Spanish xebecs in battle

What is a Xebec?

A xebec is a type of ship that operated mainly in the Mediterranean Sea from about 1650 to 1820. It was used primarily by Barbary (North African) Corsairs, who traded in their galleys for sail power and broadside capacity. The appearance of a xebec is unique, and worth sharing with the world. These ships had low, long hulls similar to a galley, with considerable overhang at the bow and stern. They were equipped with three lateen-rigged masts, the fore and mizzen having considerable rake to the bow and stern respectively.
