Shortly after I completed Zelda back in November of '98 I challenged gamers to find any of these things listed below. Subsequently I recieved all kinds of crazy letters about this. Tons of bogus rumors about the Triforce, stories that the Pyramid in the Haunted Wasteland leading to a whole new temple. You name it, I got it. Believe it or not some of these tricks/oddities were found or created by gamers out there, especially with the GameShark. For instance you CAN get into Gerudo Valley as Young Link using the "MoonJump" code where you will find an extra heart piece and the Odd Mushroom. (How odd indeed) Also the Mysterious Pyramid proved to be just a game error using the same code. There is also a GameShark code that allows you to play as Dark Link and access things like Debug mode and different colored Tunics. The Blue Fairy white winged Fairy that appeared in Zelda 64 Commercials during October thru December of 1998 seems to have been removed permanantly from the game. Nintendo even stated this officially both on their website and in their illustrious "Nintendo Power" magazine. No one, ever found the Triforce. There have been so many rumors and stories about "finding the Triforce" I would have to say that I have recieved at least a few thousand letters on this topic since was was first debated on the internet at this website back in December of 1998. I thorough investigation has been done, all the way down to decompiling the cart and it was never meant to be. Common sense would dicatate that looking at the chain of events in the storyline getting the Triforce would really screw things up. Having played Zelda over and over, I haven't given up on this game's potential to be a gold mine for possible secrets that are waiting for some lucky or damn smart gamer to crack. With classic secrets so hidden, like Chris Houlihan's blue rupee room from Link to the Past, there's bound to be something really special that nobody has found yet. The Gold Skulltula thing was an ultimate bummer, but I know that there's got to be more. Has anyone had an ending somehow different from the one everyone seems to be getting? Has anyone beat the game without dying once? (Video Gamer X has done that in LTTP and is working on Z64) The following is my and probably everybody else's most wanted tricks. GETTING THE TRIFORCE - On Link's quest status you will notice that there is a Triforce in the center, and if you also notice as you complete dungeons areas for the medallions will fill in, but the triforce, even if you complete the game, never fills in. Now remember that screenshot on The Odyssey of Hyrule main page? You follow my drift here...It has to be in the game somewhere folks, and it's going to take a savvy gamer to find it. Now, as you play the game, you will learn that Ganon somehow gets a hold of the Triforce of Power after Link falls into his stasis for 7 years. Suppose, if as a kid, it is possible to get the Triforce of Power back from Ganon. I think this has something to do with Gerudo, because remember Ganon is a Gerudo and after you get all the Spiritual Stones, he will gallop in that direction after Zelda and Impa. Suppose you defeat Ganon before he gets the triforce of power. That would mean, the three sections of the triforce would never be broken. But then again, what would be the point of getting all the Medallions. Maybe this lies somehow at the end of the game between fights with Ganon. Instead of following Zelda, try a different route, maybe you can get to the Triforce of Power before Ganon takes it with him. I will, and everybody else should work on this. The Triforce is the most important part of Zelda, and to see it incomplete is Sacrilage. Update 6/12/2000, I've kind of never updated this section so I keep getting readers who come here and think that these are still under investigation. It has been proven through entensive research for well over a year now by gamers, hackers, and even Nintendo themselves that there is no obtainable item that LInk can add to his quest status called the Triforce. The storyline of the game shows that it's impossible for link to get the entire triforce because it's essense is broken into the three peices within Zelda, Ganondorf, and Link. Every gamer who has ever played Zelda 64 has always had the triforce, and it's on link's hand as well. Playing as Sheik - Now I know this one is a tall order, but there's no reason why this is impossible. He has similar animated movements as Link, but then again we know that Sheik is actually Zelda (oops, sorry for the spoiler) so you would actually be playing as Zelda, which would be 10 times as awesome. (Imagine Adult Zelda wielding a sword and sheild, it's better than Xena!) I kind of have my doubts on this one, but anything's possible. Update 6/12/2000, you can never play as Sheik, every hacker has decompiled the ROM of the game and found no ability to do this. It's impossible. Neat Idea, but impossible. Temper the Master Sword - Now I know there's a Biggoron's Sword which is stronger than the Master Sword, but maybe there's a way to temper the master sword to shoot energy when Link's hearts are full, like all the other Zelda games. Update 6/12/2000, you