Hana had a somewhat rough childhood. What with her mother being the local "entertainment" of lonely men. Not only that, but Hana didn't even know who her father was. There were three men it could have realistically been, but no one would ever really know for sure.
One day these three men were getting a little too intoxicated at the bar Hana's mother ran. Hana made the mistake of asking them who her real father was. The men got upset and lashed our at her mother, attacking her right there in the bar. In the fight a weapon broke on the countertop, leaving just the hilt. After the men had finished with Hana's mother they turned to Hana herself.
One of the men charged at her, and in self defense she grabbed the broken sword and attempt to guard herself with it. When she opened her eyes she found she had made a human shish-kabob. Somehow she had made a blade of ice and skewered the man. Feeling empowered and furious at the men who killed her mother, she made short work of the other two.
Hana found herself to have magical powers, particularly over ice. She attempted to train herself but found she needed professional training. Hana trained to the level of a mage, but got into trouble less than a year later.
She had tried to revive the family business and chose the wrong first customer. The female monk denied the night fiercely while Hana became an outcast. She was banned from further training, forever stuck at the level of a mage.
Hana then returned home and rejuvenated the old family bar. Unfortunately she was too powerful to be left alone by the Council for long....

Magic
Hana has the rather unique power as an "ice smith," able to forge weapons out of ice. She can take the handle of a weapon and add a magical blade of ice to it, choosing and sculpting the blade as she chooses.
She also has minor powers such as manipulating water and ice into 3D forms and forming snowballs from water vapor in the air.
