Zephyr Comments First:
Despite what people said when the new celshaded graphics were introduced, I would still like to purchase Wind Waker. Heck, I've already gotten a preorder for it (as well as Master Quest, which I think is a great game), and played a demo at a store. From the little bit that I've experienced, Wind Waker is like Ocarina of Time with better graphics and the essence of the classics. The enemies that you get to fight are moblins, and when you kill those moblins, they vanish in a cloud of purple smoke (just like in Link to the Past). Although, when it was time to go, I flung Link off of the cliff and into the lava pit to hear the dying sound effects. They remained virtually unchanged from Ocarina and Majora's Mask. I don't believe that the graphics will be a major problem in the game. As soon as you start to play it, the graphics sort of just melt away and you get sucked into the entire thing. Sadly, the demo is only for about five minutes, so I was sad when I had to put it down. The animation is also very smooth and I saw very few (if any) graphical glitches.
With my five minute experience with this game aside, I can begin to explain how dang excited I am to own it! I understand that some people are skeptical about the new look, but that shouldn't be a reason not to be anxious to play it. I barely scratched the surface of the game, and it was extremely good. To those of us that have yet to play it, I can only say this: If you threw all of the best parts of every Zelda game into a blender, cel-shaded graphics, and a giant vulture, you would get Wind Waker. I felt like I was playing all of the Zeldas at once, with something new to offer. This game is a fresh breath of air for the series, and it certainly didn't end the Zelda legacy.
Enough about the good parts of Waker, now to the cons. First of all, let me say, Link has a sister? I mean, it's all right that his mom's there, but... What? His grandma's there? That just doesn't feel right. What happened to his parents? How about his uncle? Well, anyway, the storyline's kinda stupid from there as far as I can tell. (Don't want any spoilers in here, now do we?) What of the Master Sword? I hope that they didn't leave that out. You're supposed to get your swords from some old man. You probably wouldn't get the Blade of Evil's Bane from an old geezer, would you?
There you have it, the pros and cons of Waker. There are more good things than bad in this new game, and it looks like Nintendo's tropical island theme is going to be very sucessful and will produce many good games in the future that will be later looked upon as loved classics.
Redbreegull Makes Known: Dear VideoGamerX,
Like most Zelda fans, I had my doubts about Wind Waker at first. In fact, I was so opposed to the cel shaded graphics that I started one of many petetions against it floating around the net. Over time I accepted the graphics and decided to pre-order the game. After all, it was still Zelda, and although I'm sorry to say that I havn't been a fan since the original (I wasn't born then!) I still enjoy the compelling fantasy. Above all else, I enjoy the fact that the Zelda games are done almost in the fashion of a book or movie, with plot twists and turns around every corner. Wind Waker looks to be the most plot dependant Zelda game yet, and I always look forward to a compelling story.
Anyway, I pre-ordered it, and got my free copy of Ocarina of Time: Master's Quest. The first thing I did was watch the Wi...wait, that's wrong. The first thing I did was listen to the classic Theme to Zelda (never sounded better!). Then I watched the Wind Waker preview. As I watched Link swing on ropes and face off against battle-hardened foes, I began to think to myself, "This game won't be so bad after all!" The way that the character's express emotions is truly amazing. I was hoping to catch a glimpse of Ganondorf, but he seems to have snuck himself out of the preview.
Which brings up another subject: The Dark Lord himself. As we all know, Ganondorf turned himself into (or was transformed maybe by hate), into Ganon. His resurection in the Oracle duology was the first chronological hint that being sealed into the Dark World would not conquer him forever. I didn't expect to see him back in Wind Waker, because I had only heard about the giant bird so far. When I heard that Ganon(dorf?) would return for his third bout with Link in the new game, I was excited. There's nothing more thrilling in a series of books/movies/video games than the return of a thought-long-dead nemesis. And what diqbolical scheme does the Black Warrior have in store this time? Abducting all the blonde girls in Hyrule in hopes of capturing Zelda? Tisk tisk tisk. Seems we'll have to deal with him, as usual.
