THE GOOD, THE BAD & EVERYBODY ELSE

THE LEGENDS

This page describes the various characters which may or may not join you on your quest to free the continent of Zetegenia from the Empire. You'll need most of them to join you if you want the best ending, or any of the good endings. This page is meant to complement the two Who's Who pages, which are linked below.

HeroHeroineDESTIN FARODA & [FEMALE HERO]

This is your main character, also referred to as "Lord." His or her attributes, including sex, are determined by you when you answer Warren's questions at the beginning. You first enter your name, then the sex, followed by questions to determine your various statistics. It is now revealed in Ogre Battle 64: Person of Lordly Caliber, that the male Lord is named "Destin Faroda."

LansLANS HAMILTON

Lans was once a knight in King Gran's legions, until Gran was assassinated by Prince Gares. So Lans now seeks someone who will help him restore peace to the kingdom by eliminating the Empire, and has been hanging out with Warren until that day. It seems that day has finally arrived, and you're the warrior he has been waiting for.

WarrenWARREN MOON

Warren is the Seer you meet when you start the game. He has been looking for a warrior to help free Zenobia and the entire Zetegenian continent from the oppressive Empire of Empress Endora. At level 4 he will be pretty powerful this early in the game along with high CHA and fairly low ALI. So it's not hard to abuse his power in the following stage and get his ALI and CHA to meet the mage class requirement.

CanopusCANOPUS WALF

This winged warrior was once one of King Gran knights. But when King Gran was assassinated, his long-time friend Gilbert defected to the Empire and Canopus gave up fighting since then. Canopus' sister, Yulia, is concerned for the two friends and asks you to intervene on this situation, hoping you can help them reconcile their differences.

It doesn't matter what order they are liberated in, but you must visit (move one of your units on top of the city/temple) in this order: 1) visit Latingurue (has a shop) 2) visit Bah'whal (you must answer "YES" to one of his 3 questions) 3) revisit Latingurue (move a unit back on it) 4) visit the hidden temple west of the boss's base (Yulia should give you the Wings) 5) revisit Bah'whal and recruit Canopus. Remember, you can liberate these in any order, but you must visit them as follows for this winged warrior to join you. Also, your reputation must be slightly above the half-way mark too.

GilbertGILBERT

Gilbert was once a proud warrior of King Gran, but now serves the Empire as the ruler over Sharom. However, Gilbert's treachery is not a simple shift in loyalties. Gilbert believes first and foremost in the protection of the citizens of Sharom, so he sided with the Empire to prevent the Empire from harming his people. Gilbert's only failing may be his inability to forgive himself for the decision.

DenebDENEB

A rather infamous young witch, known throughout for her beauty and her villainous scheming. Her only real desire in life is the pursuit of magic and expanding her abilities. This has recently put her at odds with the people in her Garden principality whom she has been using for her experiments. She is one of two characters who have been in all three Ogre Battle games, Gilbert being the other.

AsheASHE

Ashe was once a general in King Gran's army, but when the Royal Family was assassinated, he was accused for their murder. Although he didn't do the dirty deed, he blames himself for not being able to stop it and has never publicly defended himself of the crime. He is currently a prisoner waiting to die, but he may want one last chance to see justice before his time on Earth comes to an end.

Her ideals are much like your own and she also wishes to escape the Empire like her friend Rauny. She is in love with another Empire soldier, Kaus Debonair. When this happened, Saradin turned on his master, prompting another of Rashidi's students, Albeleo, to turn him to stone. Since that day 25 years ago, Saradin has remained as a frozen statue, waiting for someone to awaken him.

TristanPRINCE TRISTAN ZENOBIA

Prince Tristan was thought to have been killed with the rest of his family 25 years ago. But his nanny, Banya, rescued him and kept him hidden until now. YushisYUSHIS

When Yushis' sister, Mizal, formed a contract with Rashidi and came to Earth, other angels were sent to bring her back. Many of them were caught and/or destroyed by the Empire, and among the captured is Yushis. Yushis has been held prisoner in Antalia ever since. SlustSLUST THE RED

Slust the Red is one of the 3 High Knights who fought in the Ogre Battle some 1000 years ago. Normally a fighter for justice whose worst crime is his incessant eyeing of pretty ladies, he has been charmed by Rashidi into fighting you. After the Ogre Battle was over, many of the humans started to fight amongst themselves, and so the Knights were ordered back to the Sky Islands. But Fenril refused to turn her back on the humans. Though Rashidi has promised Galf the Black Diamond for his escape, you also possess an equally powerful substitute. If you seek his unholy assistance, you must give him the Brunhild sword. Fogel is the last of the three High Knights. When he arrived on Shiguld, he challenged the local dragon, Bytalth, and defeated him. But this released the curse which turned Fogel into a dragon, and split Shigult into two pieces. Fogel has since been charmed into doing Rashidi's bidding.

