It's hard to browse Anglophone internet without running into terms like racism, critical theory, gender, etc.
I'm starting to find this annoying and alienating.
Why? Is that because my culture or my personal life was exceptionally lucky?
NO.
My country's history is full of wars, occupations by foreign powers, being a target of genocides, and disappearing from the world map. Also semi-recently it had some communism which those who lived through don't remember fondly. Only recently it could "be itself". Read some history if you want.
Hardly a lucky place, I'd say.
When it comes to my own life, the biggest problems have been:
Hardly a fulfilling life. Okay, maybe till early elementary school it was somewhat.
What I mean is, none of the above involve the typical "political" talking points. Your issues are mostly foreign to me, so why should I care about them any more than you care about mine? I'm not American, and non-American people and points of view also exist, you know?
While I am aware of e.g. your history of slavery, don't expect me to be as passionate as you, because here we had different problems, hence different sensibilities.
My culture's biggest fears are existential ones, of war, of being occupied by foreign powers, of having their cultural identity erased, etc. Not that someone doesn't use a neopronoun.
Poles generally prefer to be among other Poles.
In europe, instead of (bad words warning) "nigger", there's "gypsy".
An egregious case of this "imported drama" was when I saw two non-american people (you know who you are) passionately arguing about which US president they're "pro-". But why would that matter when none of you can even legally vote there?
While on a personal scale, my life was unpleasant in its own way.
What annoys me isn't the content of what you say (which I know is mostly true), but this strange nitpicky fanatical attitude behind it (which seems to have only appeared in late 2010s), as if this was somehow the Only True Measure of Morality™. I won't point fingers, if you know enough English to read this, you've probably seen it somewhere. I wouldn't write this article if this wasn't shoved down my throat so much.
But if morality is indeed important enough to warrant such fanaticism, then... what about MY matters?
...
Perhaps I'm arguing with Web Brigades, but whatever the case, it can't hurt to clarify some things.
Or you could ask, why even bother with Anglophone places?
That's because:
So what's the point of this article? To explain why I have an attitude that westerners (mostly Americans) may find dismissive. Because there are other things I care about more. Both as a person and as a member of a culture.
Another reason I wrote this article is: whenever looking at surface-level internet, it seems as if there was noone, not even a single person that shares my point of view. So now there's at least this one article.
