8 Legged Freaks

Kari Wuhrer as Sheriff Sam Parker

Description:

Paying homage to the tradition of the 50's monster movies, "Eight Legged Freaks" stars David Arquette, Kari Wuhrer and Doug E. Doug. Originally titled "Arac Attack", it re-explores the possibilities of what would happen if toxic waste really did affect the genetic code of spiders. Like the classic "Tarantula", the movie pits the citizens of a rural town against the terror of giant arachnids. The difference here is that the there are a LOT of spiders and the special effects are outstanding and down right creepy. These spiders aren't content with sneeking around in the dark and waiting for the screaming people to fall down so that they can catch up. They jump, they pounce and they grab their prey right out of the air.

Kari Samantha Whrer used to sneak into Manhattan at night and sing with bands as a 14-year-old. Kari had a punk rock band with a bunch of guys much older than herself called Freudian Slip. Growing up with two older siblings and a younger brother, Kari always wanted attention. Whrer is ethnically German with a dash of Cherokee. Her parents were Karin, a payroll accountant, and Andrew, a police officer turned car salesman. In 1983, Wuhrer persuaded her mother to take her to the Ford Talent Agency in Manhattan. She was signed on the spot, and commercials (for Clairol, among others) and modeling work followed. In 1988, she was hired as a VeeJay (with Adam Sandler) for MTV's TV-trivia game show "Remote Control". In between her acting roles, Kari attended NYU's Drama Department and studied with the famed actress/teacher Uta Hagen and at the Royal Academy of Dramatic Arts in London. She met her husband Salin, a rock musician, in 1991 at a mutual friend's party. Salin records what Wuhrer calls dragster punk music with his band, Ascot, in a studio in their two-bedroom Hollywood Hills home.