THE VILLAINS

Who heard of a video game without villains? OK, there are, but Ogre Battle ain't one of them. This will list all the characters who will get in your way as you proceed through the game. Their stats aren't here as they can be found on the Stage by Stage Walkthrough pages. Characters who may join you are listed above, so they won't be here.

UsarUSAR

Usar was once nothing more than a bandit who plagued the lands surrounding Sharom until the Empire gave him total control. Lans wants a shot at him.

KapellaKAPELLA

Kapella was one of Rashidi's apprentices as well as a Mage studying the art of necromancy in the Pogrom Forest. A hideous massacre occurred during the invasion of the Empire, and Kapella has been taking advantage of the unrest souls of the Pogrom Forest. He uses an undead army consisting of Ghosts and Skeletons, as well as many other dark denizens of the underworld.

SiriusSIRIUS

Though most people don't believe is such things, Sirius is a Werewolf. He has a pension for violence which has recently led to him raping and consuming young girls.

PorkyusPORKYUS

Porkyus isn't evil, but she's just as determined to stop you for her own reasons. For centuries, her people have been plagued by the humans who believed in a tale that if you ate the flesh of a mermaid, you became immortal (Xesmeraude: someone at Quest must've read the "Mermaid Scar" manga ^_^). These acts of cannibalism have led Porkyus to make a pact with Empress Endora to stop you, hoping that the Empire can give her people the peace they need.

FiragoFIGARO

Figaro is the second of Endora's four Devas. And like the others, he is devoted to Endora. He was once Debonair's friend, though Figaro will follow his Emprire allegiance to his grave.

AresARES

Ares is another bandit hired by the Empire. He was sent to hunt down the runaway Paladin, Rauny, to bring her back to Malano so she could marry Baron Apros. Were it not for the money, Ares would be totally uninterested in the goings on of the Empire.

AlbeleoALBELEO

One of Rashidi's students, he is reported to be over a hundred years old. Albeleo has gained power over life and death itself, which is how he is able to maintain his youth, and is said to be able to resurrect himself from the dead... a feat which is only found in one other person, South Park's Kenny McCormick. Albeleo reappears in Tactics Ogre as none other than the mysterious warlock, Radlum, who joins Denim's rebellion in Hell Gate trying to uncover the secret of Dragon Magic. Radlum's Japanese death quote confirms this.

AprosAPROS

Baron Apros is one of Empress Endora's most devoted subjects when he's not cowering beneath a table. This pitiful creature is responsible for many abominations, including the Pogrom Forest Massacre and for his services, he's being given the hand of Overlord Hikash's daughter, Rauny, who ran away when the wedding was arranged.

MizalMIZAL

Mizal was once the Head Angel, until she fell in love with Rashidi. As an act of love, she gave him the powerful Black Diamond. When she did, he promptly left her. Mizal was cast from her position and she fled to Earth. Many angels were sent to retrieve her and the Black Diamond, only to be captured or destroyed. Mizal is in a state of great guilt over her actions and refuses to return to the heavens, but instead fights for the Empire awaiting her sister's arrival to end her miserable existence. She believes this only honorable way to return the other side. A truly tragic story.

OmicronOMICRON

Omicron was once a Bishop, until he started to study necromancy and was thrown out of the priesthood for his acts. Like Kapella, he continues to study necromancy, but Omicron is much more powerful.

CastorPolydeucesCASTOR and POLYDEUCES

These two cretins are physically the most powerful warriors the Empire has. But they also have about as much combined brain power as a brick. Their dreaded Gemini Attack is rumored to kill dragons in one blow though.

ProchonPROCHON

This ninja was once the leader of King Ofay's army, until he betrayed his king for the Empire. His current mission is to seek out Gizolfy who is gone into hiding. Prochon has lived his whole life in darkness and secrecy, and it has given him a real attitude problem.

RandalsRANDALS

A priest who has a sweet tooth for gold. Randals is really a crooked merchant who has taken over the temples in the Ryhan Sea and is forcing them to make offerings, just a ruse for taxes to line his own pockets. They say there are two certainties in life: Death and Taxes, but he combines them, Death from Taxes. There are those who say he'll even tax dying!

PreviaPREVIA

Previa is the third of Endora's Devas, and is as noble and pious as they come, until he was turned to the ways of Black Magic by Rashidi. He is currently held up in Shulamana where it is rumored a survived Queen Floran (Tristan's mother) is held prisoner. Like Figaro, he'll die for the Empire.

LuvalonLUVALON

Luvalon is the last of the Devas, and is certainly not the least. It was Luvalon who defeated Bytalth and he bathed in the dragon's blood, making him all but invincible. He is currently after the Grail which you will also want, so to get it, you'll have to defeat the powerful Deva. He will give you his trusted sword, Bizen, if you win also.

HikashHIKASH VINZALF

General Hikash is the Empire's most noble warrior, to a fault. He is too devoted to his homeland and to Empress Endora to help you, even though he knows of the wrongs the Empire has committed. You have no choice, he stands in your way, and you must defeat him. He wishes to see his daughter, Rauny, one last time before the Empire falls.

