Tess grew up in Yeliss with her parents. When she was younger, she started to show signs of magical abilities, however people from Yeliss frowned upon that so her parents never allowed her to train. She did learn fairly well how to fight hand-to-hand combat however. On the side, without her parents knowledge, she did teach herself how to use her magic.
Her parents were both killed in Yeliss however she escaped thanks to her magical abilities and is now on her own. Joining the people who helped avenge her family and village just seemed like the right thing to do....
