A new set of academical dress was introduced in 1995, the design of Carmen Shrimpton, Richard Moore, and Rebedda Vorrath, third year Diploma in Fashion and Design students. The caps were designed by milliner/lecturer Margo Barton, and are inspired by Cargill's bonnet worn in 19th century Dunedin. The shape is essentially that of the pileus quadatus, being based on the John Knox cap.
