Mississippi Mud (copyright © 1999 Marc Allen)

Sittin' on the banks of bear river
watchin' the water roll on
mississippi mud in one hand
you could say I'm more or less gone
I got a pretty little thing on my mind
tryin' to leave her behind today
I ain't got time to be a good man
I didn't like her anyway
I guess the catfish ain't that hungry
It's not really what I came here for
I just needed to ease my mind up
and drink me a few or more
well I wish I had a boat with a ten horse
I wish I didn't have mud on my boots
I wonder if she's gonna give my hat back
I know for her it's a little loose
You can call me mean
I'm not sympathetic
I little layed back and unapologetic
I don't know why but I don't feel that bad about it
Well she cussed in front of mama
but it didn't really matter
it's not the whole picture but it surely is a factor
she took in my truck with all my clothes
now she's got all my stuff, I should've never let her go
The weather's gettin' a little chilly
there'll be snow on the ground 'for long
upset cause I ripped my blue jeans
it don't matter now who was wrong
well it's startin' to get pretty dark now
the fishing line's gettin' hard to see
the sad thing is I filled up the truck
right before she left me
(chorus)
Why were my clothes in the back and the keys on the counter
lord, I'll never know
she took off with my guitar, I had to write this on piano
she's got most my stuff except my fishin' pole
