FHP purchased 200 of these new Chevrolet Camaro Patrol Cars. These vehicles were installed with police equiptment, radio systems and new low profile Whelen light bars. Each Trooper who was issued this patrol car had to complete a 5 hour class on the operation of handling this high performance patrol vehicle. The Chevrolet Camaro is powered by a 5.7L V8 (Corvette Engine). According to tests performed by the Michigan State Police, the Chevrolet Camaro achieved a top speed of 159mph. The Camaro is also able to achieve a time of 13.93 seconds from a 0-100mph take-off, while a Ford Crown Victoria Police Car takes 24.61 seconds. |
