Notable Facts:

  • Renamed himself to Jushin Thunder Liger after winning the IWGP Jr. Heavyweight Title in January 1990.
  • His feud with Naoki Sano is legendary and infamous, which set a new standard for junior heavyweight wrestling.
  • During the 1990's, Liger had a ton of memorable and excellent matches, as well as many title runs.
  • The creator of the famous J*Crown Tournament, where the winner won a total of eight unified junior titles.
  • Has the ability to change his style and work the style he needs, for example work around a leg injury to work a more grounded style.
  • In 1996, Liger defeated a brain tumor.
  • Started to compete in the heavyweight division in 2000, wearing black instead of his usual red and white, he struggled but gained big victories the year after, and challenged for IWGP Tag Team Titles with 2001 comeback man, Keiji Muto on 10/19/01.
  • Competed in the 2000 and 2001 G-1 Climaxes, having several great matches in the 2001 tournament.
  • Directed his full attention back to the junior heavyweight division in late 2001, although he competed in BOTH weight class G-1 Tag Leagues, winning the junior one w/ fellow veteran El Samurai, and losing the heavyweight one teaming with Osamu Nishimura.
  • On 12/15/2002 after his match w/ Tiger Mask 4 as his partner, he got fed up because of countless mistakes and suspicions of stealing his spotlight from him. Liger called to the veteran juniors to join him and crush the next generation, who are trying to topple them, they joined his cause, seperating the juniors into two sides.
  • Turned heel on 7/4/2004 when he Shotei'ed his ex-partner Koji Kanemoto, and sided with Jado/Gedo/Takemura calling themselves Counter Terrorism Unit. He wears the infamous black attire, becoming "Black" Liger, this time with gold lines. CTU wreaks havoc and provokation in all of their matches.
  • Liger is always in association with junior heavyweight, crusierweight, and lightweight wrestling because of his long list of accomplishments and happenings.
  • Because of his great ideas and organization of the awesome New Japan junior division, Liger has had and has working relationships with junior and aerial dominated promotions like CMLL, Michinoku Pro, Osaka Pro, Pro-Wrestling KAGEKI, and Kaientai Dojo over the years.
  • Liger today, is in great form, shape, and position, still putting out great performances where ever he goes, and is one of the most influential wrestlers ever. Liger is definitely the greatest junior heavyweight of all-time.
