Lou woke me up at 6:15 so we could go rafting on the Arkansas River. After some oatmeal for breakfast, everyone got ready for the day which included a crude haircut for Scott. (Picture139) We then went to the rafting company at 8:00 and got our life jackets before loading onto the bus. We drove ˝ hour up the river and then slid the rafts down an iron railing to the river. At 9:00, we jumped into the boat with our guide, Jason. As we went down the smooth part of the river, we learned that 60 raft companies have licenses to go down the river and 5 to 6 hundred thousand people go down it each year! As we went down, boats were all around us until we began to hit the rapids. Jason did some “sticky buns” for us where we hit the bottom of the raft on a rock so it sticks for a second and then spins off. (Picture140,Picture141) They gave a good jerk the first few times and threw us around. Later, we surfed a wave for at least a minute, spinning around and having water thrown into the boat. The class 3 rapids were great with a few good drops. Scott, who was in front of me, got drenched on one, but I managed to stay away from most of the cold water. When we finished around 12:00, five of us rode down to a local restaurant for a very filling lunch. By 1:30, we were back at the campground where we sat around for most of the rest of the day. At 5:30, Sam's dad arrived to pick him up since he had to start college in a few days. He stayed for a barbeque dinner of steak, chicken, corn, Brian's homemade salsa, and tons of other extras. By 7:00, Sam had to leave so we took a group picture and said goodbye. (Picture142,Picture143,Picture144) Since most of the group had not seen Star Wars yet, many people went to the movies while I helped clean up dinner, pack my bags for the next day and take a shower. I got back to my tent and fell asleep quickly at 9:15.
