The 'Butterfly' !
Everyday, everyone wrestles with somebody and something.
‘Why do we have to interview Winnie Hsin? She’s not popular in Hong Kong now!’ A reporter asked with his eyebrows squeezing together. His supervisor replied, “Many people know her. Her ‘Understanding’ and ‘Scent’ is still the main songs in many compilation album! So, we must do an interview with her.” This round of wrestle, the reporter was lost by concrete argument.
I’m completely different from that reporter. A woman could sing those two songs with strong influence and attraction to the listeners, she might have a certain extent of living experience. Although the diva was extremely popular throughout China, Hong Kong and Taiwan on the 90s, there are not many information on the Internet and in the information room. Therefore, her background is still attached with the colour of mystery.
I’d never thought of, such interview with Winnie Hsin, was just another round of wrestle.
‘Understanding’ – 1994 Metro Radio Mandarin Song Gold; ‘Scent’ – 1995 Metro Radio Mandarin Song Gold; 1996 Radio & Television of Hong Kong The Best Mandarin Songs Gold; plus many awards in China, Taiwan and other areas speaking Chinese. Winnie Hsin almost won the medals of Gold throughout 1995 and 1996. People knew her from that period.
Monopolized Chinese Market Even now, those two songs still being heard in Karaoke rooms, or in singing contests. The reason for this is the melody is hard to handle. Also, Winnie Hsin presented in a sad way that make you can imagine the scenes of sad love stories. It’s so touching.
It’s hard to gain such output if the singer has less living experience. However, Winnie Hsin, 42, disagrees this argument for the success of the songs, ‘of course I have many experiences in love affairs, but this is not the main reason for that. The 7-year of vocal training with minor in piano, and other training in violin and cello make me handle every song easily and gain expected effects!’
As I wanted to ask her about her love experience, she let her assistance told me she didn’t want to say anything on this matter, she has been asked for that for many times. Later, after a few minutes of wrestle, she said, ‘I’ve tried several times and now I don’t have boyfriend. For the ex-boyfriends, you can find on the newspaper!’ From the research, I knew her last boyfriend was just a fan 15 years younger than her. ‘Apart from the little happiness at the beginning, I was not happy afterwards and my heart felt uneasy,’ she explained.
This guy was her fan, and they met at a Taiwan airport. He was dared to ask for idol’s telephone number.
Understanding From Elder-Sister & Younger-Brother Love Relationship ‘At the beginning, I didn’t care the eyes from the outside and loved a boy who was 15 years younger than me. We had kept the relationship for three years, and I even by his side when he graduated from college. At that time I thought if we loved each other, age was not a problem; but after the ‘heat’, pain came. Age was still a problem, and I found that we had difference on thinking. He was dependent on me and first I felt it was sweet. But after a long time, this kind of dependence turned to a burden. Eventually I couldn’t stand the burden so our relationship broke up!’
A broke up is painful, but for the 3-year elder-sister and younger-brother love relationship, Winnie Hsin felt relaxed! She flied to Shenyang, China and had stayed with her parents for a month, then backed to Taipei and started to work again.
As her sad love songs are deep rooted in the hearts of people, I thought she was a sentimental artist. However, during interview, she always showed smiles that are younger than her real age. It’s different from my expectation.
‘Not only you, but many people who don’t know me also think that I’m a sad woman. Actually, I’m very straight forward and cheerful. The image of ‘Scent’ and ‘Understanding’ was deep rooted in people, so they think me like that. These years I have many different style of pieces, but people still think me like that!’
Shining Winnie!
Traitor Of Classical Music Everybody knows that classical music and pop music are different. Winnie Hsin studied classical but become a pop singer, making her losing good friends, “I learned vocal music and played classical music. My friends who just played classical saw me as a traitor. Later I didn’t regret for this! Because I like singing and I’m glad to have the classical song ‘Understanding’.”
For music is her favourite, Winnie Hsin wanted to retire one time. “ ‘Understanding’ and ‘Scent’ made me had good sales result. But for my albums before that, I also did by heart but nobody noticed. So at that time I wanted to retire. As I grow older, I understand there’re many possibilities for one thing. If I still think of it, it just a waste of time, so I don’t think retire anymore!”