The plot of Wind Waker is obviously very dynamic, which as I have stated, is key for a great Zelda game. It looks like the events in this story will unfold around Link, sucking him into deeper problems than he bargained for fairly fast. I enjoyed the story line of Ocarina of Time very much, but it was very...primal. No unfolding story really. Well, there was that time travel thing, but the title kind of suggests it. My point being that in Ocarina of Time, Link learns everything about his quest from the Great Deku Tree and Zelda, both very early in the game. I'm hoping for more from Wind Waker. I don't want a game where if I get stuck on a boss, I throw down the controller and say "I'll play again later." I want a game that makes me say "I have to beat this boss NOW! If I don't, I'll never save Aryll!
Another thing I'm very much looking forward to are references to Ocarina of Time events, mainly the Imprisoning War (was that the real name of Link's crusade against Ganondorf, or was it dubbed by players?). The most frusterating thing about the Zelda series is that continuity is scarce, and Miyamoto doesn't show any real interest in telling us how many reincarnations Link and Zelda go through. This is one reason that I have enjoyed the past four Zelda games so much. Ocarina of Time, Majora's Mask, Oracle of Seasons, and Oracle of Ages are all obviously connected, and all obviously feature the same Link and Zelda. Perhaps Wind Waker will serve as a bridge between the newer Zeldas (telling of Hyrule's earlier times) and the older Zeldas (featuring what appears to be the end of the Legend of Zelda, with the downfall of Ganon and his minions). And since I don't want the Zelda series to end anytime soon, I'm all up for Nintendo making more games featuring this second incarnation of Link. And now that I'm used to the cel shaded graphics, I wouldn't mind more games with those either.
I am worried that Nintendo is running out of places to go with the series, however. We've seen Ganon's rise (Ocarina of Time) and his fall (Legend of Zelda, Adventure of Link) so the only thing left to do really is to keep sticking chapters in between. Link and Zelda's obvious purpose is to protect the Triforce. So after Ganon is ultimately thrown down, there really would be no need for any more incarnations of Link or Zelda. Right now I'm mainly focusing on Wind Waker though.
All in all, I'm amazed by what this game looks to be. I think it is highly possible that it might surpass Ocarina of Time and Link to the Past as my favorite Zelda game. Well, we'll just have to wait and find out!
[email protected] Says: Hello Video Gamer X! My Wind Waker impression was when the video's first came out at E3 I was kind of shocked cause who doesn't want to play a game like the demo at spaceworld. After watching the first video a few times and viewing some screens of them i quickly dismissed any doubts of this game blowing. I recently purchased the game in Japan and I am in the last dungeon and all I have to say is HOLY SH*T, this game competes with Ocarina of time the gameplay rules and the graphics quickly grow on you so you forget all about that. Links new faces he makes to will give you a laugh some times like when he is exausted he looks like he is burnt out. Even though I love this game to death I still can't wait to play a game with the demo at spaceworlds graphics. Maybe the next zelda gamecube will be what we all wanted, but until then everyone will like this game alot.
[email protected] Dear Video Gamer X,
At first, I didn't want to get The Wind Waker, because of it's cell-shaded graphics. But, Later I was browsing the Internet, and they were saying that It would be an okay game, because of what they showed at last years show. So, in February, I pre-ordered the new Zelda. It cam with a special deal, free Z64 Master Quest (for Gamecube), and a Ocarina Of Time for Gamecube, oh and of course, The Wind Waker. I was so excited, that I cannot sleep at night.
I had also heard that there would REALLY BE A TRIFORCE in the game, I just hope that Nintendo isn't lying again! The Master Quest is the 64DD version that didn't previously arrive in the U.S.A. I JUST COULDN"T WAIT!!!!!!!!!!
PK Explains: I cant wait for the Wind Waker to come out. At first, i didnt think the new
style suited a "serious" game such as Zelda, but as soon as I saw it in
action, I realised that it worked. I live in the UK, so I have to wait until
the 3rd of May to play it! Thats 2 whole months! I really hope the Master
Quest comes with the game in the UK, as I would love to replay an updated
version of The Orcarina of Time, without having to use the awkward N64
controller. The only thing I dont like about the Zelda games, is the fact
that there are several "different" Links and Zeldas, whats all that about?
