                 Through Mary and with Mary
The Roman Catholic Apostolic Church will Triumph
                     Under the Cross of Christ

Editorial

Visited  By  An  Angel

In this issue there is a story of a man who was visited by Yacub (Jacob), probably an angel in human form. In the previous issue there was a story of a man who nearly died, and was converted by means of a vision. God is all powerful, and can use such means to save souls. But such incidents do not occur frequently. The ordinary means by which God saves souls, is through other humans, members of his body, his church. Christ said to the apostles, "He who hears you, hears me." Christ identifies himself with the members of his church. "As long as you did it to one of these my least brethren, you did it to me."  Matt. 25:40. To listen to them is to listen to Christ. He manifests his truth by means of ordinary human beings. He reveals the truth, by persons, happenings, and incidents that occur in our lives.

The doctrine of victimhood is based on the dogma of the communion of saints, that the prayers, works, and sufferings of some members of Christ's body, his church, can help other souls, both souls on earth and those in purgatory. St. Paul practiced the doctrine of victimhood when he wrote: "I now rejoice in my sufferings for you, and fill up those things that are wanting of the sufferings of Christ, in my flesh, for his body, which is the church." - Colossians 1:24

At the present time, so many souls are living and dying in mortal sin. For this reason Our Lord and Our Lady have requested victim souls. Our Lady said at Fatima, "Many souls go to hell, because there is no one to pray and make sacrifices for them." She asked the three children to offer themselves in reparation, and they accepted. They all made sacrifices, and suffered in a heroic manner. If three children could do this, could not adults do something similar?

The more victim souls there are, the more happiness there will be in this sad world, now under the dominion of Satan nearly everywhere. The world is now living in a state of intense spiritual darkness. Satan appears to have conquered nearly everywhere. However, the victory of Satan is brief. The victory of Our Lord will last forever.

Our Lady said at Fatima: "In the end, my Immaculate Heart will triumph." We have the promise of final victory. But how soon the victory will come, depends partly on what we do right now. The victory will come sooner, if there are more victim souls. God really needs our help and cooperation. And the souls living in darkness and in sin need it also.

May it be for the glory of God

"Wanting": There is no want in the sufferings of Christ in himself as head: but many sufferings are still wanting, or are still to come, in his body the church, and his members the faithful. -- Note of Bishop Challoner, explaining Colossians 1:24

How  Zana  Was  Converted  by  an  Angel  named  Yacub

O God, Who does great things and unsearchable, and wonderful things without number. -- Job 5:9

And hospitality do not forget; for by this some, being not aware of it, have entertained angels. -- Hebrews 13:2. See Book of Tobias, in which Tobias received Ananias, not knowing he was an angel. Genesis 18. Abraham entertained three angels, who predicted the birth of Isaac. Then two of the three angels went away immediately for Sodom, to rescue Lot from certain destruction. The third remained with Abraham.

My name is Zana. My story started in late 1980’s, when I was detained by the Iranian police for no reason. They thought that I had some connections with Kurdish political parties, that were opposing the Islamic Republic. I did not have any connection with any political party, or anything of that sort. Months went by, without them even letting my family know where I was. Finally, the day came when I was brought into court. The Judge asked me three questions, that were asked of many people:

What is your name? -- I said Zana.
What is your ethnicity? -- I said I am a Kurd.
What is your religion? -- I said that I am a Sunni Muslim.

I was taken out of the court, thrown back into my cell, and I was beaten all night. Next morning, they put me on a bus headed back to Mahabad, my city in Kurdistan. On the bus, I was sitting next to a man. He opened his bag and took out a sandwich which was wrapped in newspaper. I was very hungry, since I had not eaten regular food in almost six months. I did not want to look at his food, but I just couldn't stand the smell of the kabobs. He turned around and asked me if I would like one. Without hesitating as we usually do in Iranian culture, I asked for one. Instead of one, he gave me two out of the three that he had with him. I asked for his name, and he said that his name was Yacub (Jacob or James). I had never heard that name before. So I asked, "What kind of name is this?" He said "Hebrew". "Ahh, so you are a Jew?" I asked back. "No, I am a Christian", he said.

I had heard a lot of negative things about Christians in the Quran, so I did not want to get into a conversation about Christianity. But something inside me made me wonder why he believed in it (Christianity)? I asked if he believed that Jesus was the son of God. The answer was yes. How could God have a wife? How could God have sex? He started explaining that to say that God had sex with Mary is the greatest sin. But rather Jesus is the son of God in a spiritual way, and not like the way we are born. And we never say that God ever had a wife, we believe in a holy God. I wanted to stop the conversation and begin a different subject. I could not think of any other subject, so I asked him why he was going to Kurdistan. He said that a friend needed some help with something. I asked for his name; he said Zana. That was my name. But I thought it was a different person. He opened his bag and very quietly gave me a Bible. He put it in my bag. He knew that if someone saw him with that book, it could cost him his life. I asked what it was. He told me that I would find out later.

