Stuttgart, Germany (Total Eclipse)

On the 10th of August 1999, I went with Tom to Stuttgart to see the first and only Total Eclipse (totale Sonnenfinsternis) in Germany this century.

On the way there, we got a glimpse of the famous Lorelei. So glad I didn't make a special trip just to see a rock, like loads of other people do.

We arrived in Stuttgart and proceeded to our "hotel" which was actually little more than a youth hostel.. What do you expect for DM40 per person? A TV maybe... but anyway, we were pleased that we got the last available room there (everywhere else had been booked out for weeks).

We were really pleased that the weather was so good when we got to Stuttgart. So pleased in fact that I took this photo of the soon-to-be-covered-up-by-the-moon sun.

Here's a photo of Tom overlooking Stuttgart.

We saw a TV Tower in the distance, so we decided to go have a look. We walked for AGES to get there, and, needless to say, we were pleased when we got there.

The whole way there, the sky got cloudier and cloudier. We were still hopeful though.

The tower itself did not look that impressive until you stood right next to it and looked up...

... or went up the tower and looked down.

Here's a(nother) picture of Tom overlooking Stuttgart.

Go forward to Day Two (the actual day of the eclipse)