Anyway, I cant wait for the Wind Waker to be released, I would go for a US
import, but I dont really want to tamper with my 'cube. I think this is going
to be the best Zelda yet, even beating OOT. I didnt think it would be that
good at first, but now I hear it is going to have a certain Dark Lord in it,
I want it more than ever.
Kerc Advises: Ok, I REALLY hate the cel-shaded thing and all, but I'll still buy it. I hope that it's not too late to preorder it so i can get Master Quest too, I've heard the graphics haven't changed a bit but oh well! As one of the biggest Zelda Fans (at least that's what all my friends say, i mean, c'mon, I am sooooo crazy about Zelda that I talk about it everywhere; the dinner table, email people nonstop about it, trying to prove to people that Fox Mcloud sucks and Link rules, etc) I think that even if you hate the graphics, every Legend of Zelda lover will, actually SHOULD buy it. I mean, all day I look on the internet for ratings and the Wind Waker got 94 pts out of 100, 4 1/2 stars out of 5 and so on. I (never played it...) think it will be a wonderful, suprising shock to those who buy it and see how good it really is!
RingbearerEowyn Writes: I just wanted to say that I'm excited that a new Zelda game is finally coming out after so much waiting, and don't be fooled about the graphics. The commercials and ads of the game may look corny, but when you experience the game for yourself, you'll believe me when I say it:this game is going to be incredible and successful beyond Nintendo's wildest dreams.I played a preview of a dungeon room ,and it did to me what every other Zelda game always did.It drew me in,it sucked me into the dungeon itself,it made me feel like I was really in there, fighting the bad guys with style. The graphics, when you really see them for the first time, are just unbelievable.Incredible....so real it was unreal. And it was more than just the graphics.Link had so many styles of fighting and the ability to use them with swiftness and skill.I was done with the baddies in seven seconds. It was so cool!I didn't have much anticipation for the Wind Waker, either, until I played the sample game.I want it so bad ,now that I've played it.It kind of sucks you into a blackhole of possibility. This is the kind of game that makes you stare at the screen for hours on end,and you don't just play it once and put it in the game box to be forgotten and collect dust.I'm going to buy it on the day we get out of school,April 4th.I'm telling you, people, this is going to be one heck of a game, and no game ever made or ever will be made in the next century can compare with it.The people who play it once and never forget it are the true Zelda fans.
Bryant Mudd Points Out: Hey VGX.
I'm not going to type a really long analysis on Wind Waker, I'm just going
to get to the facts...
Its very nice to see that you have come around and have seen how good Wind
Waker truly is. I am extremely pumped for this game, each day, my excitement
doubles. I especially like the sea travelling concept, that's just going to
make the game awesome. I also like the idea of Link having a family, I think
that's cool.
I played the demo for about one or two minutes at EB and I already think
that its better than Ocarina of Time, I can't wait til I get it in the mail!
Rebecca Lyall Writes: I bet the new game will be cool. I'm not biased by graphics. I think if the music and gameplay is good, it'll be fine. According to Nintendo Power Link's eyes are really sweet/cool. Will I try it? Yes! I also havent got the bonus disc...blah. I'm gonna buy it on ebay.
I doubt there will be as many glitches, but those are aftergame fun, so... let the journey begin! (I know thats cheesy)
PJDJ Communicates: First of all, I would like to say that I am also on the opposing side of the
new cel-shading style appearing in The Wind Waker. I, to say the least,
experienced a tremendous level of excitement when I first saw the Zelda demo
at Spaceworld 2000. Was I disappointed when I heard of Zelda going Celda? You
bet I was. I remained skeptical until the day I pre-ordered it. In fact, I
still kind of am.
As each day passes, I see more screen shots and I even got to play the demo
at Crossgates mall in Albany, NY. Slowly, I'm starting to realize how the
Cel-Shading technique is working to bring together the environment of the
game into one lush atmosphere where everything seems to click and work. Don't
get me wrong, I would have preferred a CGI, fully 3D rendered Zelda any day
of the week, but as far as the Wind Waker goes, yeah, I'll buy it and I'll
like it too.