can never Temper the Master Sword. You can only do this in The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past for the Super Nintendo. Again this would be cool, but it's impossible. Getting into Gerudo as Young Link - Now here's one that looks possible. If you travel back in time via the Temple of Time and go to Gerudo the woman in white in front of the gate will shoo you off. If you put a mask on and approach her she will make a crude remark. If you put on the Gerudo Mask she will say it's a clever disguise but she still won't let you in, all this while even if you have the Membership Card on you quest status. You can even bomb the crates behind the fence with a Bombchu. The chicken on the other ledge doesn't quite make it to the other side of the ravine. There is a Gerudo at the bottom of the ravine that makes a comment, "How did you get down here? Might as well make the best of it." You may already know that there are secret chambers behind the waterfalls, but has anyone found a chamber that leads to a corridor that leads to the other side of the ravine. Video Gamer X tried everything and got stumped, and I hate being stumped. Update 6/12/2000, I determined a long time ago that you can enter Gerudo as young Link, with the Gameshark and the "MoonJump" code. Interestingly enough the guards will still throw you in the holding area, and you can get an extra heart piece and the Odd Mushroom in the Chest. There are a few discussions on this site elsewhere about this topic. The Mysterious Rock/Pyramid in the Haunted Wasteland - After you follow all the poles with the flags on them, you will come to an area where the ghost leads you to the Desert Colosus. If you face towards the east and play the Song of Storms the lightning will outline some pyramidal structure in the distance. If you approach it it will be larger, but if you get too close you will be returned to the beginning of the Haunted Wasteland. I have done everything to get to the strange thing in the desert, and can't seem to get to it. Keep using the Song of Storms to make lightning to outline the thing and you'll see what I mean. I wonder what's over there? Update 6/12/2000, The mysterious pyramid proved to be absolutely nothing when I used the gameshark for the first time. I used the MoonJump code to prevent myself from being sent back to the beginning of the Haunted Wasteland and I discovered the Pyramid was nothing more than an upturned group of polygons/ground. It's a mirage. Play as Dark Link/ Wire Frame Link - This goes in the category of "Yeah Right!" but maybe someone with a gameshark or some game cheat device can find this one. It would be kind of neat. Update 6/12/2000, No one's found the Gameshark code to remove all the textures from the surfaces of the Polygons of Link's body, but it would still be a neat code to get. I think there is a gameshark code where you can play as a darkened version of Link. More Than 500 Rupees - In Link to the Past he could hold 999 rupees, maybe the same holds true for Zelda 64, but it requires finding another hidden wallet. This trick wouldn't be that great since rupees aren't used too much in this game, but at least it would give us a sense of closure. Update 6/12/2000, There is no hidden wallet, but you can use the Gameshark to modify the Rupee limitation greater than 500 for example to 999. Do More With The Owl - As you know this guy bolts after the Spirit Temple. Where does he go? He seems to play a rather strange role in this game, and I can't quite put my finger on it. Update 6/12/2000, The Owl does absolutely nothing else than guide you though the early parts of the game and appears now and then during the plot. You can't see him or talk to him anywhere else than what you already know about when you play the game from beginning to end. ...And, NO, the Owl is not the Sage of Light Rauru. If the programmers really intended for that to be so then they really messed up the translation when it was translated to english when they used the term "reincarnated" at the Gossip Stone. No more discussion needed on this, thank you. Finding the Elusive Blue Fairy - If you have seen the commercial for Zelda 64 you will notice that there is an image of a great blue fairy different from the ones in the game. There is also a picture of it on the main index page of The Odyssey of Hyrule. I personally have not discovered this fairy, and think it may have been taken out of the game. But you never know. That commercial was for the US/english version of the game, so there should be no deviation from what we are actually playing. I would like to see that Fairy and find out what she does. Update 6/12/2000, the blue fairy from the commercials that Aired that November of 1998 was taken out before the release of the game in favor of the Go Go booted, leopard skinned, big lipped ones. It is impossible to see the Blue Fairy, but...there is hope with the Beta Quest. New cutscenes have been found as in the Gameshark Blowout. Email Me if you figure the top one out. I will devote a page just for you and how you figured it out. I will even send you a Zelda: The Ocarina of Time action figure of you're choice for getting it. Good Luck! |
