Not surprisingly, Disney's biggest star, Mickey Mouse, was voted most popular character by a long shot. Since his debut in 1928's Steamboa Willie, Mickey has gone on to appear in a number of shorts, films and television shows.

In 2007, I sought out to discover just who were the most popular Disney characters featured in the Character Journal. Disney fans that visited this site, along with members of Disboards.com, voted for their Top 5 favorites. After the polls were closed, the following characters received the most votes.
#1- Mickey Mouse
Stitch (aka Experiment 626), is the highest-ranking character on the list to originate from a full-length animated feature. The mischievous alien is one of the stars of Lilo and Stitch and its subsequent sequels and TV show.

#2- Stitch
Captain Jack Sparrow, the breakout character of the blockbuster Pirates of the Caribbean films, is the newest character to make it into the Top 10 and is also the only character from a live-action film on the list.

Donald Duck got his start being a featured player in one of Walt Disney's Silly Symphony cartoons, but quickly rose to become one of the most popular characters in Disney history.

#4- Donald Duck
Belle is the highest-ranking female Disney character in the Top 10. The bookish heroine starred in Beauty and the Beast, the first animated film to be nominated for a Best Picture Oscar.

Minnie Mouse, Mickey's longtime sweetheart, comes in at #6 on the list. She has costarred with Mickey, Pluto, Figaro, and a number of other characters in many classic Disney shorts.

Cinderella, who was said to be Walt Disney's favorite Disney heroine, was the star of the 1950 animated film of the same name and is the namesake of the Magic Kingdom's Castle.

Friendly "hunny"-loving Pooh has appeared in a number of shorts, films and TV shows including the Oscar-winning Winnie the Pooh and the Blustery Day and the recent Playhouse Disney series My Friends Tigger and Pooh.

Even Pooh's gloomy pessimistic Eeyore would smile if he found out that fans had voted him into the Top 10 most popular characters featured in the Character Journal.

#9- Eeyore
Chip and Dale, the mischievous chipmunks who debuted in the 1943 short Private Pluto, tie for 10th place. The duo appeared in a number of shorts along with appearing in TV's Chip 'n Dale Rescue Rangers.
