Thirty-nine is nearing the plateau,
Having climbed the cliffs that hide the peak.
In labor and in fortune he's done well,
Rich in traits that love and trust compel,
Though wary of the pain that love might wreak.
Years of yearning yield what he must know.
Nor will he leave the moment he would
seek,
In which the grace of life itself might tell
No less a truth that would his heart impel
Equally to love both joy and woe. |