We got to Mahabad, and I got off the Bus before he did. I got my bag, and was waiting outside for Yacub (Jacob) to come off, but the bus was empty, and he still had not come out. I went to the driver and asked him where the man sitting next to me had gone? To my astonishment and confusion he said, "There was no man sitting next to you." Was I crazy or what? I said maybe I was dreaming. But I still had the taste of the sandwich in my mouth. I still had the book in my bag. What was Yacub? Who was he? Why didn't he go to his friend's house? Then I remembered that the friend's name was Zana, and only then realized he meant me.

I went home and found my mom in the house crying. She was so surprised and happy to see me. I asked what had happened since I had been gone. I found out that soldiers were looking for me, and that she was raped by a Jaush (Kurdish for "traitor"). When I heard that, I felt like somebody was hitting me in the back with sticks. I went to my room and wept like a baby. I could not believe that this really had happened.

That night when I asked for my older brother Hasan at dinner, they all started crying. They told me that he was hanged. I felt like the food was going through my back. I could not eat. I got up and went to my room for some more weeping. I felt like the whole world was on my shoulders, and I felt like I was carrying the rocks. I had nothing to do, so I took out the book and started reading. After reading the first chapters of the book of Genesis, I went to read the Injil. I started reading the book of Matthew. I was surprised. I had never seen anything like this. I stopped at chapter ten and just went to bed. I still could hear my Mom and sister crying downstairs. The neighbors came to cheer them up and talk to them. Next morning life was normal, so I went and visited my brother's grave. Life became normal again, until one night in my dream Yacub appeared, and told me that I must leave my country. I knew something was up, so I went and hid at a friend's house. I did not want to leave the country; I loved it.

Sometime after, I sneaked back to my house at night, and discovered that soldiers had been in my house, and they were looking for me. Now this time, it was my sister that was raped by the soldiers for no reason. My brother who was executed, had some ties to the Kurdish political parties. But what had I done wrong, or what had my sister done wrong? Is this what they call an Islamic Republic? All I could think of was suicide. But I would now leave so many people behind. If it was not for my family, I would have killed myself. I knew that Yacub was telling me something. But what? Help me Yacub; what do you want me to do? I went to my room and packed whatever I could, because I was going to leave the country. I took the Bible with me, and headed for the mountains, crossing the borders into Iraq. I stopped in the middle of nowhere for a rest. I took out my book and read in it. When I came to Matthew 11:28 "Come to me all who are heavy laden and weary, and I will give you rest," I was shocked, and did not know what to think, because the book kind of read my mind. It had what my heart longed for. I found what I was looking for. I found what met my personal needs. Right there in the middle of the night, I gave my life to Jesus Christ. I couldn't believe the changes that were happening inside of me. I felt a kind of peace, that could not be expressed by words. I was relieved. I could feel all of the weight that I felt on my shoulders coming off. I now understood God, and what he was like. It was a good thing that I did not commit suicide. The Lord had a plan for me. I now knew who Yacub was -- an angel. It was very hard to believe. I myself found it hard to believe. But an angel would be the best answer.

I now forgave all of those that done wrong to me. Instead of cursing, I prayed for the salvation of the people who had beaten me in prison. I am grateful for having such a wonderful experience. My sincere prayer is that God Almighty will show you the truth.

The  Science  of  Love

by  Dr.  John  C.H.  Wu --- (continued from previous issue)
LOVE: NATURAL AND DIVINE

Like Magdalen, Therese loves Jesus as her Betrothed. With touching
candidness she writes, "Eight days after I had taken the veil our cousin
Jeanne was married to Dr. La Neele, and at her next visit I heard of all
the little attentions she lavished on her husband. I was greatly impressed,
and I determined it should never be said that a woman in the world did more
for her husband, than I for my Beloved. Filled with fresh ardor, I strove
with increased earnestness to please my Heavenly Spouse, the King of kings,
who had deigned to honor me by a divine alliance."[10]

In a letter to her sister, Celine, she says, "Let us make of our heart a
garden of delights, where our sweet Savior may come for repose; let us
plant therein beautiful lilies of purity, for we are virgins . . . and then
let us not forget that 'virginity is a complete indifference to all earthly
cares; not only to useless care, but to all cares . . .' "[11]

Elsewhere she says, "The great Saints have worked for the glory of God, but
I, who am only a very little soul, I work for His pleasure alone. I wish to
be, in the hands of the good God, a floweret, a rose of no use, but of
which the sight and fragrance will nevertheless be to Him a refreshment, a
little joy superadded."[12] One seems to hear the voice of Magdalen herself.