Now, for people who feel that this game is "getting back to the roots" let me
say this... Think back to your days playing NES and SNES. Remember how
limited those machines where? These "cartoons" graphics where the best, most
realistic graphics those things could push out! In a sense, Nintendo is
backtracking on the road of progress by looking for more nostalgic graphics.
In theory, there is no reason why they can't push for a realistic Hyrule
while keeping the feel of Zelda classical.
I don't think we've seen the last of Zelda on the GameCube. Despite
Nintendo's normal trend of putting their own interests in front of the gaming
community's feelings, lately, I've noticed that they are becoming more and
more flexible with the wishes of the masses (fear of losing the market
perhaps)? There is no doubt in my mind that there will be a day where we see
Link in his full 3D splendor where he completely resembles a real person by
the incredible powers of future video game consoles and where he might even
resemble that blonde haired kid down the street because the graphics are so
bad ass. However, until that day comes, we have Wind Waker. Lets play it, I'm
sure we'll like it, I already know I do and I believe myself to be one of the
biggest skeptics on the issue of the graphics I've seen thus far.
Just one final note on people who say that graphics don't make the game. I
would say yes and no on this topic. While graphics do not determine directly
how fun a game is to play, you must also consider this. You may have a game
that has relatively good game play, but if it looks terrible, it's not going
to have that extra oomph that makes it a great hit as opposed to a mediocre
game that people will soon forget. There have also been games that are the
exact opposite. They look breath taking yet they are absolutely no fun to
play what so ever. I do believe that if a game has great game play and
graphics that seem to work overall to give a real feel (not in terms of how
they look but a real feel as in, when the wind blows, hair moves and so do
leaves and grass, etc.) the game will be great. It's all part of the
experience, if you feel that you are truly being sucked in by the game and
for a brief moment you believe you are Link of Hyrule, than the game has done
it's job. For all it's purpose, I believe The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker
has done just that.
Thanks for letting me share,
A Barret Explains: I know the first thing people think of when they see The Wind Waker are
the graphics. I didn't like them at first either, but people, get used to
it, don't sit around being babies. Besides, S.M. said that they were trying
the darker more realistic graphics for the next game. This game is good,
I've played the demo, and I even got to use the enemies weapons, which was
one of my high anticipations. (I can't wait to get my hands on those Iron
Knuckles Axes). Well, people, all I'm saying is lighten up, the game looks
great and you get to see Link without his tunic, which is a highlight.
Trust me, this will probably be the best Zelda game yet.
Jet Linq Points Out: Hello VGX. I actually like the way it looks, celshading and stuff. Why do some people don't like it? It's more fluid and realistic in an unrealistic kind of way(huh?). I've finished the Master Quest and I still have two weeks for Windwaker to come out. I wished the bonus disk did not include the original Ocarina of Time because everyone will only want to play the Master Quest. They should have put Majora's Mask instead. Having the Master Quest and Majora's Mask in one disk would have been perfect.
Now back to my anticipation. The first thing that comes to my mind is the title; Windwaker. Sounds too much like wind breaker, eww. Another thing is water, water, WATER everywhere. I hate water because I can't even swin in real life. I hope I don't get sea sick playing this game. Maybe the 50 islands or so and the dungeons will make up for it. I know for sure that everytime I get on any shore, I will make Link kiss the ground. Playing this game might actually be therapeutic for me and cure my aquaphobia.
I finally got to see a demo version at Wal-Mart. I wanted to play it but this small kid wouldn't give it up. All he did was kept pressing the buttons. Come on now kid, move aside and watch a real master show you how to do it. I waited patiently for about 10 minutes and he's still pressing buttons. His father was giving me the evil looks as if I'm gonna hurt his boy. I got intimidated so I just turned around, called Epona and went home. Now more than ever, I want to play Zelda: The Wind Waker!!!
Keep up the good work VGX. First, The Oddysey of Hyrule. Then, The Oddity of Hyrule. And now, The Oceans of Hyrule, I meant, The Fairytale of Hyrule
Darth Gamer Writes: Greetings Video Gamer X.
First of all, I must compliment on your sites. Aside from Zelda Universe, I mainly visit your Zelda site.
