Salmoneus prides himself on the discovery of new marketing ploys: toga sales, hero biographies, bubbly water, lost treasure recovery-essentially, anything that can earn him a quick dinar.

He travels with Hercules or Xena whenever their paths happen to cross, but spends the majority of his time on his own, devising new and profitable merchandising schemes.

Hercules first encountered Salmoneus on his way to free a town of terrible Cyclops wreaking destruction. Hercules was trying to evade the Fifty Daughters of King Thespius, all wanting to bear his children. The Daughters of Thespius settle on Salmoneus for all their paternal needs.
