Peggy Cummins as Joanna
Dr. John Holden ventures to London to attend a paranormal psychology symposium with the intention to expose devil cult leader, Julian Karswell. Holden is a skeptic and does not believe in Karswell's power. Nonetheless, he accepts an invitation to stay at Karswell's estate, along with Joanna Harrington, niece of Holden's confidant who was electrocuted in a bizarre automobile accident. Karswell secretly slips a parchment into Holden's papers that might possibly be a death curse. Recurring strange events finally strike fear into Holden, who believes that his only hope is to pass the parchment back to Karswell to break the demonic curse.

Pert, pretty British actress celebrated by cultists for her eye-opening portrayal of the femme fatale in the film noir classic Gun Crazy (1949), also as the female lead in the literate horror film Curse of the Demon (1958). An accomplished stage performer while still in her teens, Cummins debuted on screen in 1940's Dr. Dowd and made several other films in England before coming to Hollywood-amid great fanfare-to star in Forever Amber Production was suspended after one month, however, when it was decided the script needed work-and Cummins wasn't worldly enough for the leading role; she was replaced by Linda Darnell. Subsequent films, on both sides of the Atlantic, include The Late George Apley (1947), Escape (1948), If This Be Sin (1949), Always a Bride (1953), The Love Lottery (1954), Carry on Admiral (1957), Dentist in the Chair (1960), and In the Doghouse (1961).
