In 1997 Jerry got his first Winston Cup start at Michigan Speedway in the #1 R&L Carriers Pontiac. It was an ok looking car to make a Winston Cup debut in. It's primary color was yellow with some dark green. On the hood was the dark green R+L Carriers logo. On the sides was a dark green stripe and a white number 1, and above the rear tire was another blue and red logo. You can see pictures of this
car, the only on the net, at the R+L Carriers #1 Picture Page.
Jerry only raced this car 5 races in 1997, and did an ok job
for his first time. His best start was 9th at New Hampshire
International Speedway, but he finished 39th, because of a
blown engine. His best finish was 30th at Daytona after starting 41st, he was involved in a accident during that race too. Those 5 races is what started his Winston Cup carrer, and what gave him his ride in the #13 First Plus Ford. And what will give him an awsome year with Hendrick Motorsports in the Michael Holigan #25 in 2000.
