Indian Fry Bread
Ingredients:

5 cups all-purpose flour

2 tablespoons baking powder

1 1/4 teaspoon salt

1 1/2 tablespoons melted butter

2 cups milk

Oil for frying (vegetable or canola is good)

Directions:

Measure 4 cups of flour, add baking powder and salt.  Mix together and set aside.  Melt butter and add it to the milk. Add milk and butter mixture to the flour ingredients, a little at a time.  Beat until dough becomes stiff.  Sprinkle the remaining flour on a pastry board, or other flat surface and knead lightly until all of the flour is worked in.  Roll the dough into 3 circles about 1/8 inch thick and 10 inches in diameter, or if you like you can make smaller circles about 1/8 thick.  In a heavy skillet pour about 1 inch of oil and heat until hot.  Fry each piece of bread until crisp and light brown on both sides.  Serve hot.

This bread is delicious served warm with butter and jam.
