Haywire (copyright © 1999 Marc Allen)

I drove into the city today
90 degrees and no A/C
window down, dusty town, loosin' ground, smokin'
drove from center down to 106
turtle traffic, lights throwin' tricks
read the signs, read the time, don't know where I'm goin'
like a cat on a thin wire, I'm on the edge of haywire
Mornin' comes sooner every day
I got no time to sleep or play
reapetitive, stagnate, monotany can't be healthy
I feel the pressure from every side
I can't run and I can't hide
comin' up, pushin' down, pushin' me all around
like a breeze to a brush fire, I'm on the edge of haywire
You've got to climb the rope to get your feet on the ground
learn from the past but never turn yourself around
save up your money but pay the bills
spice up your songs, don't play to many fills
keep your head straight, resist desire
stress will fuel the fire, haywire
