Book of Mudora (ZLTTP): , n, - an ancent book containing text from an early period of Hyrule's history. Written by ancient sages it chronicles the Genesis of Hyrule, the division of dimensions between Golden Land and Light World, the period of the Imprisoning War, and the Legend of the Triforce. It also include translations of ancient runes, monoliths, and scrolls many of which have been lost though time and natural decay. Boomerang (LOZ, ZLTTP, ZLA, Z64): \boo-mur-rang\, n, - a throwing weapon that returns to it's wielder. Boomerangs have the ability to stun certain enemies on contact. There was a time when a great fairy would add magic to the weapon turning it a ruby-red color, but the location of the fairy has fallen into the mists of time. Bot (Z2AOL): \bot\, n, - a small gelatinous creature with two eyespots. No one knows where they originated from but they were found thoughout Hyrule in on place or another. Catyclism's Eve (ZLTTP): \cat-uh-cliz-umz eev\, n, - a time when bad events transpire in Hyrule that prompt intervention by the Legandary Hero, Link, decended by bloodline from the first knight to bear the same name. Code of the Cucco (VGX): - if any cucoo is fallen by mischivious hand thou brethren shall come to thy aid to punish thy agressor Cucoo (ZLTTP, ZLA, Z64,): \coo-coo\ a semi-flightless chickenlike bird that inhabits the towns and farms of Hyrule. Some people have been known to have been turned into cucoos. Death Mountain (omni): n, - originally the term was applied to a semi-dormant volcano just north of Old Hyrule but later became appled to the entire range of mountains. Death Mountain contains a network of caves that connect to various clearings and ridges in the rock-face. It is a treacherous place where those ill-equiped will meet death at the hands of it's indigeonous lifeforms or landslides. Deku Stick (Z64): \deck-oo stik\, n, - a part of the great Deku Tree, approximately a meter in length, but rather brittle. Very flammable. Din (Z64):\din\, n, - Goddess of Power and co-creator of the Triforce. Creative force that shaped and formed that the land of Hyrule from a formless waste. Representative color is Red, stone - Ruby, element - Fire. Epona (Z64): \e-pone-ah\, n, - During the years of the Imprisoning War it is rumored that the Legendary Knight (Hero of Time) rode atop a stallion bearing this name. It is said that Epona could run like the wind. The horse most likely originated from the early period's Lon Lon Ranch. Farore (Z64): \fuh-roar-ay\, n, - Goddess of Courage, and co-creative force behind the Triforce of Power. Representative color is yellow or green, - stone Emerald, element - Earth. Ganon (omni): \gan-on\, n, - Once a man, Ganondorf, from a race of people called Gerudos, he is an entity that manifests himself as a pig-like creature from a dimension called the "Dark World". His sole inclination is to gain control of the entire Triforce in order to remanifest himself into the light world and usher in an age of choas and domination over Hyrule. Every Hundred years the barrier between his world and the world of light is weakened and on Catyclism's Eve his power is stongest. Ganon has the inate ability to manipulate Wizards who practace evil magic into doing his bidding. He has a strong lust to destroy the bloodline that continually vanquishes him in past generations, this bloodline is that of one, Link, and a princess Zelda. Ganon's manifestations have brought with them periods of darkness and dispair for Hyrule, and these only ended when Legendary Knight summoned by the guardian of the Triforce, Princess Zelda Ganondorf (Z64): \gan-on-doorf\, n, - born as the only male in the Feminine race of Gerudo, he is a prince of thieves. His ultimate desire was to obtain the legendary Triforce and rule Hyrule. In the time of the Imprisioning War he managed to steal the Triforce of Power from the Golden Land (archaic: Sacred Realm) and bring a time period of ruination and dispair for the fledgling territory of Hyrule. His tyranny was overthown by the "Legendary Hero of Time" and he was entrapped within a hidden annex of the Golden Land called the "Dark World" by seven powerful Sages. Ganondorf's insaciable desire for ultimate control and the manifestation of that desire enabled by the Triforce of Power distorted his consciousness to become the entity Ganon. Goron (Z64): \goor-on\, n, - during the early periods there were a race of creatures that inhabited the caves of Death Mountain called the Gorons. They consumed rocks and stones as their food and were led by a tribal leader named Darunia. At one time Ganondorf ressurected the arch Nemesis of the Goron's, a beast called Volvagia and attempted to commit genocide of the entire race. With the aid of Darunia and the Legendary Hero of Time Volvagia was defeated and peace returned to the Gorons. The Gorons seemed to have