Ferrin's family has a long history with the Clergy. Traditionally one Smithe per generation has been a monk, with any siblings becoming a paladin or cleric. Ferrin's older brother failed his tests to become a monk and became a paladin instead. Despite pressure from his family to become a monk, and despite his passing performances on all the tests, Ferrin chose to become a cleric.
His life was largely uneventual, although he was involved in supressing an uprising of rogue Death Mages trying to defect to the remnants of the Old Order. The mages were trying to seek passage to the Old Order lands by boat from Rineport, the Kingdom of Water. Ferrin, two other clerics, and a handfull of paladins stopped the mages en route.
A team of friendly mages were sent to bring the remaining Death Mages to the Grand Council for trial. The leader of the second mages was a Fire Sorceress named Lyrali Devolye, daughter of Councilman Tobias Delvoye. Ferrin volunteered to go with the group to the Grand Council, seeing as how someone needed to explain what happened from a firsthand account.
Ferrin inadvertantly found himself courting Lyrali, later requesting a transfer to Messaria to be closer to her. They were married about two years after the incident with the Death Mages. Since then he has lived on the Delvoye Estate, now being a noble by marriage and remarkable luck.

Magic
Like most clerics, Ferrin's magic is largely defensive in nature. He can create various shields and barriers as well as heal moderate wounds and sicknesses. He has some knowledge of Air (Wind) Magic, which is the source of his offensive spells.
Secondary powers of his include being able to keep his body temperature stable at all times, a common power of clerics in Thistlewood. He also requires little or no sleep for prolonged periods of time. This is only reason why he can easily wear his double chainmail armor -- magic.
His main offensive spell is the ability to summon "throwing stars" from the air. These are solid objects that appear out of nothing and are usually accurate . . . usually.
