628.5c Walter BRISCOE b. 17 Nov 1775, PA, d. 17 Apr 1855, Lewis Co., MO, d/o Walter and Elizabeth (COMPTON) BRISCOE (see 628.5), m. 23 Jul 1792, Nelson Co., KY, by James Chambers, bond provided by James Scanland (other source states they were m. 21 Jul 1792), Hester 'Hetty' HINTON b. c1775, VA, d. 1858, d/o William (step-father) and Polly CHENOWETH. Walter is listed in the Nelson Co., tax list of 1792 with 1 white male over 21 and 200 acres of land. In 15 Nov 1797 there was and exchange of land between William May, Stephen BRISCOE, and Walter BRISCOE, where may became entitled to 400 acres on Murray Run branch of Cox's Creek, part of the Osburn Spriggs settlement, and on the same day William May and wife, Mary to Walter BRISCOE of Shelby Co., KY, for 5 shillings, 170 acres on Cox's Creek. On 10 Apr 1898, Walter BRISCOE to William May, warrantee of title to 1/2 of the 400 acre tract on Murray Run exchanged earlier. In 1850 he was farming in Lewis Co., MO, with Samuel M. BRISCOE 10, in the household. This is probably S. M. BRISCOE in the 1860 census age 20, a tenant farmer, with a wife Tristan? E(lizabeth). 19, and a child, A.C. B. BRISCOE, age 4/12 mo. In 1870 this Samuel, wife Elizabeth, with two children, Zada 10, and Florence 8, are living in Monticello, Lewis Co. This Samuel does not fit in any of the known families.