mysterously vanished through history, most likely just dying out due to lack of fresh rocks or natural selection. Hyrule (omni): \hi-rool\, n, - the mythical land of the Zelda games. The System of Government is a monarchy. Hyrule has many distinct features like Death Mountain, Hyrule Plains, Lake Hylia, and The Lost Woods. During the early days of it's founding Hyrule was a small territory covering an area on the south end of a land mass that bordered the ocean to the south and east, and the entire Death Mountain Range to the north and west. It's main population center was a town called Kakariko that was later destroyed and rebuilt. Hyrule Castle was also destroyed and rebuilt on several occasions. As centuries passed settlers traveled beyond the threacherous peaks of the Death Mountain Range and established colonies and towns throughout the continent. Many of these towns were conected by causeways that became safe route of travel for citizens, strayers from the road found themselves attacked by monsters. Imprisoning War, The (ZLTTP): \im-priz-on-ing war\, n, - a early Hyrulian period when Ganondorf rose to power by stealing the Triforce of Power, overthrowing the King, and ushering in a 7 year period of choas for Hyrule, blighting the land with dispair. Many of the King's knights tried to defeat Ganondorf, but all attempts failed until the Legendary Hero of Time appeared to dispel Ganon's curses from the Neolithic Temples. During this time Princess Zelda went into hiding with her nursemaid Impa, and aided the Hero of Time in his quest to save Hyrule. She also proved to be the seventh of a group of individuals called Sages (Wise Men). Ultimately, it was the seven sages that imprisioned Ganondorf (who became Ganon at this time) into his dimension of the Sacred Realm (Golden Land). He forever remains sealed into his dimension of hate and evil called the Dark World. Iron Knuckle (Z2AOL, Z64)\i-urn nuck-ul\, n, - another one of Ganon's minions of terror. Recognised by a clanking and scraping of metal, Iron Knuckles are a formidable foe if not prepared. Some wield large axes while other have swords or ride atop blue horses. Jabu-Jabu (Z64): \jaboo-jaboo\, n, - Fish god and guardian of the Zora's. Resides in Zora's Fountian. Little is known about what happened to Jabu-Jabu after the Imprisoning War. Some speculate that the great old fish simply died or returned to the great ocean. Kaepora Gaebora (Z64): \kay-poor-ah gay-boor-ah\, n, - a large enchanted owl that inhabits Hyrule. Very little is actually known or written about this strange owl. It seems that the mysterious Sheikah knew more about him than anyone else. According to legend he is a reincarnation of an ancient sage that aided The Legendary Hero of Time during the time period of the imprisoning war. Rauru seems to have some relation to the owl, but history and ancient texts refute this. Keese (omni):\keess\, n, - these bats inhabit the caves and dungeons of Hyrule. Some can catch on fire or be icy cold. Kokiri (Z64): \koh-kir-ee\, n, - a magical race of children who only live within the depths of the Kokiri Forest and guarded by the spirit of the forest the Great Deku Tree. All Kokiri have guardian fairies that accompany them wherever they go. No kokiri can leave the forest by decree of the Deku Tree. This ensures their safety. Oddly enough the Kokiri mysteriously disappeared, some say that a boy who played a flute to animals in a sheltered grove just southeast of rebuilt Kakariko Village during the time of the "Agahnim Incident" was the last remaining Kokiri but there was never any proof of this. Like-Likes (Z64): ,n, - a creature with a scolix that sucks a vicim inside of a large digestive tract where garments as well as shields are consumed. Most often found in the cool damp enviroments of sewers and dungeons. Master Sword (Z64, ZLTTP): ,n, - a magical sword endowed with the ability to purge evil, it has been the weapon of the Legendary Hero since the period of the Imprisioning War. There is no record of it origin or it's forger, but it is believed that the Master Sword may have been crafted by the goddesses themselves. It is made of an adamantine unbreakable metal and on the hilt a golden Triforce is emblazoned. The metal of the Master Sword contains magical properties that allow it to expell charges of energy when the Legendary Knight concentrates. The master sword has been placed in various locations around Hyrule hidden from view. The Legendary Hero, in anticipation for a re-emergance of Ganon places it in a sacred or holy place where his decendants can retrieve it to vanquish his evil. Mido (Z2AOL, Z64): \my-doh\ , n, 1. a costal port town in the eastern continent. 