Son Goku is ONLY the most important character of Dragon Ball, Dragon 
Ball Z, and Dragon Ball Grand Tour. Akira Toriyama was influenced by 
a Chinese legend when he created Goku. The legend is "Journey to the 
West". It is about a monkey boy with a tail and an extending staff that 
rides around on a cloud. Goku is a saiya-jin, a race that have tails and 
can transform into Ozaru, ape-like creatures. He has a staff that can 
extend to any length (Nyobi). He comands the cloud taxi-thing Kintoun 
(aka nimbus cloud). After that, though, the similarities between the two 
pretty much end. Goku, as you can imagine of a main character, is the 
most powerful being in, well..., the universe. The only reason Vegeta is 
unable to attain Goku's level is because of their seperate reasons for 
fighting. Goku fights for his loved ones and for the love of the battle. 
Vegeta, on the other hand, well...., er........, he likes to kill....... 
For his personality, Goku is mostly a cheese ball. He acts goofy, is a 
complete dunce, and is ALWAYS eating. But, things always work out 
OK when he's around, miraculously. When he's in a battle, though, he is 
extremely serious. He enjoys the fight while keeping a clear mind. Goku 
marries Chi Chi in Dragon Ball when they're both 19 years old. A year 
later, the renowned Gohan is born. Goku's second son is born 10 years 
later. His name is Goten and he is a perfect minature of Goku.
