He left the mansion over year ago, after the death of his sister, Ilyana, to take some time off from the X-Men and being a super hero in general. He's been working several odd jobs in different places across the country. His only steady friend has been a German Shepherd puppy that he adopted when it was a few months old and named Apollo. Apollo is almost two years old now)
