ESPRESSO
COFFEE - AFF ESPRESSO
The Ultimate coffee drink is simple, yet for those like me that are
always in pursuit of the perfect cup of coffee, can become a major task to prepare just
right, let alone every time. There are several components that are equally important in
achieving this:
The bean, only the Arabica variety should be used, not the Robusta, and must be relatively
freshly roasted, and kept in an airtight container.
The water, the other major ingredient in your drink, should be of the best quality and
taste. Filtered water is probably the best choice.
The grind, always done just prior
to the brewing, should be uniform, and should be fine enough for the type of coffee
maker we are about to use. Too coarse, and the water will run through; too fine, and the
drink will be too strong. Selecting the right grinder is of utmost importance, as it will
ensure a great cup of coffee, every time. You should spend on the grinder at least 50% of
what you pay for the coffee maker.
The espresso maker, or macchina de caffe, can be of one of several different types. They
all can provide a rewarding drink, however, if you want to even approximate that served at
an italian caffe, your machine should be of the pump type, delivering the water at near
194 F (90 C), and at 9 atmospheres of pressure. A pressure type will heat up the water
above boiling temperature (due to the increased pressure), and may "burn the grind. A
"boiler" will just do exactly that. The so called mocha pot will produce a very
rewarding but different type of espresso, still quite enjoyable, and much cheaper. These
are some of the better machines on the market today:

The process of brewing the espresso will require your dedicated attention to ensure the
best cup. Start with a preheated cup, a so called demi-tasse cup, not a big jug, then pack
the ground coffee in the filter just enough, secure in place and Voil!, instant
gratification. What follows is a selected list of great links to Java places that I have
found. Follow them and there own links, and you will learn more about espresso than you
ever imagined. Enjoy your cup!

No parece
bien simple?
