Texture Plugin Set for Blender



 

As a struggliging game developer I have been trying to find a good way of producing game textures for some time. I already use Blender for designing and exporting meshes and animations. Recently I started to experiment with texture plugins for producing tileable images. I came up with a set of plugins (currently five) that will hopefully be useful for other Blender users.

The plugins share a number of features and capabilities:

- All plugins can produce tileable images.

- They can generate fast and good looking analytic bump maps.

- The plugins support oversampling to prevent aliasing and other artifacts

- Whereever possible I tried to immitate the interface and behavior of Blender's native textures.

There are currently five plugins. These are: rClouds, rWood, rMarble, rWeave and rBricks. The images to the right have been made using rTexture plugins. Of course BlenderDungeon's background image was also done this way.

I have compiled the plugins for only Windows. If you are using another OS you can download the source files here. You will have to compile the plugins yourself. If you do so, please send the compiled plugins to me so that I can place them here.

USAGE TIPS:

- Analytic bummapping "cheats" for bumpmapping turbulance. So the resulting bumpmap may be different from what you expect.

- Do not change the texture's scale settings (tilesX and tilesY) unless you are making tileble images. You should use the size settings in the material buttons for adjusting the scale of the texture. TilesX and tilesY buttons only affect the raw texture and ignore the scale of the turbulance. Therefore, you should decrease noisesize setting proportionally if you play with these.

- OSA setting works only if you have enabled oversampling in the render buttons.
