DISTANCE TRAVELED: 0.00 Miles
AVERAGE SPEED: 0.00 MPH

I woke up at 8:00, the latest in a long time, and ate breakfast. By 9:15, Reudi and Al had come back with two rental cars to drive us up to the Gila Cliff Dwellings. The 44-mile drive was beautiful with rock formations and views of the vast valley below. (Picture226) We took a hike to the caves where the stone structures were very well preserved. (Picture227) Paintings were still on the walls and logs were still in the walls of the buildings. (Picture228,Picture229,Picture230, Picture231,Picture232,Picture233,Picture234) There were still corncobs on the floors of some of the rooms! While we were inside, thunder rolled and echoed all around the cliffs and caves. It was an incredible experience. On the drive back down, (Picture235) we tried to go to an old saloon for lunch but it was closed. When we got back to town, we ate at 3:30. After lunch, I went back to the campground and then over to Dairy Queen just as the rain started to come down. Only two hours later, we had pizza for dinner, followed by a repeat of last night's conversation. This time however, everyone packed up at night and was in bed by 8:45. I stayed up and wrote in the books we planned to present to Lou and Brian as mementos of our journey. After packing, I went to bed at 11:00.
