A Royal Commission of Inquiry into Anwar's beating in prison identified the ex-Chief of Police Tan Sri Rahim Noor as the assailant which was hardly news to anybody. The Commission established that his injuries were serious enough to be life threatening and Anwar was denied medical treatment for 3 days. Instead of being charged with attempted murder, Rahim was charged with a minor crime of causing hurt, released without surety and his trial postphoned until March 2000.