It often occurs to me that a woman's love, as a rule, is deeper and more
constant than that of a man. For, as Laurence Housman so fairly puts it,

"O! a man's love is strong
When fain he comes a-mating.
But a woman's love is long
And grows when it is waiting."[13]

Woman is not only more patient, but has also a greater capacity for
suffering and self-sacrifice. No one has depicted her lot better than John
Masefield:

"I know a woman's portion when she loves,
It's here to give, my darling, not to take;
It isn't lockets, dear, nor pairs of gloves,
It isn't marriage bells nor wedding cake,
It's up and cook, although the belly ache;
And bear the child, and up and work again,
And count a sick man's grumble with the pain."[14]

If only a woman would turn her natural capacity for unselfish love from man
to God, she would already be at the very portals of Heaven.

Therese was born with a genius for love, extraordinary even for a woman.
Her affection for her parents, her sisters, her cousins, and her neighbors,
was as deep as it was strong. Her sympathy for the poor, her compassion for
sinners, revealed itself early in life. She had a heart on fire with love,
and she was destined to be united with God.

Even as a child, she was conscious of her high destiny, but she was not
proud, because she knew that her high destiny was a free gift from her
Lover. She was as humble as she was gifted. Nature and grace conspired
together to make a great saint of little Therese, for nature prepared her
to be a great lover and grace led her to love the Holy Face. It was not
Jesus transfigured on the Mount of Tabor, it was Jesus on His way to
Calvary, that especially captivated her soul. As she said, "My devotion to
the Holy Face, or rather all my piety, has been based on these words of
Isaias:

"There is no beauty nor comeliness in him; we have seen him, and there was
no sightliness in him . . . Despised and most abject of men, a man of
sorrows, and acquainted with infirmity; his face was as it were hidden and
despised, whereupon we esteemed him not. I too desire to be without glory
or beauty, 'to tread the winepress alone,' unknown by any creature."[15]

This confession is of paramount importance, for it seems to me to
constitute the keynote of her character. I even think that there is a tinge
of chivalry in her love of Jesus. "For many serve Him when He gives them
consolation, but few consent to bear Him company when he sleeps on the
storm-tossed waves, or when He suffers in the garden of Gethsemani. Who,
then, will serve Jesus for Himself? Ah! it shall be Therese."[16]

What a gallant lover this woman was! It was St. Francis de Sales who said,
"Love equalizes lovers";[17] and I have a suspicion that Jesus appreciates
loving audacity much more than cold courtesy on the part of His friends.
Therese called her Divine Spouse a thief, a fool, a blind lover who is
ignorant of arithmetic; and Jesus loved her all the more, because on the
lips of little Therese, they were terms of endearment.

How deeply she felt for Jesus can be inferred from a little anecdote.
Someone gave her a crucifix. She kissed it with tenderness, and said, "He
is dead. I like it better when He is represented as dead, because then I
think that he suffers no more."[18] Only a woman could have felt that way.

SINCERITY AS THE SOUL OF LOVE -- (To be continued)

Revelations  of  Saint  Gertrude
Bk 2. Chapter 2.  Adversity  is  the  spiritual  ring,  with which the soul is betrothed to God.

As Gertrude offered to God in her prayers all that she suffered in body and mind, and all the pleasures of which she had deprived herself, whether in the flesh or the spirit, Our Lord appeared to her, and showed her the pleasures and the pains which she had offered to Him under the form of two rings, enriched with precious stones, which He wore to adorn His hands. The Saint, perceiving this, repeated the offering frequently; and when she suffered a corporal affliction some time afterwards, she beheld Jesus her Lord touch her left eye with the ring which He carried in His left hand, and which represented corporal afflictions and sufferings; and from this moment she felt extreme suffering in this eye, which she had beheld Our Lord touch in Spirit, and this pain was never entirely removed.

She knew from this that, as the ring is a sign of espousal, so also sufferings in body or mind are testimonies of the spiritual espousal of the soul with God; so that whoever suffers may say confidently, with all truth: "My Lord Jesus Christ has espoused me to Him with His ring"; and if he recognizes in those afflictions the graces which he has received, and returns thanks, he may add: "He has adorned me with a crown as His spouse", because thanksgiving in tribulation is a crown of glory more brilliant than gold, and incomparably more precious than topaz.

Chapter 3. Human consolation weakens that which is Divine. (To be continued)

In the cross is life; in the cross is joy of spirit; in the cross is protection from enemies. -- Imitation of Christ, Bk. 2, Ch. 12.
Disciple carrying cross

God needs our suffering, to be used by virtue of the Communion of Saints, to assist other souls in their redemption.

God sends the heaviest crosses to those He calls His own,
And the bitterest drops of the chalice are reserved for His friends alone.
But the blood red drops are precious, and the crosses are all gain,
For Joy is bought with Sacrifice, and the price of love is Pain.
