Thirty-eight is tumbling down
river,
Half in the water, half among the stars:
Intent on rituals and astral signs,
Restoring ancient secrets and designs,
Taking messages from work and Mars.
Years yet have many treasures to deliver.
Each passion sets the Universe aquiver.
In every thought are wings or iron bars.
Ghosts of past selves camp across gray lines,
Hoping with a quick, reluctant shiver
That time will rid them of long-vanished scars. |
