In the movie, the main character, the vampire Louis seems to seek sympathy for the 'life' he has to lead and to provide him with some sympathy, Elliot Goldenthal was brought in to write the score. With the right blend of choir voices and orchestral pieces mixed with some old style instruments such as harpischords, Goldenthal's score is both dark and gothic while still maintaining the sympathetic sounds of strings to bring a sense of sadness to Louis's plight. However, the strings used in the composition not only convey sounds of sympathy, but also the evil edge that comes with being a vampire. The opening track is a fine example of this. Probably one of the best on the CD, Libera Me is a combination of all of the previously mentioned techniques.

Many of the other tracks seem like period pieces, each representing a character in a particular scene. These period pieces seem fitting considering the time at which the movie is taking place. Of them all, Lestat's Tarantella is used not only for Lestat but for the evil and malicious vampires of the Theatre De Vampires as heard in Abduction & Absolution. While many of the tracks have their moments of excitement and tension, the action doesn't build as much as it does in Louis's Revenge. And, in what seems to be a rare case, it seems that Goldenthal 'borrowed' from James Horner's style of music in the opening moments of Escape to Paris. As for the Guns N' Roses song, it is heard over the end credits of the movie and unlike many songs tacked on at the end of movies, it is fitting. This is the type of music I had heard from Goldenthal and the type I expected him to use in Batman Forever, unfortunately, that wasn't the case. Oh well, at least this is a good one.
