about me

yogananda jeppu born in mangalore, karnataka, india on april 30, 1965 - that's me. my father vasudev and mother geetha named me after paramahasma yogananda. jeppu is the name of my village, in mangalore. father was in the northern railways so as a kid i was all over north india along with the indian railway coach, my mobile home.

we came to mangalore to settle down in 1979 and i joined the canara high school for my 10th standard. my pre-university education was at canara college, mangalore. in 1986 i passed out of manipal institute of technology, manipal as an electronics and communication engineering graduate. four years of my life were spent here watching the sun set in the arabian sea at the sunset point.

i did my masters in mechanical engineering, specialising in missile control and guidance, at the institute of armament technology, pune, maharashtra. iat, pune is a part of the defence research and development organisation, under the ministry of defence, india.

i joined the defence research and development laboratory, hyderabad to put to good use what i had "mastered". i was involved in the control and guidance of the akash missile.

1993 i got married. wife mamatha is a post graduate in geology and a home maker. we got a daughter natasha in 1996 and a son aditya in 2001. 1995 we moved to bangalore when i joined aeronautical development agency. .

at present i am involved in the design and testing of the control system of the light combat aircraft (lca). lca took to the skies for the first time on january 4, 2001.

my interests and hobbies are astronomy, philately, writing and computers. my favourite site for astronomy is Dr. Odenwald's ask the astronomer, an archive of 3000 questions and answers on astronomy. some of the other sites of interest are the calendar zone, and mathworks astronomy links.

father is a veteran philatelist. we collect india post independence and IYC 1979 worldwide stamps. with his guidance and help i have made a site for the dakshina kannada philatelic and numismatic association, mangalore which won the FIP 2000 top 5% site award at ESPANA 2000. mother would have been proud of us. we are grateful to mamatha for her patience and support while we sat at the computer typing away neglecting the family.