EndoraENDORA

Empress Endora is the one who started this whole mess, or is she? The Zeteginean Empress discovered that the land of Rodisti (Lodis) in the north was planning an invasion of the continent. No one, including the Zenobian kingdom under King Gran, would listen to her warnings, except Rashidi. Rashidi twisted her original noble intention of protecting the contintent from Rodisti's invasion, into conquering the entire continent for herself. Some people believe that it is your duty to save the Empress, as there is still good in her. But the Empire must be stopped, and it is far too late for Endora's redemption. You can take care of Rodisti (Lodis) on your own time, but not in this game.

GaresGaresGaresGARES

The evil Prince of the Empire, he has totally forfeited his humanity for dark power so he can rule with an iron fist. You'll fight him three times, not including 10 clones of him waiting for you in Zeteginea. And he gets more powerful each time.

RashidiRASHIDI

Rashidi is the one who really started this whole mess. He turned Endora and the Highlands into an army of evil that ravaged the landscape. He tricked the Head Angel, Mizal, into giving him the Black Diamond. He charmed the 3 High Knights into becoming evil. He tried to make a pact with Galf, the evil devil of the Underworld. He trained his cronies Albeleo and Kapella to do his dirty work. As you can see, it's all HIS fault! Danika, Goddess of both Fertility and the Netherworld, prophesizes that Rashidi will start the next Ogre Battle.

DIABLO

Diablo IS the most evil creature to walk the face of the Earth. Even though Rashidi knew that he was doomed to fail, he wasn't about to let you win that easily and used the Black Diamond to summon this vile creature.

THE SUPPORTING CAST

You certainly don't think you'll be going up against these odds without some help. These characters will offer advice an help as you proceed through the game.

BadistaBADISTA

Badista is a wizard who is living in Valna in the borders of Sharom. He is looking for the Book of the Dead, and if you bring him one, he'll trade you for an Undead Ring. A fair trade as the Book of the Dead is useless to you otherwise.

YuliaYULIA WALF

Yulia, an avid singer/dancer and sister of Canopus. She's the link to getting both Canopus and Gilbert to join you. If Canopus does join, Yulia will show up on occasion to lend a hand... or a Vitality potion.

BabaloaBABALOA

Babaloa is a witch residing in Sharom who is quite knowledgeable on the Empire and the history of the continent. Though you don't need to talk to her, you're better off heading to see her to learn a little more about the upcoming journey.

ToadTOAD

Toad is a greedy merchant whose visage looks like something out of a B-rated horror movie. He's a sly one, and though not the most reputable man you'd want to do business with, you'll likely meet him from time to time.

BoltoranoBOLTORANO

One of the three White Wizards, he possesses the Olden Orb, but he won't give it to you until after you've met Gizolfy. Take the Quicksilver from him to show to Gizolfy and receive the Gem of Doun.

BanyaBANYA

The nanny who once cared for Gram two sons, Jan and Tristan. She tells you that when the royal family was massacred, she was able to escape with the elder son, Tristan.

MangoMANGO

Like Babaloa, Mango is wise beyond her years and knows much about ancient lore, including the 3 High Knights and the Ogre Battle.

PoshaPOSHA

A young girl whose mother has fallen deathly ill. Her father went out to find a Golden Beehive which can cure her mother, but he hasn't returned. Give Posha a Golden Beehive and she'll give you a Sentoul Demon. She may help you find the Pearl later on. Posha has a sweet tooth for ginger cakes.

BorgnineBORGNINE

The Stupendous Wizard Borgnine is notorious for having the world's largest Sentoul Demon collection. Bring him one to get a nice prize.

FellanaFELLANA, GODDESS OF JUSTICE

The Goddess of Justice live high up on the floating island of Shangrila. It is here that the 12 Zodiac Stones once presided. Bring Fellana the three magic gems to get the Tablet of Yaru, a symbol needed to retrieve the 12 Zodiac Stones.

GizolfyGIZOLFY THE WHITE

Gizolfy has the Gem of Doun, and will give it to you if you present him with the Quicksilver.

TarutTHE WITCH TARUT

Tarut possesses the Gem of Truth, the last gem needed to get the Tablet of Yaru from Fellana.

ParcivalPARCIVAL

Parcival is the knight who made off with the Grail to keep it out of the Empire's hands. Luvalon is after him, but he'll reward you with the Grail if you defeat Luvalon and possess a high reputation.

GawainGAWAIN

One of the last living Paladins in the Empire. He and the others tried to convince Endora to give up her evil ways, but she was too enthralled by Rashidi's magic. He was barely able to escape alive when Gares slaughtered the other paladins. He offers you information during the final stages of your rebellion.

BLACK MANTLE

Hidden deep within his sanctuary, Black Mantle offers his assistance to those who seek to free Zeteginea from the dominating wrath of the Empire. He is living proof that creatures of darkness are not beings of evil, and with him on your side, even the mighty Diablo cannot stand in your way.