Anyways, the Anticipation. Well, like Redbreegull, I was VERY disapointed in the cel shaded at first. It was like some freaky kid link. But after a while, a lot of site cruising, and a whole lot of talynal, I am very impressed with The wind Waker.
I am subscribed to GMR, which (soo far) it's three Issues all had Zelda. In the most anticipated games of 2003, Zelda was rated 18/50, which is not that bad. Especialy with Halo 2 as 1. Is issue two, it is in the front of the magazine. The first sentence is: There was an area in the origional Legend of Zelda, a nondescript stretch of beach on the eastern coast, where Link could hop on his trusty raft and collect another heart container sitting on a platform.
If that was realy all the High-seas adventuring, i can't believe nintendo didn't think of this sooner. Anyways, in issue 3, Zelda got 7 full pages. 2 was a reveiw, wich gave Zelda a 9/10. In it(this is taken exactly from the magazine) they state: As soon as you complete the regeneration of the master sword, you are sent on a quest to recover the eight missing shards of the fabled triforce which are buried somewhere in the water. But in order to find them, you need first the 8 triforce maps. And before you can find the Triforce maps, you need to find the map that tells you where the individual Triforce maps are located. We're not done: After finding each map, you still need to have them translated by Tingle (for no discrenable reason other than to justifiy the 5,000-ruppe-capacity wallet and see the strange man act like a freak). This will set you back about 400 rupees per map, and if you don't have enough cash, it's back to the boat.
That is a major con, and in every other reveiw I read it states somthing simmilar about sailing getting annoying at the end. Oh, and Redbreegull, Ganadorf is in the movie. At the part when you see that bird and the statue in the way. That statue is Ganadorf. Now for what I say.
In the begining, I totaly hated the idea of cell shading. It was just so, different. I mean, Link is so freaky. But in time, I apritiated cell shading. Though I am still not totaly convinced, I still won't complain. Also, in a demmo at Best buy, I played A demo for TWW. It was the best 3 seconds of my short and wasted life. The fighting is smooth, the attacks are great, and, well, it WAS three seconds, so I didn't do much. Ah well.
At neopets.com (Videogamerx, if you are a member of neopets, PLEASE give me your login name. We could be neofriends. Mine is soney272) I am in the guild The Best of Zelda and Link. In it there is a whole lot on The Wind Waker. There is even a poll that was if that pirate girl is realy Zelda. I put Maby, it could be a possobility. They realy look like eachother. Anyways, there is a lot of debating about the Cel shaded looks.
Well, that is all I can give. I know I didn't realy say anything, so here I go. In all, I'd give TWW a 9/10. A good game, but needs more dungeons, and night music.
Jetfrog Comments: I just know that this game is going to rock! Im pretty sure that in Japan they gave the game a perfect 10! Here in the US they gave the game a 10 10 10 9.9. So there you have it. Besides that I read somewhere that the map is going to be 20 times bigger than OoT!! That means that the game is like total realistic (in some ways) I don't want to give out any spoilers but there will be other races and such. Im just looking forward at playing it, beating it, going on VGX's site and doing cheats and codes, glitches (hehe)
Have you seen the movements and the facial expressions on Links face?!? WOW are they awesome!
Endulian Makes Known: When Nintendo revealed the Awe-inspiring Preview of Zelda for Gamecube at Spaceworld, the entire world stumbled at its magnificence. When Miyamoto unveiled the new cel-shaded look for the game many people lost faith in Zelda and perhaps even in Nintendo and I think all of those people should be ashamed of themselves. Every Zelda game that has been made before has been a truly astounding epic tale that has kept people captivated from start to finish and this new chapter will be no different, and I have no doubt of this. Although when people first saw the graphiic touch of windwaker it was not very appealing compared to what had already been shown before but once you put your hands on the controller and move this Link for the first time you wont want to stop because the flow of the game is truly astounding. The way things look really makes you think you are immersed in the land Hyrule and believe me, you wont want to leave. I know this because I played Windwaker at the touring Cube club convention. The Windwaker preview had many different modes you could choose from including: overworld, dungeon, stealth, and a sailing mode. Each mode was more astounding than the last.