Although she lost some friends on classical music, but she gained another good friends, ‘I have high expectation on music, for every song I have to ask three to four lyrists to write the lyrics, then choosing the best one! Like ‘Scent’, I asked to modify for three times. As I love music, I made friends with artists that share the same interest, like Zhang Yu, Su Rei, Sky Wu, Valen Hsu etc., and Leslie Cheung brought me the deepest feeling.’ She sang with Leslie on ‘Endless Embrace’ and ‘Make Passes’.
The Scent of ‘Gor-gor’ ‘As I don’t know Cantonese, Gor-gor taught me the pronunciation in the song ‘Make Passes’. He was very thoughtful. On 1996, I was her special guest in his 26-show of concert in Hong Kong and Taiwan. On one of the show, he suddenly showed me a ring from his pocket and put on my finger. I still keep the present and sometimes I think of him on the stage. When I heard the bad news, I was very unhappy. Until now, I still thinking of him.’
For her up-and-down on career, broke up with her lovers, leaving of her friends, Winnie Hsin learnt to be relaxed. ‘I know I would not be popular all life long, but I won’t retire even I’m not popular anymore. I still have to release album, as I would wrestle with music!’
1:1 I interviewed with Winnie Hsin in a big Karaoke shop in Causeway Bay. During interview, assistance suddenly played the famous hit song ‘Understanding’. She cried ‘Cut!’ at once and explained, ‘I have sung this song for hundred times. If not necessary, I don’t listen to this song!’
It’s rare to sing Karaoke with the diva, so I asked her to sing a song. This time she still say no! ‘I don’t sing Karaoke often. If you want me to sing, please come to my concert!’ Although I lost in the wrestle, she told me a lot of her love experience, so this time the result was 1:1.

Show Off ^_^ 人生每天都過着角力的生活。
「為什麼要做辛曉琪訪問？她在香港不紅！」記者甲皺着眉梢問道。還趕不來作回應，上司乙說：「好多人認識她，她唱的〈味道〉、〈領悟〉，到現在仍是什麼金曲精選碟的膽（必有）歌！所以一定要做專訪。」這回的角力以技術性擊倒。
