then be placed in front of Hyrule Castle. Makes you wonder why there was a planned dying sound instead of a lagged and fuzzy reaction. Hmmmm.... A room with a cliff? Or just a glitch? Whatev the case may be, it's weird. The third and final glitch is called "I'm flying.....look at me way up high suddenly here am I I'm....GONE!" Ok, here we go. Become Old Link and longshot to the window in the windmill. Fly the cucco out the window. Do Crooked Cartridge in the air. You and your friendly flying friend will disappear! The only trace will be feathers of the cucco. It's cool. You'll have to restart the N64.

Four Glitches by JS Zelda: 1.) Ride Epona into Lon Lon Ranch as swordless Link. Equip the ocarina to a C button. Remember how you jumped a fence to escape the ranch when you first won Epona? Well, start riding up to one using carrots for speed. As you approach, press the ocarina and stop playing. Link will detach from Epona and she will jump the fence without him. It should work as long as you press the C button when you're still on the ground. So, once you've done that, Epona will be walking in the sky. Press A to mount Epona and the cimena scene with them jumping the fence will play and leave you in Hyrule Field as usual.

2.) Did you know that the hover boots don't glow (I think they might not even let you hover, but I couldn't tell) when you detach from Epona as swordless Link?

3.) If you detach from Epona as swordless Link, equip the Zora tunic and iron boots, go to the bottom of a lake, and press A to remount, the voice will be muffled.

4.) At twilight (just before night), as swordless Link (of course), when you play the Song of Storms during the obstacle course, it won't be purple haze- instead it will be a brownish and red color and the ground looks like sky.

Nancy Dzierzesky Found: YOU NEED THE BIGGORONS SWORD TO DO THIS TRICKFirst go to the fishing pond and pay to fish. Then slip on the hoverboots and run on to the water and quickly cast. (NO THIS IS NOT THE SWORDLESS LINK TRICK! Well it is but I am typing that because if someone does not know this PART of the stufff that u need to do) then press Z a couple of times so you can adjust the view to see link. then run to the door and leave (Note: You have STOLEN THE FISHING ROD!) then go to the scarecrow and cast into the water and link will sit there like he is fishing (Also: the fishing rod is invisible) then save and reset the game. This is why you need the biggorons sword. DO NOT PRESS B AND PULL OUT THE MASTER SWORD BECAUSE A DEKU STICK WILL GO ON THE B BUTTON AT THE TOP OF THE SCREEN AND YOUR GAME WILL FREEZE. Now you know when you press start the master sword won't be there. Go to where gannon hits the master sword out of your hands- wait! the master sword wasn't on the equipment! how could this be? Press start and look at your equipment quickly- OH MY GOD! IT IS THERE BUT IT IS ALSO SITTING BY ZELDA! Equip it and now you can see one master sword here- and one on the other side of the screen!

Video Gamer X thanks all these gamers for taking the time to find all these gliches and tricks in the game. Some of these are really bizzare and cool. There's always another Glitch and another trick just waiting to be found. They're out there hiding, it takes slick gamers like YOU to find 'em and report 'em. If for some reason you sent me a glitch or trick and don't see it here then resend it and I will put it up for everyone to see.

Back to the Odyssey of Hyrule
