SPACE | TRANSPORT: | X-Prize : | Cosmopolis XXI |
I am a great admirer of soviet technology.Anything they did, they did it big. They have built the biggest of transports(Cossack),largest submarines(Typhoon),the best fighters (Su-37, Mig-29) the most powerful rockets(Energiya),the biggest icebreaker(Lenin)...the list goes on.
However, today this is no longer true. The failing Russian economy has crippled their progress. New and innovative projects lie gathering dust due to lack of funds. This has enabled USA to take a lead in key areas like new generation fighters(F-22 Raptor, Commanche e.t.c.). In this mess it is indeed encouraging to see private parties coming up to continue their tradition.
There is nothing spectacular about Comopolis21 though. It is fully in tune with the groung realities of a launch to space. It will be a 3 seater cylindrical tube that will launched at a height of 20 km from a M-55 aircraft. It will land either with parachutes/parasails or using small wings.
