Having long hair and growing
up in the S.F. east bay area, six of those years 1972 through 1978 in Berkeley, having two
places of residence one on Ashby between Adeline and Grove (which is now Martin L. King
Jr. Way) and the other on Addison Ave one block south of University Ave between Shattuck
Ave and Grove Way (right behind the Infamous Berkeley Barb headquarters) which made it easy to be a
regular at a place across the street from Keystone called Top Dog! I didn't feel I fit the
so called Hippie image.I had hair past my shoulders and scooted around on a custom H. D. chopper I picked up the tag Hippie Rider and at times would (not being so called hippie like) put major hurt on fools that after being asked not to, called me that more than once. Being narrow minded I used to think all Hippies were Wimps and Sissies. After living in Berkeley awhile, I found out there were two kinds of so called Hippies, the flowers In their hair, Peace sign wearing, free loving, one with the Earth Hippie, the other a drug dealing, weapon carrying, Chopper Riding, Bad Ass Gangster with little or no respect of anything. Both kinds not being wimps or sissies. I finally accepted the name and put it on my list of other aliases of my time. All of which (with the exception of Hippie Rider for this web site) I no longer use. As an act of self preservation I left the Bay Area in 1978. I moved to the Marysville/Yuba City area for a couple of years, then up to Lake Oroville area. |