2. Perhaps the name of the founder of the town. Some say he was a Kokiri that ended up turning into a man when he left enchanted forest of the Deku Tree. He was said to have a jealous and suspicious disposition. Moblin (omni): \mob-lin\, n, - one of Ganon's cursed minions. A piglike beast often carrying a spear. Moon Pearl (ZLTTP): \moon pur-al\, n, - a iridescent spherical object that endow the bearer with the ability to retain true form within the Dark World. The only known specimen existed at the top of the Tower of Hera built sometime after the Imprisoning War on Death Mountian. Nabooru (Z2AOL, Z64): \nah-boor-rew\, n , - 1. A town surrounded by grassland on the large western island. 2 The name of the Sage of Spirit. Nabooru belonged to a race of theives called the Gerudo. She was second in command to Ganondorf but despised his wicked ways of attaining power. She attempted to steal the Silver Gauntlets from the Desert Colossus in order to overthrow Ganondorf, but this was captured by the Sisters Twinrova and put under an evil spell. The spell was only broken by the Legendary Hero of Time when he vanquished Twinrova and obtained the Silver Gauntlets. Ocarina (Z64): \oh-kah-reen-ah\ or \ah-kah-reen-ah\, n, - a flutelike instrament that is played by blowing air through a mouthpiece where pitch is changed by placing fingers over stagered holes. In Zelda 64 if you press "Z" or "R" you can change the pitch of the Ocarina. Poe (Z64):, n, - ghosts that haunt Hyrule. In fact due to the enchanted nature of the land, many poes inhabit Hyrule, lost between dimensions of light and dark. Some are friend while others just want to be left alone. It's best not to overturn the graves in Hyrule or the Poes might come out and become your worst nightmare. Rupee (omni): \roo-pee\, n, - the unit of currency of Hyrule. Types of Rupees:
Ruto (Z2AOL) & (Z64): \roo-toe\, n, - 1. a sheltered town at the end of a mountain path where a trophy was stolen. 2. - the name of the Sage of Water. Sahasralah (ZLTTP) Saria (Z2AOL, Z64): \sar-ee-ah\, n, - 1. a large river town north of the Death Mountain Range and Southwest of Mido. 2. the name of ancient Sage of Forest who aided the Legendary Hero of Time during the time of the Imprisoning War. Saria, a green haired Kokiri, maintained an affinity for the young knight even though she was but a child. It is unknown what happened to Saria after this timeframe but perhaps it was she that founded the river town. Sheikah (Z64): \sheek-ah\, n, - Little is known about the origin of the Sheikah. They seemed to have been an evolutionary offshoot of the Hylian race. They were a robust warrior species who were often seen guarding Hyrule Castle during the early periods prior to the Imprisioning War. They were the founders of the first Kakariko Village. Sheikah developed a messaging system called "Gossip Stones" that with an artifact called the Mask of Truth a bearer could understand a hidden message within the stones. These ancient runes withered away with time. The Symbol of the Sheikah is an eye with a teardrop coming from the bottom. According to legend they were the protectors of the royal family and the only remaining Sheikah, Impa, has for ages been a body guard for the incarnations of Princess Zelda. She become her voice to the Legendary Hero, Link, in times of distress. It is not known how old Impa is, but some say she is many thousands of years old. No one knows for sure if the Sheikah have truly vanished from the face of Hyrule, but some think that there is a far continent where the Sheikah thrive in paradise with advanced technology far ahead of the Hylians. Specticle Rock (ZLTTP): \speck-ta-cul rok\, n, - An odd formation on death mountain that looks like a pair of glasses. Often seen with a mysterious object shaped like a heart on it's summit. Staffos (omni): \staff-oss\, n, - One of Ganon's Evil minions, a skeleton that wields a sword and shield. Can not be destroyed by normal means, bodily fragments must be pulverized into microscopic paricles or it will reform and continue it's attack. The best item to vanquish a staffos completly is an incendiary device such as a bomb. Triforce (omni): \tri-forss\, n, - An ancient relic that contains the essenses of the three goddesses of wisdom, courage, and power, respectively, that created Hyrule. It holds within it the ability to manifest the desires and wishes of one who merges or touches it. Only a very select few have seen the triforce of know of it's wherabouts. Zelda (omni): \zell-dah, zell-duh\, n, - 1. the name of a series of video games produced by a company called Nintendo in the years of (release year-dates not © dates) 1987, 1988, 1992, 1993, 1998 and developed by a man named Shigeru Miyamoto. 2. the name of the princess of Hyrule. She is catylist for the Legendary Knight's action in all time periods of Hyrulian History. She is decended by bloodline as the reincarnation of her prior lives. She is the keeper of the Triforce of wisdom, telepath, and embodiment of holiness and purity.