Just when you think Nintendo can do nothing else to amaze you, they come out with the Windwaker pre-order offer which was the best thing that happened to me since the time I first guided Link through Kokiri forest in 1998. The Master Quest was an amazing addition to the Ocarina of Time legacy and I am overjoyed that they brought this game from Japan to America.
As a final note, i would just like to say that Windwaker will be one of Link's best adventures yet if not the very best. I feel deeply sorry for any immature person that does not buy this game because of the graphics because they will be missing out on a piece of true Hylian history.
Daedalus Anticipates: First off let me say your Zelda sites are amazing and I love the Odyssey of Hyrule. I cannot wait to get Wind Waker. I love the cell shading. i think it really makes the game better. The graphics may not be that which we saw at spaceworld, but they are awesome in their own way. There will be 50 islands to explore, with cities and towns. I have wanted this in a Zelda game for a long time: a real city. The gameplay is amazing, the graphics make the game a real-time adventure. Any true Zelda fan will see the glory of this game. Keep making your awsome Video game sites~
Dark Geminia Laments: Video Gamer X,
I am darkgeminia, and I would like to express my angst about how Miyamoto
shot Zelda and the rest of the series to hell.
I would like to say that all the Zelda games I've seen so far have been
mediocre, to outrageously meticulous. OoT demonstrated a good ambiance of an
evil force at work, but had a hint of childishness and playfulness. When
Link is a kid, rather any kid, would expect to see the sun smile and flowers
growing and not having a care in the world. 7 years later...Link is
challenged by demonic forces, maliciouus beings, and hellishly long temples.
That was OoT in a nutshell.
I remember way back when I got the 1st Zelda. I was in total awe when I
bought this game some decade ago. I was wandering throughout Hyrule, going
to all of the temples (where the hell did they get the idea of making the
1st temple look like a tree with its mouth open? Does this have any
relevance to The Great Deku Tree in OoT?). I beat the game, played the
second quest, and beat that too. It was a very fun game to say the least.
I personally think that titles such as Skies Of Arcadia, Grandia 2, Final
Fantasy 8, Metal Gear Solid 1 and 2, deserve more and more recognition than
Miyamoto's twisted works. Allow me to elaborate.
Everything was going pretty good for Zelda until Miyamoto found a child
inside of him. I believe he was losing children's audience, and going to the
adult gamers more. I have no problem with Link stabbing the you know what
outta you know who in the you know where. That got too gory and bloody for
any kid under the age of 12 to even look at, let alone appreciate. These
graphics may be the ground breaking cel shading, but I find it so hard to
believe that a feeling of malice and taint could be conveyed in a game such
as WW. For example, I thought Kingdom Hearts was going to be a really queer
game. I hate Disney.I played it, and fell in love with it, I should say.
Also, Skies Of Arcadia had its graphical flaws (seemingly enough since it
was ported form DC to GC), but that game had emotional storyline, and I
simply loved the feeling of watching Vyse kick the crap outta Galcian at
near end of the game. I loved the ship battles, everything. The reason I'm
talking about other games is that I compare them to this bullcrap that
Miyamoto calls a game. The storyline so far: Your sister's been captured by
a bird. You must walk the Yellow Brick Road and find the Tin Man, and he
will give you the Master Sword. That's like saying that in mid-game OoT,
Ganon says "I give up. You win, Link. Let's call it a day." I cannot find
the meaning, not in the graphics or storyline, how this game could be so
great. I used to be in a PSO clan, and they dissed me for being closed
minded. Technically, they're right. I am a closed minded person, but I can
say that I played the thing and I think it sucks. Many of my friends online
were 11 or 13. They were as if they were hypnotized by Miyamoto to buy
bullcrap that he calls a game. Everyone talks about how good the 'gameplay'
is. I talked with a senior at my high school about this. I wanted to know
how in God's name you could have gameplay with sacrificing storyline and
graphics. The gameplay is worthless. I was told what I thought. I would like
to know your opinion. I'm not saying I'm right, and I would like to see what
the hell people are thinking these days. I'm not dissing you, but Zelda in
particular. Zelda games have always been great, but this WW crap has got to
go. Thank you.
