Private line to Matt Frenette.....PART 2

Loverboy Fan Club News (Spring 1983)
I remember the first album. I did ten basic tracks in 4 1/2 days. I remember recording three keepers in one day that were 'keepers': DOA, Teenage Overdose and Lady of the '80's. That was a rip, just a killer! It was like two in the morning. We were so close to getting this track sounding right, but I was just fried, 'cuz I'd been working all day. You don't just go in once and record it and that's it. You must play each song ten or twelve times, depending on the sounds and feel getting everybody locked in. Sometimes the first time through is the one you keep. A lot of the time the bass guitar will stay along with the drums to make the basic tracks. You can always erase everyone else after that, but you can't erase the drums and re-do them. It's really exciting , and I like that. Recording will continue for three weeks, but I don't have any part physically in it, but I like to come down and listen to the different tracks that are being recorded. We spent a little bit more time with the ballad which is different from the other records, and it was quite exciting recording my first ballad. Since I have a little time of my own, I'm going to go and find some sun. Mexico is quite cheap now. I found a little paradise just south of Puerta Vallerta last year. Very quiet, no phones, no roads. You can only get there only by boat. It's like the way Mexico used to be. I really like Mexico.

I'm ready to go back on the road. I really like playing for the kids. Performances in different towns every night are exhilerating. It rejuvenates my batteries. The excitement and pace of the tour matches my nature. I guess that has to do with my drumming too. I've set a precedent for myself and the band. It's that foundation thing again.

We're going to some other countries soon, doing some pop festivals, and I'm really looking forward to that. We'll be getting back to North America for the summer months and expect to be on the road close to a year, working this new album."

The future looks awesome for this dynamic LOVERBOY drummer, who is giving his ALL to this band with tremendous style and surging energy.

Matthew Frenette is one-of-a-kind, truly No. 1!
