gumbo - 1. A soup thickened with okra pods or filé and containing meat or seafoods and usually vegetables. 2. Mixture, melange

cookin2.gif (1734 bytes)

Gumbo is a staple food of the Cajun people. The rich stew's aroma fills many a home throughout the year. Gumbo is a full-bodied meal that can be made from "what's on hand" or the delicious delicacies brought home by game hunters and fishermen.

An authentic gumbo can only be made by cooks who know how to make a roux (the base stock) and how to add just the right amount of file' (ground sassafras leaves.) For a successful and unique recipe, artful chefs cook up this satisfying dish by balancing the fruits of the land which go into the pot.

My hope is that readers will find such satisfaction here in my Writer's Gumbo.
I'll be blessed if you sit back and say, "Ca c'est bon!" (That's good!)

- Angie Ledbetter's Biography

angie3.jpg (3051 bytes)

Angie is the mother of 3 youngsters, step-mom of 2 grown kids and grandmother ("Nana") to 2. She's been married to Dennis for 17 years and resides in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. Angie has a residential/commercial cleaning service. When not working or engaged in activities with her kids, Angie does ministry work in her Church and community and is an involved scouter. All of her other "free" time is devoted to her passion of writing. She especially enjoys working on writing projects with her twin sister, Alaine Benard. She holds a Journalism degree from Louisiana State University and has always loved the written word, reading, photography, and word games. Being involved with some wonderful cybergroups has been a blessing. Angie is a member of several groups and is the owner of Cajun Connection e-group (www.geocities.com/thecajunconnection/index.html), a moderator of WordWorkers Christian writers e-group, and owner of the prayer warrior group, Kids Krusade.

Angie is a member of the Louisiana Press Women and NFPW. Her column, "Catholic Community" runs in the Ascension Citizen newspaper. She is a staff writer for a regional paper, Southern Renaissance, and in several online e-zines and sites such as rainydaycorner, HeroicStories, writers-exchange, EveryWomansNews, Kudlickapublishing, and furiouspen@ewritersplace. She is also a National Association of Women Writers Regional Representative.

Pair O' Dice
dice.gif (2870 bytes)

Pair O' Dice is the brainchild of twins, Alaine Benard & Angie Ledbetter.  Their column will make your readers howl with delight or indignation, depending on which twin they agree with. Pair O' Dice are Ann & Abby kicked up a notch. They'll knock socks off (occasionally each others') and quickly gain loyal fans. Alaine spews out street savvy and rear kickin' retorts to readers' quandaries, while Angie takes the high road, dishing up morality and sweetness. Readers will enjoy their morning coffee with an angel on one shoulder and a devil on the other! Don't miss out on this "twofer" offer. Angie & Alaine prove once and for all that the old adages are true - "Two heads are definitely better than one!" and “opposites definitely attract.” (Readers, that is!)