Justin Voel-Pel Adds: The year 2003 has finally come up and much has been said to prosper in
the technology field. In 2005, Russia and the U.S. are said to send out
a ship to explore Mars and it's enviorment, Time Warner is now able to
bring to the viewer control of the movies on cable television, aaand the
new Legend of Zelda is coming out soon. Now, let's ask ourselves what we
really want to see.
In the very late year of 2000, people wanted to see a change i the
video gaming world for the better. Nintendo issued its fans only a small
dose of it's new found power at Spaceworld. Screenshots and video clips
featured Luigi in a solo game, bounty hunter Samus Aran in an all new
Metroid hunt, and Link in a vicious sword fight against Ganondorf in an
upcoming Zelda adventure. All were brilliant pieces of work until
something happened.
Rumors began to spread about a clip that was not shown earlier to the
puplic eye. Many claimed that it was amazing, but still felt abstruse
about the criteria met for this project. The clip that was shown
featured the main character of Zelda in a much more child-like form.
Some could not identify that this was Link until the clip moved on into
a new sequence. It was different, yes, but it was Zelda. The new
technique commonly known as "cel-shading" became persuading to fans and
a change was quickly made.
Although it may have seem all too fast, It was no hastey decision. The
Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker was no quick project. A different turn
to captivate the eye shall be a valuable asset on the game's release.
This new game features basic Zelda gameplay with traditional voice
characterization with stunning visuals that not even the most of the
fastidious can ignore. A new more vivacious Link shall be included with
an in depth story line and more weaponry. Fans will also note that
Link's nemisis Ganon has made a triumphant return along with special 2
disc quest games from the Ocarina of Time for pre-ordered games. The
game is sure to break boundaries like its succeders.
Jennifer Puts Forth: Video Gamer X -
My first impressions of this game were negative, I must admit. I had
seen the screenshots from Spaceworld 2000 and was impressed as well as
excited. I liked the direction in which Miyamoto had taken Zelda, although I
still love all the Zelda games and play them when I get a chance. However,
when you posted on the Odyssey of Hyrule some of the first screenshots of
the new Zelda, I was disappointed. This was so radically different from what
I was expecting. I still remember people saying that Link looked like "a
five year old girl holding a stick" and I remember them saying they would not
buy such a "kiddy" game. I always knew I would buy the game, because I love
Zelda, and Miyamoto has not let me down yet when it comes to Zelda games;
they only seem to get better. Yet I was still disappointed.
Then, one day I had found a video online of the new cel-shaded Zelda, and
I watched it. Nintendo had changed the look of Link slightly to respond to
the overwhelming emails and opinions they received from fans, although I didn
t notice this until I looked at earlier screenshots. But I watched this
video, and my opinion changed. The characters showed emotion! Not like the
Cucco Lady in Ocarina of Time, where shes upset that her cuccos have
escaped, so she shakes her head and puts her hands on her face, yet is still
smiling. No, these characters show emotion, including Link. They smile when
they're happy, and frown when they are sad or upset. I was really impressed,
and after watching numerous videos I have come to like the cel-shaded Link
after all.
From what Ive heard, this game will be better than Ocarina of Time. The
size of the game is impressive, as well as the color and other visual
elements. The storyline seems well thought out, and Ive heard that there
are some surprises in the game, some related to the storyline, others not.
But I want this to remain spoiler-free for anyone who reads it, so that their
experience with the game is not ruined in any way. I have already been told
some spoilers that have ruined parts of the game, and do not wish to do the
same to anyone else.
I still hope that Miyamoto and Nintendo do another, more realistic
version of Zelda someday. I think that they would be able to do an amazing
job with the technology they can now use. I have thought since the beginning
that maybe this was always in their plans, and that they were delaying it to
make it that much better, since many fans were of the opinion that OoT could
have been better if more time was taken. I have heard rumors that it is
coming, although nothing can be confirmed yet because it has not been said by
a reliable source (as far as I know). Although people were spreading rumors
about OoT for the Cube, which were dismissed, and look now. Nintendo has
not denied the rumors, so well have to wait and see. But seeing as how Wind
Waker has received such high scores from reviewers, I dont think "realistic"
will matter much after you sit down to play the game.
