DRILLS/PROGRESSIONS

BALL HANDLING

1) Squeeze the ball-- squeeze with finger tips from one hand to another
2)
Tapping the ball-- tap the ball between hands at arms length & then vary height of ball action
3)
Circle ball around body--  waist, knees, neck and ankles
4)
Circle ball around legs--  one leg both ways, both legs, separated, figure eights.
5)
Pretzel bounce-- hold the ball between the legs knee height, one hand behind, other in front, exchange hands as ball drops and bounces on the floor.
5)
Pretzel-- same as above but without the ball bouncing on the floor.
6)
See-Saw-- stand, legs apart, hold ball behind legs at knee height, bounce ball & catch in front, bounce & catch behind.
7)
Figure Eight Passing-- pass the ball around split legs- start low then reverse.
8)
Ricochet-- pass the ball back and forth through legs on a bounce - keep the legs straight.


DRIBBLING

1) Dribble around one leg-- using a hand on each side of the body dribble around a leg
2)
Figure eight dribble-- same as above but dribble in a figure 8 pattern
3)
Around the world-- feet together, legs slightly bent, dribble around legs using both hands.
4)
Dribble around pylons-- can be used in straight pylon pathway, or zig zag pattern.  Remembering to use both left and right hands when dribbling and turning corners.
5)
One vs One--  attempt to knock away opponent's ball while protecting your own.  Can use a grid area as boundary.
6)
Free for all-- an entire team or class in confined area, trying to knock away other ball while  protecting their own.
7)
Dribbling Relay--  use of pylons in designated area or formation (straight, zig zag) with teams.

PASSING

1)
Partner passing--  passing directly to a partner while gradually increasing the distance.  Using all passes.
2)
Rapid Fire-- one partner passes to others in the group who are lined up side by side.  The goal is to make quick and crisp passes.
3)
Keep Away/ Monkey in Middle--  one player in the middle, while the other group members pass to eachother without it being stolen or touched.
4)
Box Drill-- groups of a least 5, form a square or box formation. Player with ball starts at a corner of the box and make a pass to another corner and follows his/her pass to a new designated spot.  This is repeated by all players.


SHOOTING

1)
Shoot ball in the air-  begin by shooting the ball straight up into the air.
2)
Wall Shooting-- Locate a mark or spot on the wall to be your target and practice shooting with the purpose of hitting that target.
3)
Area shooting drill-- place yourself within 1-3 feet from the basket.  1 minute to get the most baskets.
4)
Paired shooting drill--  Partner A shoots from the key and follows the shot, gets the rebound & passes to partner B who repeats the sequence.
5)
Bump--  assign a group of students to stay in line behind the foul line.  2 balls used in the game.  Attempt to score a basket, but if the player behind you gets it in before you, you are out of the game.  This is repeated until one player remains.
