Dune Buggy

After the torsion was removed from the parts car it must be capped where it was cut. So we got Jimmy to cut the odd shaped piece of steel for us and i welded it up after much grinding.

There was an aweful lot of welding to be done on this one little part to fill the place where it was cut.

This what happens when you weld and you are wearing frayed jeans. I thought my leg was getting kinda hot but I didn't realize what was going on til Karen told me my leg was on fire, but i was not injured. I just patted the fire out with my glove.

After I was done capping the torsion, Michael ground it smooth to make it look good. He probably ground on it for 30 minutes, but he made it look good.

And here is the torsion after we were all done capping it. It is now ready to be installed on the frame.

I thought I had had enough dune buggy for one day, but after a late night trip to Loco's we decided to come back and work on it more. Jordan, Michael and I installed the torsion on the frame while Karen cleaned the transmission some more. After we got the torsion installed Jeremy and i finished the tack welds on the rest of the bottom frame. He welded the top and we turned it over and I welded the bottom.

And here is the completed lower frame. There is still lots to be done though.

And here we are after a hard days work on the dune buggy. And we don't want to forget Karen. She helped a lot today as well, but it was about 2:30 Sunday morning in this picture so she couldn't be here. These are gonna be some good memories.

We got the shop cleaned out and moved her in there and bolted the front end on and started building

Here's part of the top frame done.

Here's the whole frame tacked together

After we went back over and finished all the welds I decided to take a test drive. HEH!

I accidentally droped a big ole piece of steel on Kern's toe while she was wearing sandles. It broke it. I'm sorry Karen. I love you.

Here is my cattle catcher/tree pusher/bulldozer/bumper. That's the big piece of steel that I dropped on Kern's poor toe.

This is Michael and our beer keg/gas tank.

Me with the gas tank.
