Karen is a good young local girl of conservative country upbringing and values. She is a straightfoward person with simple traditional needs. She is looking forward to the joys of getting married, having children and spending the next 70 years of her life in Pearl Bay. And she has fitted Angus into this long-term plan.

When Kate went to university, majoring in film and theatre, she never thought she would actually end up acting. After she graduated with her BA, from Curtin University, Western Australia, her options were to produce a film independently or to act. She found her first acting job and the acting work snowballed. When Kate came to Melbourne on a working holiday she found an agent and since then has had regular acting work. Her television credits include The Man From Snowy River, State Coroner, and Blue Heelers.

Her character in SeaChange, 24-year-old Constable Karen Miller, is the oldest role the 26-year-old has played! Being very youthful looking and petite, Kate has often been required to play the role of a younger person and recently was required to play the part of a 13-year-old.

In one of her most recent television appearances Kate played the role of a young woman, who married a policeman but on the wrong side of the law. "It was interesting to be on the other side," she says. After completing SeaChange Series 1 Kate toured in a production of Away for the MTC.

Of her character Karen, in Seachange, Kate says, "I know I couldn't be a policewoman, nor do I have a yearning desire to marry. There are similarities though - I like things to be organised, ordered and in the realm of my control. In my spare time I enjoy simple pleasures, such as horse riding, reading, going to the movies and cooking - just like Karen."
