Apple Dumplings
Ingredients:

1/1/4 cups sugar
1/2 teapsoon ground cinnamon
1/2 teapsoon ground nutmet
2 tablespons mararine
2 1/4 cups all-purpose flour
2/3 cup shortening
6 small apples

To Make syrup:
Mix 1 cup of the sugar, 1/4 teaspoon cinnamon,
1/4 teaspoon nutmeg, and 1 3/4 cups water. 
Bring to boiling; reduce heat.  Simmer 5 mintues.  Remove from heat; stir in margarine.

To Make the Pastry:
Mix flour and 1/ 4 teaspoon salt.  Cut in shortening until coarse crumbs form.
(This can be done in a food processor, by pulsing several times.)

Once coarse crumbs form, remove from food processor, if using one.  Add 6-8 tablspoons cold water, a little at a time, mixing with a fork until moistened.

Form the dough into a ball.  Roll into an 18 x 12 - inch rectangle.  Cut into six  6-inch squares.

Directions:
Wash and dry the apples.  Peel and core apples.  Place one fruit on each pastry square.  Combine remaining sugar, cinnamon, and nutmeg.  Sprinkle over fruit.

Moisten edges of pastry; fold corners to center atop fruit.  Pich to seal.  Place in an 11 x7 x 1 1/2 inch baking pan.  Pur syrup over.  Bake in a 375 F. degrees oven about 45 mintues or till fruit is tender and pastry is brown.  Serve with ice cream, if desired.
