Shackrat Special

#23 "SHACKRAT SPECIAL" A B-24L of the 9th Bombardment Squadron. Post type antenna aft of the astrodome indicates this aircraft was equipped with glide path equipment. (Courtesy Michael Bronson) NOTE: This aircraft bears the same "Battle Number" as "The Angry Angel. Each squadron of the 7th Bomb Group assigned a number to their aircraft. The 9th used numbers 20 through 39, and when an aircraft was destroyed, transferred or otherwise lost to the squdron the number was then assigned to to a new aircraft as it was acquired. These numbers were usually painted on the outboard surfaces of the horizontal stabilizer in the lower front quadrant (see Aircraft Markings pages)