我倒不是這樣想，能夠唱出〈味道〉、〈領悟〉這些節奏哀怨，歌詞感人的歌曲，背後一定有不少人生經歷，所以她的故事一定很動人，能吸引到讀者。不過在互聯網及資料室中，並沒有太多有關她的檔案，無論在公在私，更加希望見到這位曾咤叱中港台，在九十年代奪得多個獎項，背景卻充滿着神秘色彩的辛曉琪。
但沒想到，與辛曉琪做專訪，是另一場角力賽的開始。
〈領悟〉——九四年新城電台勁爆國語歌曲金獎；〈味道〉——九五年新城電台勁爆國語歌曲金獎；九六年香港電台優秀國語歌曲金獎；還未算中國、台灣及其他亞洲華語地區所獲的獎項，辛曉琪差不多囊括九五、九六
年華語地區的國語金曲獎，而歌迷亦因而認識她。 到現在這兩首歌仍會在 K 房或是歌唱比賽中聽到，主要原因除了旋律起伏大考唱功外，亦是辛曉琪演繹得非常傷感，每當聽到這兩首歌時，一幕幕傷感的愛情故事即時投射到眼前，打動起聽眾心靈，勾起同感。
要唱得出這樣傷感的故事，少些人生經歷都絕對不能，年屆四十二歲的辛曉琪，人生經歷當然豐富，但原來主因是她的音樂造詣高，「我能夠唱出這些又苦、又悲哀的歌曲，當然是我有許多愛情路上的經驗，所以有感情唱歌，但是這並不是主因，主因是我高中、大學七年主修聲樂，副修鋼琴，選修小、大提琴，所以在聲音方面，當然可以唱得有感情，處理得到任何歌！」
正當想打蛇隨棍上，繼續問她感情世界時，誰不知，她立即找助手表示過往說得太多感情事了，所以不想說，結果與記者角力了幾分鐘，她才說：「我試過幾次愛情，分手後現在就沒有拍拖，而以往的愛情都可以在報紙看到！」在資料得知她曾有多段愛情，當中與比她細十五歲的男 Fans 拍拖的一段最為轟動，她回應：「除了開始時，我還有一點戀愛的快樂，之後的時候，內心掙扎，所以一點都不快樂！」
這位比她細十五年的男友，是她的歌迷，二人在台灣機場相遇，這位歌迷竟大膽向偶像取電話號碼，最終打動了辛曉琪。 「開始時，我不理會外間眼光如何反對，去愛一位比自己少十五年的男孩，戀愛三年，我還看着他大學畢業，那時我以為只要二人相愛，年齡不成問題；但當熱戀過去，就是痛苦的來臨，始終年齡有別，思想和觀念都有不同，開始時他會依賴我，感覺很甜蜜，但時間久了，依賴成了一種負擔，最終承受不了，分手收場！」
情人分手理應是傷心，但這三年的「姐弟戀」，辛曉琪竟感覺解脫！她飛往瀋陽與父母一家住了一個月，再回台北，重投歌唱事業。
由於辛曉琪的慘歌，實在太深入民心，所以筆者會以為她是多愁善感的藝人，但在訪問中，不時流露比年紀要細的笑容，看來與心目中的辛曉琪有很大出入。
「這個形象，其實不只你，好多不太了解我的人，亦以為我是這類悲傷的女人，卻其實我是個好豁達同好率直的人，之所以有這個形象給人，主要是大眾對歌曲〈味道〉及〈領悟〉深刻得太過了。其實我多年來，有不同類型的作品（歌曲），但仍然與『慘』字脫不離！」
眾所周知，古典音樂與流行音樂，是兩大對立的音樂門派，而修古典音樂的辛曉琪，成為流行歌手，亦令她損失不少好友：「由於我諗的聲樂，彈的是古典音樂，身邊一班玩古典音樂的朋友視我為叛徒，但我沒有後悔機會來到！我好喜歡唱歌，亦非常開心唱過經典的〈領悟〉。」 對於一個從小就熱愛音樂的歌手，估不到她竟曾萌起退休念頭，「〈領悟〉、〈味道〉令我有理想的唱片銷量，但之前的唱片，我都好用心去做，但卻沒有人去留意，所以有退休念頭，不過人大了，領略到事情會有很多可能性，結果開始意會到鑽牛角尖只會浪費時間，退休念頭便打消了！」
對於音樂的堅持及性格的率直，又令辛曉琪得到不少好友，「我對音樂要求好高，每首歌都會要求三、四個人填詞，然後再揀最好的！好似〈味道〉，我就要求改了三次，才得到現在的版本。由於我對音樂的熱誠，所以得到一班同是喜愛音樂的藝人，好像張雨、蘇蕊、伍思凱、許茹芸等等，而在眾多好友中，以哥哥張國榮的感覺最大。」有幸與哥哥合唱〈深情相擁〉、〈眉來眼去〉，當然非常難忘。 「由於我不會說廣東話，於是哥哥教我唱〈眉來眼去〉這歌的發音，他非常體貼溫柔，及後在九六年的世界巡迴演唱會中，我又作了他二十六場港台兩地的特別嘉賓，而在其中一場，他突然從袋裏拿了一隻戒指，還幫我戴，至今他的禮物，我仍然 Keep 住，不時回味着與哥哥在台上的情景，不過當知道哥哥死訊，身為朋友的我就非常傷心，至今仍對哥哥懷念不已。」
在樂壇打滾多年，面對自己事業起落，與愛人分手，朋友離開，辛曉琪學懂用平常心面對事情。「我知道娛樂圈不會紅一輩子，我不會言休，就算我不再紅，都要出唱片。我不愛音樂了，因為我會為音樂角力到底！」
與辛曉琪拍攝及訪問地點是銅鑼灣的大型卡啦 OK 店，訪問期間，助手突然點起辛曉琪的名曲〈領悟〉，她一見到，立即說「Cut！」，原來她已對〈領悟〉有點怕，接着解釋︰「我唱了這首歌數百次，如非必要，平日我唔會聽！」
又難得與辛曉琪唱 K，當然希望聽她高歌一曲，不過她又 Say No！︰「我平日好少唱 K，想聽我唱，睇我演唱會啦！」今回角力賽，筆者輸了，幸好她都跟我談了很多戀愛往事，算一比一打個平手。 |
