2Traverse City Record Eagle, Northern Michigan's Newspaper, Obituary of Frances Penrose
/I>, September 8, 2001.
"LINCOLN PARK - Frances A. Penrose, 86, of Lincoln Park, passed away Monday, Aug. 27. Frances was the loving mother of Daniel J. Matey, Joseph (Dorothy) Mateja, and Ernest (Michele) Penrose III; dear sister of Tony Zaremba, Agnes Kaminsk, and Bernice Varga; dearest grandmother of nine; and great-grandmother of four. The funeral was held Aug. 30 at Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Church with Interment at Our Lady of Hope Cemetery in Lincoln Park. Arrangements were entrusted to the Czopek Funeral Home. "What greater treasure or more precious gift can this life offer than a mother's love. "Dearest mother you welcomed me into this world as I took my first breath. I kissed you goodbye as you breathed your last. Thank you Lord for the privilege. "I shall always feel, dear mother, your kiss of peace upon my cheek, placed there by weakened and trembling lips. The streets of heaven are lined now with angels to welcome your arrival and you are now my angel in heaven watching over me. "I will forever remember your love and the loving ways in which you expressed it; teaching me to dance, the great apple pies, your gentle admonitions when, as a child, I had done something inappropriate, how no deed was too humble for your praise and no gift too trivial to please. I shall never forget your lessons in integrity, mom, you were the most honest person I've ever known. "You always tried your very best and made the most of the gifts God gave you. "You were a true friend to many, sincere and steadfast to each and every one of your friends. "In this complicated and confusing world, you retained a simplicity and joy of life. "Your spirit, heart, and will served you long after your body was consumed by our illness. I shall carry with me your last smile, so unafraid, a smile that said, 'Don't worry my son, my faith is strong and soon I will see the God I've prayed to all these years.' "Goodbye mom, I will always love you and will always miss you.".".

MARY M. MATEY, 57, died on Thursday, Jan. 4, 2001, at her home. Arrangements will be announced by Reynolds-Jonkhoff Funeral Home.

January 7, 2001

TRAVERSE CITY - Mary M. Matey, 57, died peacefully on Thursday at her home. She was born on May 28, 1943 in Highland Park, the daughter of John and Sophia (Czajkowski) Bulik. In Detroit on October 28, 1966, she married Daniel M. Matey. Mary owned and operated Mary's Family Hair Care and was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Mapleton. Mary loved cooking and baking, knitting, flowers and gardening. "Your courageous seven-year struggle with cancer is now ended, my darling. You fought with dignity, grace and an incomparable will. This awful, uncompromising disease ultimately defeated your body, but never your spirit. You have been an inspiration to so many with a smile and your humor, which never waned. And through it all you never once complained, but showed concern and caring for others, even in your darkest moments. When the day of my own affliction arrives, may I face it with the same courage and faith in God that you have shown, my darling. During our life together, as my wife, you have given to me love, trust, unwavering support and forgiveness to my failings in unconditional abundance. You have taught me so much. The love we shared was a precious gift from God and we cherished it. The quality of your being always has brought out the best that is in us all. It was easy to be good in your company. You possessed a joy and a love of life which you imparted to our sons. You loved your role as mother and gave all of yourself to it, which is the way you did everything you tried. You were a talented hairdresser and enjoyed owning your own business, which afforded you many wonderful friendships. You were adept at knitting and crafted beautiful hooked rugs. You loved the simple things of this life, fishing with a bobber, watching hummingbirds, playing with a kitten and of course, reading a good book such as "A Place in the Woods", one of your favorites. I have said my goodbyes to you, my darling. I will miss dearly your bright smile and long for the breath of spring that seemed to accompany you always. I will long for the look of love and admiration meant only for me. From the very first moment we met 35 years ago, we felt so complete together, even short goodbyes seemed so very long. I say goodbye now, not with sadness, but with joy, knowing you rest in heaven cradled in God's loving arms forever. Someday I shall see your lovely smile again and hear your sweet voice. I know you wait for me, dear woman. And finally, you have always felt our cup was overflowing, even in the midst of difficult trial, and always believed that even the smallest act of kindness is holy if done with love. You lived your life just that way. So as we go about our lives today, may we all look with kindness and caring on another, and show our love through even the simplest act. The rewards are great." Mary is survived by her husband and best friend, Daniel M. Matey; two sons, Daniel M. Matey, Jr. and Michael D. Matey, both of Traverse City; Her sisters, Diane (Jim) Zielinski and Jean (Stanley) Stanonis, all of Troy; and many nieces and nephews.
