Deadlands is owned by the Pinnacle Entertainment Group, Inc. It is game for Role-Players. Do not attempt anything that appears in the book for real. You'd just look stupid. ^_^

Deadlands: The Weird West is a role-playing game where you can play Wild West characters like cowboys, Indians, gamblers, saloon girls, etc. The only difference is that magic and horror are also involved. My best discription of it is any western you can think of meets Buffy, the Vampire Slayer.

History is a little different in the game. Think of it as happening in another universe. In the alternate universe, the Civil War has raged for far longer than it did for real. The year in the game --at least in the 1999 edition-- is 1877. The nation now has six parts to it: The United States of America; The Confederate States of America; The Coyote Confederation (Indian); The Republic of the Desert (Mormans); The City of Lost Angels; and The Sioux Nations (Indians). President Lincon still got shot, so Grant is leading the USA. Davis is still leader of the CSA.

Deadlands has an interesting way to generate the die code for Traits: Playing Cards.

CardTrait
2d4
3-8d6
9-Jackd8
Queen-Kingd10
Ace-Jokerd12

Next, look at the suit:

SuitLevel
Clubs1
Diamonds2
Hearts3
Spades4

Example: You draw the Queen of Hearts. A Queen is worth a d10 die code. The Hearts suit is level 3. So the whole code is 3d10.

Shuffle the deck (with the Jokers inside), and draw twelve (12) cards, and discard two, except a 2 or a Joker. You're stuck with those. Tip: Discard the two cards lowest in value, such as a three of clubs. Determine the die codes as above.

If you draw a Joker, it worth d12, but the character gets a "mysterious past". Draw again for suit and figure the die code normally. A Joker and a spades will give you a die code fo 4d12.

Distribute the die codes between your ten Traits: Deftness, Nimbleness, Quickness, Strength, Vigor, Congnition, Knowledge, Mien, Smarts, & Spirit. Use the character type discriptions to help with the distribution.

Trait Descriptions: What the die codes mean.
