Biography from Leonard Maltin's Movie Encyclopedia: She fell victim to devil worshippers who coveted her unborn child in Rosemary's Baby (1968), and Mia Farrow is still remembered for her performance in that screen chiller. The daughter of actress Maureen O'Sullivan and director John Farrow, this tiny, fragile, doelike actress made her screen bow in John Paul Jones (1959, directed by her father), spent two years playing Alison MacKenzie on the TV series "Peyton Place" (1964-66), and cultivated a wild-child image before achieving stardom as the besieged young mother in Baby Lead roles throughout the 1970s, in such films as The Great Gatsby (1974) and A Wedding (1978), followed, but Farrow hit her creative stride as the star of more than 10 movies-including Zelig (1983), Hannah and Her Sisters (1986), and Alice (1990)-directed by former boyfriend Woody Allen, with whom she has a son. Fashioning roles with her in mind, Allen brought out qualities in Farrow moviegoers had never seen before, from the gum-chewing exgangster's moll in Broadway Danny Rose (1984) to the lovesick Hollywood movie fan in The Purple Rose of Cairo (1985) to the cigarette-girl-turned-gossip queen in Radio Days (1987) to a despairing psychiatric patient in Another Woman (1988). It is by any measure a remarkable gallery of performances. In 1992 she and Allen made headlines for months in a vituperative splitup which had unintended repercussions when audiences watched them as a disintegrating couple on-screen in the concurrently released Husbands and Wives (1992). She was replaced by Diane Keaton in Woody's next film, Manhattan Murder Mystery (1993). Previous marriages to show-business personalities Frank Sinatra and composer/conductor Andr Previn ended in divorce. Her sister Tisa, also an actress, has starred in Fingers (1978), The Grim Reaper (1981), and many European-made movies of varying quality.
