DAILY JOURNAL COMMENTS:
Today we woke up around 8 in the morning and Eve and I fixed breakfast which is a very simple process since all you have to do is put out the milk, granola, apples, and oranges and then mix the orange juice. After breakfast we met with Jonathan Burstein, who helped organize the trip although he will not be biking with us. We talked about safety on the trip including signals and rules of the road. We then continued on by talking about global issues facing the world today meeting with a vistor from Mexico who talked about the wage problems that the mexican farmers and workers are facing. After about two hours of talking everyone needed a break which was followed by a discussion and mock interview for the media. This was designed to prepare everyone for the encounters that we hope to have in the future with the media. We then moved on to lunch consisting of either peanut butter or tuna fish sandwiches. We had a nice long and relaxing lunch and then it was on to more talking about what Bike-Aid is about, how it developed, and what its association is with ODN. Fortunately this ended at around 3:30 and by 4:00 we had finished doing a test pack of the SAG wagon to make sure that we didn't need to send home any of our gear. Luckily we were able to keep everything and even had room to spare! I then made a trip down to the local YMCA where we were able to get free passes for the day to take showers and do any other things that we wanted, such as playing basketball swimming or just sitting in the sauna. After having a great lasagna dinner, almost everyone then took a trip down to REI to get any last minute essentials that we may have forgotten. This night we got to bed around 12:00.
